Hello dakka, time to finally put up pictures of what I'm working on. My FLGS started a fantasy escalation league/campaign/thing, and I drew the short straw and got the Tomb Kings In all seriousness, I picked the army that I liked the look of and that no one else was doing. My second choice was empire but that was supposedly taken by some other guy (he bailed). We started with 500 points and my list mostly from the battalion kit. We increase to 1000 points fairly soon (I'm a little late getting this up here), so any suggestions of what to add next are greatly appreciated.

Liche Priest, level 1

20 skeleton warriors, full command

10 skeleton archers

3 chariots

Tomb scorpion

Here's the full army shot:

Now I have to say that I am not a professional painter and that the bases are nowhere near complete. I obviously want a desert theme, but I am unsure on how to achieve it. I bought some "burnt grass" and gave it a go and it turned out like this:

It looks like mold or body hair or something worse, not dead grass in the Nehekaran wasteland. Any suggestions to improve on this?

Things I'm hoping for in this thread are:
1. Feedback on the painting side of things.
2. Suggestions on what to add in the next levels of the game.

Thanks for checking this out, and I look forward to some feedback, be it positive or negative!

Wooot, Tomb Kings! I always love to see Tomb Kings, they look so damn good!

But this is strange. The Liche Priest looks grainy, maybe it's the photo, but the yellows and some red look grainy to me when the rest looks pretty damn good! The only one I don't like that much is the scorpion, too much black.

About the base, that black grass makes more sense in areas where a massive fire occurred. If you want some dead grass because of the heat you'll probably want something like this:

Yellowish, not black. Something like this, I think:

Keep up the good work

Thanks for the feedback! About the scorpion, I have been feeling the same way, maybe I should do a goldish trim around the main back part of it? And I'm not satisfied with the liche either, I'll work on it some and get back to you on that. That grass would definitely look better, though I'm worried that it would make the army look really monochrome. Any thoughts on that?

As for the escalating, I am definitely adding this guy...

...affectionately named Carl (maybe Kharl?) by my FLGS. In fact, I think I am going for the animated construct monster mash for the army long term. The other things I want to fit into 1000 points are more skeletons, Necropolis Knights and a Necrotect. The possible list:

Liche Priest, level 2
Necrotect
Chariots x3
skeletons x 30, full command
Archers x 10
Tomb scorpion
Necropolis Knights x3
Colossus, additional hand weapon

Any and all feedback is welcome, and thanks again TheDraconicLord

AH, nice one, Carl . Any particular reason for that name or someone just thought he looks Carl instead of Bob? I would name him Bob

Yeah, adding Gold sounds like a good idea. It will brake up the black. Maybe The small pincer painted gold as well. It looks like an onyx construct, so I don't think more gold pieces would look silly.

Well, it's a desert, it kinda is monochrome But you want the other people to pay attention to your models, not the bases. The blue really pops already, and without those mega-contrasting black herbs, it would be the only thing popping. You can try breaking the chromatic with rocks tho. A few grey rocks here and there to make the bases look more unique.

I'm glad it seems you are enjoying both painting and playing with these guys Keep it up!
