So, I know it's still hasn't even been a week yet, but I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel and reboot the Kickstarter campaign? Pledges have pretty much stopped and I know some will trickle in and we could still fund as is... but I think it might be better to revise everything now with better pricing and a better format. I think I really screwed up with the Day 1 pledges by having those crazy prices.. and it didn't help that SDE launched 2 days before... there's always going to be big companies using KS for a preorder system, so I'm gonna have to work around them anyway... but I think a revised campaign would be a good idea.. just wondering what you guys think.

So basically, the new idea is... start with an easier to reach $5000 funding goal. The stretch goals will remain as is, the $10k goal would be for free US shipping for pledges over $100, followed by the 28mm Medium, then the 15mm heavy, etc. A new goal every $5000.

Pledges would be:
$1 - A la carte
$20 - rulebook only
$45 - 1 15mm squad (2 lights & 1 medium) & 1 rulebook
$55 - 2 28mm light Mechs & rulebook
$70 - 2 15mm squads & rulebook
$95 - 3 15mm squads & rulebook
$115 - 4 15mm squads & rulebook

Also after the 28mm mediums are unlocked I could add:
$90 - 1 28mm squad & rulebook
$160 - 2 28mm squads & rulebook

And the add ons would be the same as now too, except the 15mm squads would be $30 for 2 lights and 1 medium, or $25 if you bundle them with a rulebook. Also if you pick a pledge but decide you don't want the book you can swap it for other items like terran or whatever.

Anyway, any thoughts?

I know in our group, 4 of us, we like KS where there are faction options, so that we can each have a different one.

Yeah, unfortunately I have to wait to unlock the other races. thats why I'll have a few human based teams at first.. then when we get to the next race I can add a few different teams for those too. I'm kind of thinking of the teams kind of like space marine chapters or eldar craftworlds.. each has their own color scheme and emblem and play style, but still coming belonging to the same race.

Generally when a Kickstarter cancels and relaunches I stay away completly. If you couldn't do your homework and get things right the first time why should I trust your numbers on the second go around...

Why aren't you running this campaign through Game Salute? They published BWG why aren't they helping with this one?

Tabletop Kickstarter funding is getting harder and harder to come by, projects aren't funding like they were 6 months ago. People expect more and their demands are louder.

There's not going to be a reboot unless the campaign doesn't fund.. if that happens I'll do a new one with more streamlined goals and more affordable sets. The numbers were correct the first time, the issue was the perceived value.. 3 mechs with enough extra weapons for 8 wasn't a good idea, but 5 mechs with less extra bits is a better deal, you're getting the same amount of metal in the end, just different pieces that will work better as a "starter set".

I wanted to run this game myself so it would be mine. I can make the decisions and decide which models I want to pay for and produce, rather than letting another company decide what I want to make. Game Salute is great, and they really helped BWG get out there, but I just want the freedom now to create my game my way. And I'm still working on BWG for the record, and Game Salute will be handling the retail distribution for Mechadrome.. the publishing part and game design and all of the creative stuff will come from my head and my bank account

I'm learning the hard way that Kickstarter isn't so good for the "little guys" anymore, in gaming anyway. I feel like backers have been spoiled by big companies running glorified pre-orders offering tons of bonuses. I just can't afford to compete on that level, and I doubt I ever will. So I'll just to the best I can and hope for the best if this campaign is successful I'll get all of the rewards sent out asap and then I'll probably just release stuff the old fashioned way. I had another idea though to do a series of small campaigns for each race in the game, just to fund their sculpts and maybe a couple of free agents and that's it.. no neverending stretch goals, there would be a finite amount of items each campaign would produce, so on my end it will be a lot easier to fulfill the rewards a lot faster.

Just do what you can afford to do. As long as you hit your funding goal I wouldn't sweat it. Keep it manageable, and under control. You will never be able to please everybody.
