So, we have some new professions coming to Blackwater Gulch. Sometime in the next couple of weeks I will be releasing a PDF download with new rules for the Rebels & Reinforcements that will have the official rules for Engineers, along with Artillery and campaign games, and also some "errata" and rules tweaks

When we move on to the "Weird West" setting with the Curse of the Skinwalker boxed game and expansion, there will be more new professions to choose from.

First will be the Monster Hunter. He gets +1 Strength and +1 D6 to hit if he attacks Supernatural creatures. If your gang leader is a monster hunter, all friendly models within 12" get the same to hit bonus. Monster hunters will be in the initial expansion and others will follow either as part of a later boxed game or just added to new campaign packs.

So next will be the Preacher. He has +1 Stamina and counts as 2 models for the purposes of outnumbering for morale rolls. If you have 3 models standing, and 1 is a preacher, it's like you have 4 models standing when you check to see if your gang is outnumbered. If a preacher is your gang leader, all friendly models within 12" will also count as 2 models for morale.

After that would be the Brujah (witch). They have +1 quickness and for each Brujah in your gang you may take 1 beast or undead minion in place of a human henchman in your gang. If your gang leader is a Brujah, then any amount of henchmen (if not all) can be minions.

Further along down the line, I'm thinking of introducing some more new Professions, but I haven't given them a lot of thought just yet.

Spiritualist would be someone who gets advice from the spirit world and can see the future, basically fortune tellers. I'm thinking they would be allowed to reroll 1 attack or defense roll per game, but a spiritualist gang leader would be allowed to have any friendly model in 12" take the fortune reroll instead.

I'd like to add some more "mundane" professions too. Been thinking about a miner or a scout, but wondering if both of them would be too similar to a prospector? Or a Ranger, but are they too much like a bounty hunter or gunslinger?

What are some new professions you would like to see some day?

How about a Shaolin Monk like Caine on "Kung Fu?" When I began collecting western miniatures, one of the first ones I bought was Hasslefree's Shaolin Monk model. They could get a DP bonus, or maybe special unarmed attacks.

Hmm that could work. how about... Fists count as melee weapons (so 2 attacks per activation). If they are totally unarmed and have no weapons or equipment at all, they can use their quickness for saving throws instead of DP, but only melee combat.

Sounds good to me - maybe add in some Kung Fu 'techniques that allow you to customise your melee attacks (instead of purchasing different weapons).

Voodoo Man - May negate an opposing model's special ability.

I set my games in New Mexico, so I'd like to see professions that fit the region. Cowboy, Soldier, Scout, Mexican Bandit, Texas Ranger and maybe a specific class for Lawmen.

When I first started out, I was planning to have whole factions in the game based on lawmen or outlaws or mexicans. But the game evolved into what it is now where you can have anyone join any gang.. folks seemed to like that best, gives people a lot more freedom. I could do them as professions though.. will have to think up a good professional ability for each one though.

I also thought about giving different names to the same professions for some characters.. like a native american scout would be the same as a prospector, or a medicine man would be the same as a doctor.

I'll give that idea some thought. I've managed to incorporate named characters from Spaghetti Westerns with few problems.

I made some sketches of a Marksman character. If this were a mini, I'd buy it.

Sounds good .. I was thinking of having a "Brass Scope" item that you could add to any rifle that would do the same thing but maybe it will be better to have it be a profession.

Starting to think about how to expand the line and I've been thinking instead of putting out "support packs" of 3 models for each gang, instead I'd leave them as the 5-man starter boxes and then those support packs will be regular characters not belonging to any specific gang. So, you could buy the Wrassler support pack and that will come with a new wrassler character and 2 melee oriented henchmen. So I was thinking I could start adding these new professions in that way too.

I like the idea of the 3-model "support packs" unaffiliated with any particular gang.

Now might also be a good time to do some market research and find out how many people are playing the game with the official BWG gangs vs. using whatever other cowboy minis (I use a mix of the two). If lots of people like using the "gangs," it makes more sense to release gang-themed miniatures.

I also really like your idea for a "Witch" character. I think the ability to bring creatures into a human gang adds a lot of variety.

I was doing some Googling on Navajo "witchcraft" and I found this picture. I thought it was super creepy and would make a great mini.

There is always the idea of the crazy lady on edge of town making potions to heal (doctor) and just as easily some sort of sleep powders etc.

Take a bit of work but in a monster world has merit.

I'd love to see a Russian Cossack styled character too.

Yeah he's spooky looking. We could do something like a snake oil salesman too. Snake oil is one of the loot items you can find in the adventure game too. Sometimes it heals you, sometimes it does nothing.

Starting to wonder if a witch is the right thing to call it for someone that can add beasts to a gang. I'd like to also have one for a character that can add undead minions like zombies. Maybe that would be for the Spooky Voodoo Man profession

You could go with "Shaman" or something, but from what I've read the usual translation for a malign spellcaster was "Witch.". I see no problem using that word. I agree a Voodoo Priest can be saved for the undead expansion.

Warg... like in Game of Thrones.

Also, what about "Mountain Man" for a profession?

I like the idea of mountain men, I wanted to a whole gang based on them but maybe it would be better as a profession.

Special ability would be Brewin' Moonshine - For an action you can drink your booze and gain +1 Strength & Stamina but also -1 Intellect and Quickness, and that lasts for the rest of the game. If you're a gang leader, you can give moonshine to other folks in your gang and they can get drunk too And of course you can light your bottles of booze on fire and toss them at people too.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Farmer/pioneer? "You were just looking for a place to claim as your own, where your sweat would wash away the corruption of your past life and your hard work would bring forth the sweet bounty of nature. Instead the blood of your family soaked into the dusty earth and only monsters and abominations came at their cries for help."

Perhaps perks like being hardy, or driven?

Sorry; I don't play BWG so I don't know what there is already but it sounds like it could be interesting if you move into monsters.

Saw this dude in this month's Nat Geo. Caption calls him a "mythic Mayan lord of death" at a park near Cancun.

Very cool. He'd make a good Undead / Voodoo miniature one day.
