I just spent the week off work scrubbing my old guard army with Simple green/Dettol, so now its time to re-vamp and get wid da times, 6th ed style... So this is what I have planned with about $200 to spend on new units...

HQ- CoC, w/Creed. 2 Meltaguns, Flamer, Regimental Standard, Astropath, Squad has krak Grenades...

HQ- CoC. 2 Meltaguns, Flamer, Regimental Standard, Officer has Plasma pistol, Power Axe, Squad has krak Grenades...

Troops- Plat C, 2 Meltaguns, Flamer (Dedicated Vendetta)...

3x Squads, 3x Sniper Rifle, 3x LC, 1st squad Sarg has Power Axe and 1st squad have krak grenades...

Troops- Plat C, 2 Meltaguns, Flamer (Dedicated Vendetta)...

3x Squads, 3x Sniper Rifle, 3x AutoC, 1st squad Sarg has Power Axe and 1st squad have krak grenades...

This list is about 1850pts off the top of my head (i think), I'm still working on ideas but plans are to have Creed off field as reserves protecting him from easy first blood and slay warlord, Vanquisher outflanks using scouts from Creeds ability, command squads in vendettas as shock troopers and extra morale during the game... The LC squads sit behind aegis in blob with CoC, the AutoC squads are either blobbed in terrain, or split into 2-3 squads to fire on multiple troop units (hordes) or advance through any terrain late in the game to take objectives or create a forward line, I could exchange snipers for flamers, but I'm not intending on getting close and I love the idea of sniper rifles esp for facing MC's etc with high T or even getting off some Ap2 Precision shots against terminator or power armoured units... Alternatively if I'm facing drop army, may have Vanquisher in reserves and have the AutoC units forward to encircle enemy drop forces or create a forward buffer... I haven't used these guys for years, and esp not in the latest editions, so its gunna be an exercise in blood...

If you're going to outflank a russ the demolisher is suggested for maximum insta-kill lolz. Alternatively, outflanking that russ squad would allow for good times.
Also, might I suggest dropping the second russ in the squadron for chimeras on your CoCs? Anything that ignores cover is going to blast them off the map and chimeras go a long way to help. When when you factor in the ADL, a hit from a solid shot rail gun/D-cannon only has a 1 in 12 of breaking it. Even if something happens to it your officer can hide behind the ruins.
At BS 3, guardsmen will fail you as far as firing single-shot specialty weapons. I've found lascannons to be inefficient on guardsmen squads, even with help from the officers. Autocannons are a lot most cost efficient to crack rhinos and poke MC's. You can use the points you save to upgrade those snipers to plasma guns which will serve you better for taking out MC's and such. Lascannons are better in your CoC squads (who will have a nice view from atop their chimeras) or on your vandetta.
Finally, if you can find the room: Marbo. He saves the day.
