Looking for a bump that would make the guard a bit better.

Split fire = A guard infantry squad can fire independently from it's attached heavy weapon. All shots from the squad must be declared before rolling to hit, "so no trying to pop the dread with the plasma gun after the lascannon missed"

What about a bump for tracked vehicals while we are at it? Currently they are very out classed by skimmers.

Either give the russ back the lumbering rule,

or

Remove the vehical weapon restrictions of an ord weapon, so that it can fire just like any other heavy weapon.

Any thoughts? How overpowered unbalanced would this be?

I like the splitting fire for heavy weapons. It never really did make sense to me why they worked that way. Now Ork mobz shouldn't be allowed to do something like this, but why would 20 Guardsman stop shooting at Orkz just cause the guy next to them is trying to pop a Russ with his Laz. Simply raising weapons by 25% in points or something similar would counter this advantage if it was perceive to be too big.
Ordnance weapons should stay only Ordnance and no other weapons. I don't think some people really comprehend the size of the shot and explosion as it's not really indicative in the form of a 5 inch template.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

In the rules we play any squad can do it. Pass an Ld test, and bingo, you can fire at two targets. You must pick what targets before rolling though, and choose which is the primary and the secondary in case you fail (ie. you fail, so may only fire at the primary).

Quite good. Makes things a bit more realistic.

^ kinda screws the poor bloke who spent all those points on long fangs doesent it?

although the split fire does make sense, big time leadership tests are definately needed. a squad of gaurdsmen that have a carnifex or wraithlord about to charge them next turn are going to shoot at it, lasgun or not. a character or item allowing varying concentration or splitting of fire might not be too far out. but once again i feel that for that ability a leadership check or two and some points are due.

Split fire using Ld roll, Hmmm. Good Idea, it sounds like something else I hear.....

DR:70S+G++M+B++IPw40k86D+++A++/eWD024R++T(D)DM+Gwar! - Hey, don't get pissy at me because GW can't write. A lot of things in the rules don't "make sense". It doesn't matter if the do or don't. Play by the rules or don't play at all. FAQ's are not official, they are GW in house House Rules.
