We also decided to make the game more interesting by rolling a warzone trait, we rolled a 7 - permanent night fighting for the whole game. Then we rolled everything else"
Warlord traits -
GK intimidating presence
- Chaos hatred incarnate
Mission Type - Kill Points The board:
Grey Knights won the first turn.
Deployment:
My Assassin surveys the battlefield
The Cultists are well dug in
Chaos failed to seize the initiative.
Grey Knight Turn 1 - my purifier combat squad with 4 psycannons moved forward into the same building as the Vindicare. Coteaz cast prescience and perfect timing, but failed his prescience roll. My termies shot rather optimistically at the Land Raider but failed to hurt it. The Jokero tried for the Land Raider as well but missed. My Purifiers and Strike Squad managed to kill 2 berserkers. The Vindicare took a shot a the Land Raider but failed to pen with a 12. Not a brilliant start, but hopefully next turn everything will be in a better position to get the weight of my firepower down.
Chaos Space Marine Turn 1 - Everything charged forward, the rhino moved flat out. Fighting a Khone list this wasn't a massive surprise. The Landraider managd to kill off two Grey Knight Terminators, damn! The predator failed to hurt the chimera thanks to the night fighting cover save. The Cultists shot a vicious hail of fire from their building at the Vindicares position but the assassin came through unscathed. The possessed jumped out of their Land Raider backed up by Karne and the Chaos Lord, that was an intimidating site! They then tried to charge the Terminators but lost 2 to overwatch! This meant they failed their charge even with a reroll, that could cost them next turn! The bikes tried to charge the Strike Squad but lose 2 to overwatch meaning the rest end up out of charge range.
Grey Knight Turn 2 - My forwards push continues! Just about everything moves up. Presicence and Perfect Timing work this turn but Coteaz loses a wound to Perils (wasn't to concerned, so far he's only ever been instakilled so losing a wound wasn't a worry!) Luckily my reserves came on, Purifiers inside a Storm Raven. The Purifiers drop out and scatter amost onto another squad, but luckily made it unscathed though out of position. The Vindicare blasted another round at the Land Raider and blew it to pieces! (One of the rare times he's ever done anything constructive for me!). My Termies gun down 4 possessed, and my Purifiers kill the last 2 and wound Kahn. My nearby Strike Squad finished off Kahn, I was glad he went down before combat as I'm sure he'd have done some serious damage. My psycannon team of Purifiiers tore the Rhino appart causing an explosion that killed 3 inside and pinned them down to boot. My Storm Raven immobilized the Predator using its multi-melta with
PotMS and fired the rest of its weapons into the nearby berzerkers killing 4. My other 5 man Purifier squad picked off 1 more bezerker, and my Strikies killed the biker champion. In the assault phase my Terminators charged the now alone Chaos Lord, taking 2 wounds off before he could attack back. Then to add insult to injury the daemon weapon turned on its master and stripped his last wound, perhaps the Dark Gods were displeased with how many soldiers of Chaos were dying! The Purifers charged the bezerkers and kill them all. However at the end of the turn I realised I'd forgotten to warp quake!!! That could be trouble next turn! Overall though a brutally good turn for the Grey Knights, failing that charge with Karne last turn really hurt my opponents plan I think!
Chaos Space Marine Turn 2 - Although he'd taken quite a beating in the last turn my opponents luck started to change as his Obliterators came in. They direct hitted on their deep strike right behind my Terminators, where Warp Quake would have stopped them, I knew I'd regret forgetting that! They opened up on the Terminator Squad with rapid firing twin linked plasma guns, all hit and all wounded! However he only killed 2 as I passed 4 invulnerable saves in a row with 6's! The Cultists joined the attack killing off my Terminator Justicar with autoguns! The Lascannon Predator calved through another Termie, they are really dropping like flies this turn! His bikes shoot down 2 Purifiers and charge them, the Purifiers manage to kill of 1 biker but lose 2 more of their number, leaving just 1 on his own against 4 bikes next turn.
Grey Knight Turn 3 - Well those Obliterators are a problem! I plan to hit them with as much firepower as I can this turn! I put my Storm Raven into hover to have a shot at that pesky Predator. My Purifier psycannon team turned its attention to the crater nearby and kill 2 marines. My fresh 10 man squad of Purifiers flame the Obliterators with cleansing fire and psybolt rounds but fail to cause any damage, damn 2+ saves! However my Strike Squad had more luck dropping 1 of them. The Storm Raven melts the combi bolter off the Predator, fairly disappointing result! The rest of its firepower chuggs into the building full of cultists, but thanks to nightfighting their covers saves meant only 2 died. The Jokero miss again, hoping they'll hit something eventually! Then the Vindicare again shows his worth by wrecking the Predator. My remaining Terminators shoot the obliterators but do nothing. However on a joint charge with the 10 Purifiers they manage to take them both down wiping them out. Shockingly in bike combat nothing happens and the purifier survives another round.
However seeing inevitable defeat my opponent decided to concede the game and so we stopped it there.
Grey Knight Victory! 8-0
Post Game: Well I really enjoyed that game, not sure if my opponent did as much as I think the dice gods were in my favour today! I seemed to get all the luck this game, and had we continued I'd have probably tabled the Chaos Marines. My Man of the Match would have to be my Vindicare, with a Land Raider and Predator kill to his name! It definitely became one sided as soon as his Possessed death star combat squad all got shot down, I think it would have been a much closer game had they made that charge!
Hope you enjoyed the report!
