Hey all,
Had another prep game to get the feel for my new Dark Angels army. Decent amount of experience with Fantasy but fairly new to the 40k thing. my army consisted of

Azrael
Belial

7 man Deathwing Terminator Squad with CML Belial in here
6 Man RAS squad with Attack bike with Multimelta and LS with Typhoon setup
8 man Veteran Company squad with Plasma rifle and a drop pod Azrael in here

I was facing off against something like

Commander Farsight with 3 bodyguards
1 Jumping Chrysis suit with 2 drones
2 X 6 man Firewarrior units
Broadside suit with twinlinked rail gun and missiles
Hammerhead with character upgrade and drones
Riptide... dear god these things are OP

I had recently had a 1.25k game the same player and brought just a mish mash of stuff that got owned. I hope to at least make it a game this time.

He won the role for deployment and we played a modified set up for a tourney we both are going in soon with 4 objectives. 1 in each deployment zone and 2 on the midfield on each side. I luckily managed to seize the initiative to avoid being shot to pieces immediately. Terrain was sparse and I had deployed defensively so wasn't in perfect place to abuse my stuff but it worked out fairly well.
Turn 1
I had my LS in the far right hand corner to hide it and my Attack Bike had hidden behind a wrecked tank on the left side. Bikes were behind a forest near center of my deployment zone. I deep striked in Belial and Company right beside his hammerhead and broadside in the far left corner. The Drop pod came in near the left hand midfield objective, I had chosen Hold at All costs for my Warlord trait. The Vets deployed with Azrael near it. Bikes moved flat out to get with range and LS came up with bikes as cover to lay some Krak missile pain on the Commander and his bodyguards who were in the open planning on shooting then jumping behind a nearby wall before I seized the initiative. I ended my movement and he interrupted to explain to me 3 of his units had interceptor. The Riptide, Broadside suit and Hammerhead... Down went 3 Terminators. My shooting saw all but one of the first six man squads killed popped two of the bodyguards off Farsight squad. Not bad considering the Multimeltas missed, and continued to almost the whole game. No assaults in range.

Tau
He shot 3 bikes down and 1 more terminator. Lack of interceptor shooting helped. Firewarriors picked off 1 Vet squad, love Azraels 4+ WS. Farisght ran after helping to pop a bike. No assaulting.

Turn 2
I moved everything forward and cleaned up the last of the Firewarriors ad the Broadside suit, love instant death. MM missed again, damn luck and I popped a drone off the Chrysis suit. Put a wound on Commander fiarsight with the LS and bounced bullets off the Riptide. That T6 with 2+ 5+ with FNP and drones is foolish. Bikes assaulted in to it, I had a vet sgt with a TH who I thought might win combat. I was wrong. Many whiffed attacked later and overwatch left just the sgt who had a short lifespan ahead of him.

Tau
Farsight and his remaining bodyguard popped out to shoot and assault the LS, which they wrecked. Hammerhead did nothing as it rolled a 1 to wound. Other Chrysis suit popped a Vet. Riptide too out the last bike, with as assist to a drone, how these things can do anything in CC is beyond me.

Rest of the game was rather anticlimatic. Belial and the Terms were wiped out after taking the drones out from the HH that were blocking them charging something important. Vets tried to wait out the game after this around a scoring objective with no answer for the Riptide. Attack bike tried to sneak back to ninja the objective and failed. Melta missed on riptde again and I was eventually forced to charge into the RIptide with Azrael and a couple of vets with the bike eating the overwatch. Couldn't get through the 2+ armour and eventually Farsight came in and over 3 turns ground down Azrael in a challenge.

Game didn't end until end of turn 7, by which point everyone was dead on my side. I did a lot more damage this time but still got owned. Opponent ignored objectives and just went for wiping me out. Thanks for reading and any advice appreciated.

Edit : I just realized I completely screwed up my costing on my terminators and was about 500 points short. I was prepping a list for 2.5k lately and 2 decked out DWT squads came in at 980 points. That is what I somehow used for my starting point for a 10 man units, thus giving away a ton of points. My opponent laughed mightily when I told him.

That's tough. Can Dark Angels veterans take special ammunition? I am thinking specifically of the one that wounds on 2+ ignoring toughness, it may give you a helping hand to shoot it in the future.

Purge the heretic.

The interceptor shots pretty much screwed you a bit. Guessing he didnt explain to you that he had it or even showed you his list?

If you knew then maybe you could a LOS blicked the Deepstriking units.

I play tau so I know how great interceptor works esp on a space marine player.

Hope you had fun though.
