A purple room in England

Oh lawd its been a while since ive been here on Dakka. At least 5 years and then some. Mindless pre-amble, witty anecdote.

And the guts of the post.

So ive always been a greenskin despite various tours of duty under chaos and tau war banners. Orks have always pulled my heart strings. No-more so than the lumbering war behemoths they call squiggoths. Saaadly like the vast majority of the populace of terra, I dont have a mini fortune to spend on the glorious Forgeworld resin kits. And cos im yorkshire born im a cheapo kinda guy, which always leads me to building my own stuff. (Oh look here's that preamble I avoided earlier).
Im building a squiggoth!

So I started off by hunting down an appropriatly sized model and or toy to base it off. I started looking for dinosaurs, rhinos and oversized farm animals but nothing came close. Then I got hit by inspiration and saw a scratchbuild using a Lord of the circular metallic objects War Mumak. Genius! I though. So I picked up a couple packs of milliput, sheets of sandpaper and dug out my handy dandy dremel. Well first I tore off all the crap that the previous owner had on ... Id like to show you a picture but I think I purged it from my computer for heresy ... oh no wait, its still here in my ebay feed. Behold!

Yeah, pretty bad, the "head" came off in one go, and the howdah was easily pried off. It was then a case of sanding down the bits of glyphs tacked on and generally making it look less like an elephant. So I covered most of the body in milliput to A) Fill it out and make it feel bulkier and B) Try and lessen the look of the elephant skin. I also sculpted a head with a rather derpy pig snout, kinda like if a boar ran headfirst into a wall and compressed its entire face into the space of a few inches *chuckles to self at that image*

So now follow some pictures. Ive not regular access to a camera and progress is slow at the best of times. So here's alot all at once ...

As you can see there is the glorious snout and gurn of the as of now unnamed squiggy. Also note the beer, only alcohol can fuel something like this. And that gash down the front leg cos the original owner was too spazzy to build it properly

And a side view taken at the same time as the previous. He's way too tall. Considering the bulk of the body and its unknown payload he needed operating. So I planned to take about an inch off the legs. Also note the clear lines of the blobs of milliput I used, they get smoothed over later ... maybe

Rough idea of how I want it to come out looking. Now its been a while since I owned a battlewagon so ive no idea if thats scaled properly or anything. I will be getting a battlewagon kit, but might not use that exact part of it ... though I would like to. Alot of the armour plates will be made of plasticard and scuffed to high hell.
I also discovered RollPlay around this time and use it as backing to my work, check it out for D&D based lols

And then we speed forward about a week ....

This was tonights work, roughing out the shapes of the armour onto paper to use as templates when I get the plasticard. These are the biggest bits, when it comes to actually building the armour there may well be more smaller pieces tacked in place to cover some of the bigger parts where the hide is visible. He also underwent surgery last night ... I accidentally carved his eye out ... so im building him a fake eye. Who needs depth perception when youre this big right ?

So thats where im up to at the moment I guess. Im kinda poor so for a couple of weeks i cant spend any money ... but plans and ideas will come forth and they will be talked about. Ive also the base to get working on. Im sure ive missed stuff out cos it is about 3am nearly ... but hey, this is the internet right?

Questions, ideas, gentle pokes at my handiwork appreciated. this is my first big build and has got me thinking of another project so im enjoying working on it. Love to hear from anybody thats building or has built their own too. Who can afford Forgeworld in this day and age eh?

Erm .... yeah

/Toxic out

I <3 my bits box
