So I've been looking at Kings of War the past two months or so and planning to make it my Warhammer alternative since I like the rules and the models are good enough looking to me. The only thing worrying me is that certain things seem out of stock on Mantic's website and through my favored online retailer, for example the Basilean Legacy (I was going to play Basilea) is out of stock on the site, and no PDF has been made available via Wargames Vault despite them saying a while back there would be one. Most of the plastic kits are out of stock on the retailer's website, with no idea when they will be back in stock. While I could possibly use other miniatures, I actually like the Mantic figures and want to use those.

This troubles me as since Mantic seems to jump to different games each time they have a Kickstarter, I'm getting worried that they won't actually support the different games they have as they are funding releases entirely based on the Kickstarter; I have no interest in Dreadball and while Deadzone looked interesting I'm really interested in KoW but the last thing I want is to settle on KoW as my primary game and then all of a sudden the units are out of stock and who knows when they'll be back because Mantic is focusing on other things and haven't restocked them. Most of my experience has been with GW where nothing is ever seemingly out of stock and I can order to my heart's content, and that's 180 from Mantic where some things have lists but no figures (Abyssals and Nature, for instance) and it's a question of if they'll bother making figures at a later date since I've heard (possibly from naysayers?) that they are basically funded entirely by the Kickstarters.

Is this actually an issue, or am I just worried over nothing?

Since you're looking at possibly Basilea, Miniature Market has all the Basilean stuff in the clearance section-you can get big chunks of it for a low cost.
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/clearance/clearance.html

The free rules for Basileans are also available on the Mantic page, just not rules for Forces of Nature, Abyssals or new special items yet.

Hope that helps out while you wait for a restock of the real book.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'm aware of getting the rules online, I'm just worried that they aren't as stable as they appear and will either ignore restocking KoW in favor of pushing Dreadball/Deadzone/whatever via Kickstarters or something else.

A second Kings of War Kickstarter is coming in a few months time (this will produce the abyssal and nature armies).

They're about to release a new dwarfs vs. abyssal dwarfs supplement too.

Don't pay too much attention to online ramblings from people who say that they're about to collapse and kickstarter is their only source of income, it's just un-informed noise.

Okay that's good to know I am fully behind Mantic but I didn't want to look at buying things in the future and have them all be out of stock with no idea when they'd be replenished because there's another game being promoted.

Runnin up on ya.

I don't think he's worried about them collapsing SS; he's worried about actually being able to purchase the product.

Wayne, I wouldn't worry too much. Right now there are a few factors that could explain why you're unable to purchase from Mantic. 1) Deadzone was massive and really did take all of their energy to get out the door. 2) All of the Basilian stuff is made in China and they're just wrapping up Chinese New Year which pretty much shuts the country down for nearly an entire month. 3) I think they're planning a move to a bigger space and might be running low on some stock during the transition.

I'm hardly a Mantic fan but I also don't think you have any cause for alarm in this regard, other than you have to wait if you actually want to give them your money. Odd that, having to beg a company to please take your money but such is Mantic.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Wayne,
both TheWarStore and MiniatureMarket are having pretty big 40%+ sales on their Basilean models right now.

As for the rulebook - this is a printing issue. AFAIK the hardcover and the Basilean legacy book sold out of the most recent printing and Mantic needs to get another print run into distribution.

Sadly I am out of money to start making purchases right now so maybe I'll get lucky and there will be some deals in 2 weeks when I might have some spare cash

You have no ideia how i loved this. Do we will get some type of "starter box" for this suplement? I would love to buy "dwarfs vs dwarfs in a box"

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
