Hey guys, I'm finally getting to where I have enough models that I can field a standard sized army, maybe not competitive but at least I have enough models. Anyway, if you guys could give me a bit of advice and help me get together the best army based on what I have it would be greatly appreciated. So, this will be a dark angel army as my first purchase was the dark vengeance boxxed set. Anyway below I'll give you guys the list of the models I own and am working with.

1 company master with bolt pistol, power sword, combi-weapon (will use as standard plasma gun if that is not allowed by codex)
1 librarian w bolt pistol/force sword

21 standard bolter gun marines
2 missile launcher marines
2 flamer marines
1 plasma cannon marine
1 plasma gun marine
2 chainsword/plasma pistol sergaents
2 chainsword/bolter pistol sergaents

3 knife/bolter pistol scout
1 heavy bolter scout
1 scout holding a bolt pistol and an ork head with a bolt gun on his leg (will most likely use him as a standard knife/bolter)

1 ravenwing biker with plasmagun/twin-linked boltguns
1 ravenwing with bolt gun/twin-linked boltguns
1 ravenwing sergaent with chainsword/twin-linked boltguns

1 shield/power sword assualt marine
2 chainsword/plasma pistol assualt marine
1 chainsword/power fist assualt marine (gotta love ebay models)

2 powerfist/stormbolter deathwings
1 chain fist/stormbolter deathwing
1 assualt cannon/power fist deathwing

1 Deathwing Command squad that I bought from ebay yesterday, my plan is to buy another set of legs/torsos/shoulderpads and make both the deathwing knights, and the deathwing command squad. I also got this because it has a sheet of transfers which will do nicely to make a lot of the normal space marines look more dark angelish.

1 standard rhino

I also have some random models that are just weirdly put together and will not work. I'd be more than happy to cut the arms off these if you guys see a better place for them in any of the above models

2 space marines with shotguns
2 space marines holding dual bolter pistols
1 space marine holding scout pistol, and severed ork head
1 space marine with chainsword and broken right hand weapon
1 space marine with no arms, if I cut the legs off he can change his name to bob

Soo, if you guys could help me to put together the best army I can with the above listed stuff it would be greatly appreciated. As I understand it 1500 points is the standard game size most people play so this is what I'd like to shoot for. Any advice is appreciated, and again I'm not afraid to frankenstein some arms if it will make a more viable list.

Thanks in advance!

First off,
Welcome The standard dark angels list I've seen seem to be all ravenwing all deathwing or even allies. I'm going to playtest several different builds using my main base with tactical squads and PFGS. Maybe tell me what you would like your play style to be? I see alot of bolt guns so try out the banner of devistation, making all those bolt guns salvo 4 could be like opening a 10 gallon jug of whoop ahh!

I wouldn't worry too much about list building at this stage of the game. Make sure your list is legal when you play; we can help with that but a codex would help more.

Paint up your models, give them cool poses, learn the basics of the game. Then, after a while, we can help you hone.

As you learn, start looking for cheap opportunities to pick up:

Land Raider Crusaders
Ravenwing Command squads

These are the essential units within the DA codex that make "competitive" lists. I use quotes because DA are not top tier, nor are they likely to ever be if they continue to be a testing ground for the vanilla marine codex.

Don't bother with all that though. They're a cool army with cool fluff and amazing models. And if you can find some real Deathwing knights for cheap pick them up too. They're not competitive but they're beautiful.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

I have a codex, and as I'll reiterate from my first post I'm not looking for competitve, or suggestion on which models to buy, I'm looking for what kind of list I could build with these models.

You would need to buy some bits but something like this could work.

Librarian
PFG

Terminator Libby
PFG

Deathwing Command Squad
assault cannon
chainfist

Tactical Marines
plasma gun
(drop pod or rhino)

This is more toward what I'm aiming at, for 1500 points this is what I had in mind.

1x librarian lvl 1 psyker in terminator armor 95 pts

5x deathwing command squad with missile launche, deathwing champion 315 pt
5xdeathwing knight with knight master, 235 pt
5x deathwing terminator squad with 1 assualt cannon and 1 chainfist 245 pt

10x full tactical squad with plasma gun and drop pod plasma pistol/chainsword sergaent205 pt
10x full tactical squad with missile launcher, flamer, and drop pod boltgun/chainsword sergaent 195pt
10x full tactical squad with missile launcher, flamer, and rhino plasma pistol/chainsword sergaent 210pt

This would put me at exactly 1500 pts, and the only models I'd need would be a couple drop pods, and a terminator librarian along with some ebayed legs/torsos for the 2nd set of deathwing.
