Here is my band "Otterman"s debut album "Tales from the Riverbank".
Bear with the rambling intro if you can, just a bit of context really, hope its an ok read!
We originally formed around 1995 (can't be that long ago surely!?) but after writing some tracks and playing around Dublin, real life eventually stuck its ugly head in - our 2nd guitarist moved south and our bassist hadnt the time anymore.
So into the cupboard went Otterman.
However, there was always that nagging feeling in my mind anyway (and as I found out later in my brothers too) of something wasted and unfinished.
I can still remember waking up one morning around 2005, hungover to bits and cracking open a fresh can around 10am and hammering away on my drums thinking "dam I miss this" - I hadnt played in years at that stage.
So when my bro - Tadgh - emailed me in March 2010 and asked would I be willing to jam on a few tracks I said "yeah, why the hell not". He informed me, he had recently been jamming with one of our old mates Fieldy from school, who had recently taken up bass and had heard a few of Tadghs tracks and liked them.
So around mid April 2010 in my old bedroom in my parents house we got together, Tadgh belted out a riff and we started jamming together.
After a few jams and working on some toons Tadgh suggested recording a few tracks in a studio and after much practice and tweaking we eventually recorded two tracks through a mate of Fieldys in a little studio in Dublin (we didnt even use a click track - musicians are cringing at this stage I know!). They came out ok but the more we listened the less impressed we were and eventually we realised they were poor.
But the bug had bitten and we decided to concentrate on saving some cash and getting 10 songs together and trying again.
So.....early last year (I dont even recall how!) my brother got in contact with Ross McCormack - drummer of The Delorentos http://www.delorentos.net/ He said he had a studio purpose built in his backgarden (I kid you not) and he'd record us and produce us for a decent fee.
So off we went! My first drum track was laid down on the 26th March 2012 (drums being mainly the first thing you lay for an album) and over the next few months and many miles later (Ross lives waaaay away on the Northside of Dublin - we're all Southside heads) we put down track after track - vocals, rhythm, bass, drums, tweaks et al.
Whats below is a long story.....well long
Our 10 track album fully recorded, mixed and mastered.
Otterman is:
Tadgh (my brother) - guitar lead/rhythm/vocals
Fieldy (our best mate) - bass and vocals
Ratty - drums
Ross McCormack on keyboard - Chasing Demons
All tracks written by Tadgh - except Chasing Demons - Fieldy.
All tracks mixed by Ross McCormack except for Chairshot (mixed by Jamie Doyle - our ex guitarist and ex PenfoldDM fame).
I dont know the name of the Mastering guy - sorry.
Rough and quick breakdown for genre heads
Heavy rock - Chairshot, Level Boss, Come Get Some, Ruddigar
Melodic - Great Ape, Rudy
Mid tempo pop rock - Spankies, Chasing Demons, Big Fizzler, Seasonal
(very very loose genre terms used there btw!)
Apologies for the blatant bump but my band just released our new 4 track EP today.
Its probably the stuff we would have liked to release in 2013. 2013s album was great but not what we really wanted to sound like (it was a bit middle of the road).
We hope this is a bit more raw rock / pseudo grunge.
So let us know what you think of the new stuff (PS all songs free to download).
