AP 1 or smoke launchers.

Railgun hits my smoke screened rhino. Which to I take, Glancing, or Penetration?

The "AP 1" rule (p66) states that penetrating hits can still be reduced back to glancing due to obscurement. The smoke launcher rule is a modified form of obscurement (it is under the "Obscured target" rules heading on page 69).

So in short: Glancing.

AP1 can only be reduced back to glancing on a roll of 4+ even with smoke, it only applies to AP 1 all other weapons fire hits are automatically glancing when a vehicle is smoked.

Where did you get that rule from?

I ask because I'm looking at my copy of Codex:SM, page 25:

Smoke Launchers

<snip fluff>

The vehicle may not fire in the same turn as it used its smoke launchers, but any penetrating hits scored by the enemy in their next Shooting phase count as glancing hits.

<snip unrelated rules about duration and use while shaken/stunned>

The "'AP 1' Weapons & Armor Penetration" section of the rules on page 66 of the BGB states nothing about hits being downgraded to glancing by smoke launchers only on a roll of 4+, so I'm curious.

Ahoj!
I guess it's a simple case of confusion with Obscurity rules.

hmm reading through the rules again....i think we got a mix up in the general obscured target section where it talks about hull down.

I believe a healthy dosage of General vs Specific rules lawyering is in question.

All Ap1 weapons automatically penetrate.

Skimmers movign fast, and Obscurement, reduce any chance of Penetrating Hits into glancing hits on a 4+.

Smoke grenade launchers, simply automatically downgrade any penetrating to glancing.

Thats how I see it!

and skimmers moving fast also automatically downgrade it to a glance as well.
