Posted this a long time ago but now i have actually started work on some of the ships
With my half of Battlefleet Eschataris completed I have found I still feel a need to make more imperial cruisers, this time however I will be sticking to battle cruisers and currently have plans for 8 of them (due to an eBay win of 7 imperial and 7 chaos hulls plus a battleship)

The fluff behind this imperial super squadron is that they are drawn from the fleets of the sectors bordering a huge ork empire and they act as a hunter killer force behind ork lines, attacking when they can win, fleeing when they cant, nuking waaghs while they are still confined to planets, precision strikes to take out potential ork warlords etc.

The main reason for the ships being from differing fleets is purely so I can paint some funky schemes, all those coats of white got a bit boring last time. The second reason is so I can include some more ships of my own design, my half of Battlefleet Eschataris already includes 2 so rather than turning the Eschataris sector into some sort of ship designing centre of the imperium I am going to branch out into the surrounding sectors.

What I am after first of all are opinions on the point costs of the new ships. Also I have the ship names but not all the class names, any ideas?

Deathwalker= Overlord
Fires of Heaven=Mercury
Raven=Dominion
Sapphire Rose=Mars
Vespula=Jovian
Emerald Queen= Armageddon

Also regarding the names, yes they are all from series of books I have read, it may be corny or whatever but its happening! If you havent already read them maybe you should

Most of the ships are just sprayed black at the moment but I entered a ship in gothicomp and accidentally painted death walker and the crimson king as well as they used the same colours

overlord / deathwalker and un-named battlecruiser class/crimson king

2 tyrants. magnetising the masts/turrets was worth it!

Looking good, I love battlefleet gothic. I've got several sitting on my desk waiting to be painted up right now myself.

Nice looking ships! I love the idea of painting them different colors.

As for a class name on the Crimson King...based on its loadout, it seems like an Overlord variant, so maybe a related word? How about "Patriarch?"

Hah. Now I'll have to dig up my BFG box and see if all my ships are still there, because I've done these exact colour schemes myself.

So yeah, good.

Also commendable that your custom classes are well within the design ethos of the game.

Started work on the Mercury/long serpent class the Fires of Heaven. After opinions on either keeping the prow orange or adding another colour (and suggestions on that colour)

Wow, that's orange!!

Bronze is always a fitting colour to orange. But you may want something that will stand out. So maybe white? Or a grey to mute things down?

Looks interesting. Thoughts on the ships:

You've essentially got a Gothic-class with dorsal lances (standard for battlecruisers) and extended range on one of its lance broadsides.

Or, a better way of putting it; you've got an Armageddon-class battlecruiser, trading a 45cm, firepower 6 battery down to 2 30cm range lances (which is normally a trade for a 30cm, firepower 6 battery). That's probably worth a 10 point saving or so, since that's what it costs to boost the range of a similar battery on a Tyrant.

That would put the Valyria at 235 points, which doesn't sound unreasonable. I might make it 240 points - it's always worth being a bit conservative when you have massed long-range lances, because they require so much less effort to get 'good' shots with.

Crimson King is essentially the same, but with batteries. This time you've essentially got a straight trade from an Armageddon, so I'd keep the 245 points.

As an observation, I'd agree 'Crimson King' is an unlikely name. That title is associated in the Imperium with Magnus The Red, who as one of the Traitor Primarchs is one of the dozen or so most heretical heretics in the history of 40k and unlikely to be getting ships named after him.

borak- i went with the blackand white split prow to getthe saidin symbol from the wheel of time in so sort of listened

locarno- i am aware of the evil connotations, who knows, maybe there are traitors on board lol
those points are similar to what i was thinking, i always add a few extra points on just in case
i see you have battleship captain under your name, any fleet pics?
this is as far as i have got on my "proper" fleet

Hurt my back pretty bad the other day, the drugs they put me on leave me feeling all groggy but with the time off work I managed to get a few bfg ships done.
