Let me just say right off the bat, I have always been a fan of the
IG, and think they get shafted in tournament settings.
The mech force is good, with the adjustments flagg suggested, with one question that may not have occured to you yet ( if you havent fielded it):
Where are you going to deploy twelve tanks?
Seriously, this is my mech list:
HQ:
Junior Officer, 2x Laspistol
CCW, 1x Lascannon
Chimera (
HB, XArmor)
Fire Support
3x Heavy Bolter
Chimera (
HB, XArmor)
Platoon
HQ Junior Officer, 2xLasgun, 1x Lacannon
Chimera (
HB,Xarmor)
Squad 1:
Vet Sgt w/Meltabomb, 1x
GL, 1x Missile (Steel Legion boxed set)
Chimera (
HB, XArmor)
Squad 2:
Vet Sgt w/Meltabomb, 1x
GL, 1x Missile (Steel Legion boxed set)
Chimera (
HB, XArmor)
Armored Fist:
Vet Sgt w/Meltabomb, 1x Plasma, 1x Missile
Chimera (Hvy Flamer, XArmor)
Hellhound (Smoke Launcher, XArmor, Spotlight)
Hellhound (Smoke Launcher, XArmor, Spotlight)
Leman Russ (Sponson
HB, Lascannon, XArmor)
Leman Russ (Sponson
HB, Lascannon, XArmor)
Or something similar....that's 10 tanks.
Every time we run a regulation tourney scenario on a 6'x4' table, I get a traffic jam. Half of your tracks will cut
LOS to the other half. He gets lucky and kills a few hulls in place (no annihilations), and your guns wont get a look at that uber
HTH squad until it's on top of you. If you try to sread out, you will lower your shooting to nothing on those critical first 1 or 2 turns. And dont try to be too aggressive either...if the chimera dies, an entangled
IG squad is worse than useless.
If you want to take the mech force, include some mortar teams as fire support and take indirect Basilisks as your Heavy Support. Let HIM suck on no
LOS for a change... Use the empty chimeras as gun platforms until they die, and then blocking terrain after. I use two griffons to proxy cuz Im too cheap to buy Basilisks, and I keep the hellhounds around because the *excel*
at killing speeders. Open topped for two hits, and you can catch 2-3 at a time cuz they dont block
LOS to each other. Blammo. Ask others how prevalent speeders are these days.
