Got a couple of questions about Mantic ogres.

1. When building them, how hard are they to make?
2. how easy are they to paint?
3. what is the details like on them, is any part of them badly moulded etc?
4. Do you need to use green stuff on them much? to fill in gaps etc.
5. Does anyone know of someone who does KoW painting tutorials? rather hard to find them imo

thats all for now

1: building hand weapon and shield is easy, and the blunderbuss/crossbow isn't bad either. Some of the two handed weapons need hot water fixing
2: there is a lot of detail. Thy aren't hard to paint, but will take a while due to tons of detail. GW ogre paint time for me was about a half hr. these are over an hour, due to the amount of stuff. It's not overboard though, the detail helps the model, doesn't detract.
3: detail is awesome
4: I haven't had to use green stuff yet, but it's possible with some of the two handed weapon joiners
5: no idea

(6): you have an interest: so go but some. you won't be disappointed. 6 for $30 RRP isn't bad either, as you can probably buy them online for $22-23 for 6 ogre sized models! They are the same height as GW ogres, but not fat and very muscular: they have super hero style builds.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I originally planned to do the same, but then I tried kings of war and fell in love with the rules. You can't go wrong with either (ogres or rules), in my opinion. My whole reason for buying KoW models was to use for WHFB. I don't play much warhammer anymore, but I've had some luck converting people over to KoW. Definitely try the rules with the models.

the prblem with that is my friends are like diehard 40k fans and getting them to play even a fantasy game is like getting blood from a stone.

I've only built a few so far, but:

1. They take a bit longer, due to needing to wash them (I sometimes wash hard plastic, but not always, and it's always fine). You will also need to immerse them in hot water to get their feet evenly flat for gluing to a base. You will need to use super glue, not plastic cement. You will also probably need to use a hairdryer to heat up 2-handed weapons (you definitely need to do so for both the crossbows and muskets) so you can get the two arms/weapons to join properly. This also means that you need to properly file/cut away the mould lines/flash before assembly. Heating the arms does allow you a fair bit more flexibility in poses though, compared to hard plastic kits. Oddly, I found I enjoyed the heating, gluing and cooling part of the model assembly.

2. I was pumped to start painting them, but I found that due to their arms and weapons crossing over their torsos, that the missile troops are annoying to paint for someone like me. I imagine the 2H weapons will also annoy me, but that I'll be quite happy with the sword and board models, as well as any conversions I do using GW's plastic Orc arms. This is because...

3. They're nicely sculpted, nicely moulded models. I wish that there was more variety in heads and torsos, but that's because I like to make larger models like ogres more individual. They are nice models, though.

4. On the missile troops, there's no real need for GS. I might drop some liquid GS in a couple of wrist joints, but that's largely because I reposed the arms (slightly) while heating and gluing. Otherwise they're fine. Again, I imagine the 2H troops will be similar, and that the 1h/shield troops won't need anything at all.

5. There's some nicely painted examples here, a little way down the page. Not really a tutorial per se, but they're pretty straightforward. These models are a lot more ornate than GW's OK figures though, so maybe look both at OK tutorials for the skin and also Orc tutorials for the more layered and armoured clothing.
