Eye of Terror

Hello everybody, I'm assembling my first tabletop army and I wanted to know what you guys think. I have done a lot of research and this is what I have come up with.

HQ:
Daemon Prince w/ MoN, power armor, wings
Chaos Lord w/ MoN, Jump pack and twin lightning claws

Heavy Support:
x1 Obliterator w/ MoN
x5 Havocs w/ MoN, 4 flamers, asp with a plasma pistol, Rhino transport w/ combiflamer and missile launcher

Fast Attack:
x5 Raptors w/ MoN, 2 meltaguns and an asp with powersword

Troops:
x5 Plague Marines w/ 2 plasmaguns, a combiplas
x5 Plague Marines w/ 2 plasmaguns, a combiplas

I am very new at this so please give me advice, tactics and ideas! I was considering giving the havocs all plasma instead but I was'nt quit sure; I imagined that they would ride around in the rhino setting things on fire and using wall of death.

The first thing that jumps out at me is that you're probably spending too big a proportion of points on the HQ's. I would probably stick with just 1 HQ at 1000pts or at least a combination of two cheaper ones.

Also the DP really needs either an upgraded weapon or psychic abilities for it to shine. The Black Mace is a popular choice as the DP hits with it at AP2, but this is just adding more points to the HQ build. There are also more weapons around now that have the chance of Instant Deathing the DP (at least in my meta); if he dies quickly that's a quarter of your points gone straight away. To be honest I wouldn't take it in a game less than 1500pts although they can be great fun if things go well.

The points that you save on your HQ selections can be used to get some more bodies in your other units; even having a unit of 7 compared to a unit of 5 can make a big difference in survivability.

Thanks for the advice! I've got plenty of models that I can use for a Chaos lord. Perhaps I could just take a Lord with MoN in termi armor with the black mace. Also, I have tons of plasma gun bitz and I could make the havocs an all plasma squad, is this unwise?

plasma squads are HIGHLY dangerous and very competative no other army feilds them, they deal with TEQ and most monsterous creatures well

as for a nurgle lord i reccomend a bike to make him T6 and very mobile, a burning brand on this guy alows him to take out small units of infantry on his own whilst remaining under 200 points.

id invest in a helldrake they are the best fast attack we have and it can deal with flyers in a pinch, but most importantly they will kill infantry and thats important given your low model count. many people do not like them but your list runs the risk of being swamped easily so adding one is a wise move.

if you use a cc lord ,black mace maybe ok but with MEQ being the prevailent army id use standard weapons, dont use twin claws thats so last codex, in this dex you can take a fist with your claw, this keeps +1 attack as both are specalist weapons and lets you switch weapons when you need to, alowing the lord to kill marines and fast units with the claw and break termintors and tanks with his fist, he can take any opponent in a challenge as he always has the weapon for the job

the way to win is not to make a grand masterplan, its by making sure your opponents grand masterplan fails
