I thought it would be best to keep a running "WIP" thread here with general info about the game and what's coming, and I'll save the News & Rumors forum post mostly for announcements and that sort of thing. I'll be making an all new news post for the new Kickstarter campaign a week or so before it's ready to launch to start showing it off, but new stuff will likely end up mixed in here at first. Anyway, off we go!

At long last, I received the 28mm terran light mech samples. I was expecting resin, but these big metal models... because they came from the master molds. Iron Wind does all of their masters in metal, and then they'll make the resin molds from there. So, I didn't get as many samples as I expected.. only 3. It's not going to be enough to paint up a full squad for each team (I would have needed 4). These master metals are expensive, so more models will have to wait for the production molds.. and I need to wait for the production molds till the Kickstarter is done since my preliminary budget is ever-shrinking. So, I'll just be painting up 1 light mech and 1 medium mech to show off for each team, then I'll do 3D renders to illustrate the different pilots and their mech's payloads that will be available. Because there's 2 different legs for the medium mechs, I might be able to paint up 1 or 2 extras, but I'm not sure yet. I really love the bigger models, they came out great. I'm still waiting to hear back about prices, hopefully I'll have them soon.

I'm thinking about setting up the KS goals a bit different than last time. I was thinking of a $4000 funding goal.. this pretty much just covers my sculpting costs so far.

Next goal will be $7000 for 3 alternate poses for the terran light mechs, so they would have all the same poses as the original 15mm mechs. Currently there's just the 1 pose for 28mm. The prints for these larger models are expensive, so this goal covers the extra printing, and molds for everything.

$10,000 goal will be for the Arena Hazards and objective markers, and that will be my "break even" point including all of the models that will need to get made for rewards, molds and sculpting.

After that, at $12,500 I'll unlock the 15mm medium mechs (I'll just be offering 15mm light mechs to begin with, and all 15mm models will be add-on only, pledge levels will all be for 28mm mechs).

$15k will be the terran heavy mech. I hope to have a preliminary sculpt to show off when the campaign starts, but this one won't be all done and ready to print until July.

$18k will be for Trion, the free agent.

$22k - I'll add another free agent in here, not sure which one yet.

$25k, if we get that high, will be for the bionic light mechs and from that point on I'll plan to unlock a new sculpt for other races and free agents every $5000. I'm not really expecting to get that high, so the campaign is mostly going to be centered on getting the rulebook and the terrans done, once they are all shipped I can always launch further campaigns to fund the other races.

So that's where I'm at now I'll post some photos when get these sample mechs painted up. I'm thinking the new campaign will probably be ready to go around the end of May.

Like I said I'm really interested. Would love a pledge level just for mediums, and a way to add-on a weapons upgrade to have them come with all the weapons. I'll likely be in for a half dozen medium mechs with weapons if the price is around what you'd been predicting.

Yeah I'm still waiting to get the official pricing .. they just got my medium prints so I guess they still have to go over everything and get the samples made first.

What I'm thinking of doing for the pledge levels is having 1 pledge for 1 light mech, another pledge for 1 medium, a pledge for 1 squad of 2 lights and a medium, and then a pledge for 2 squads and a rulebook as a 2 player starter set kind of deal. And, if we get the heavy mechs funded I'll add a pledge for 1 heavy, and a pledge for 1 heavy and 2 squads as a full sized team bundle.

Then there will be an illustrated list showing each pilot's mech with its payload, listing the weapons it comes with. So at the end you just select the pilots you want, and if you want extra mechs you can just increase your pledge amount to cover them.

What's really going to happen in the end is the pledge manager site will be an online store, whatever amount you pledge in the campaign + shipping credit will be like store credit, so you just go in there to select the mechs you want and any extra stuff over your pledge amt you can pay for like any other online shop.

I'll probably do a "mechbuilder" option in the pledge manager where you can make your own custom mechs with the weapons you want, similar to how you might select a t-shirt size and color in an online shop. They'll be the same price as the standard mechs, the selecting pilots will just be an easier way to keep the different payloads organized and each will include a pilot card, but the custom mechs won't.

And I'll also be selling weapon packs separately too There will be light mech ranged weapons and light melee weapons, and then the same 2 packs for medium mechs. For heavy mechs, I'm going to see if it's easier to just include all weapons so there will just be the 1 to choose from.

Arena hazards will be sold separately, and in a pack of 4 that will include 2 rovers, 2 crawlers and 6 objective cards.

Here is a WIP shot of Buzzkill, from the Terran Titans. I included a 15mm scale mini next to him for size comparison.. and the guy primed white will be Tsuragowa of Team Bushido. I should have them both finished next week, just in time to get the medium mech samples (I hope).

So, here he is! I'll post more pics when I get them both finished

Could you post a pic of it next to a medium mech? Or are you waiting on the casts of the medium mech?

You do know that you and I are going to have to meet up at Showcase Comics in Philly or the like for a round of "Titanfall" on the tabletop, right?

The simplicity of your planned pledge levels in the above sounds good. I'm really here for the mediums, though, and I think others might want a lot of a certain type, too. So if there were any kind of price break for buying multiples of a particular add-on that would be sweet . Dreamforge did this if you bought 2 of an add-on, and then 3 or more. This was really good incentive for his campaign because it got people to buy 3+ of an add-on instead of just one

So, in that case the add-on price (per mech) if you buy one extra medium mech via the add-ons menu is $X, if you buy two it is $Y per mech, if you buy 3 or more it is $Z per mech. This doesn't affect the pledge level price, just the add-on price.

Hope this helps

Yeah I'm still waiting for the medium sample models. I was going to wait to send in the 3D print i had so I could get comparison shots, but I didn't want it to take longer to get the models made. So as soon as I get the mediums I'll take some pics of everything.

If you can make it to the Mechanicon in October I'll be there demoing the game

I was thinking about doing a discount for multiple mechs actually, for any combo of lights or mediums or heavies. I'm still waiting to get the price info for the models though so I still have no idea what they will all cost. But I was thinking of something like save $5 on 2 mechs, save $10 if you get 3, etc. i don't want to have dozens of pledge levels though so that would just apply to add-on items, but the squad level pledges would have the discounted price.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I put together a spreadsheet, mostly for my own reference, so that I can make sure all of the different pilots will use up all of the different weapon pieces. But, if you're curious to see what the payloads will be like, here's the URL

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sVTAuUTZm1hse1tQRWiSDu5RDUhl2T2uZvdl9AhUXac/edit?usp=sharing

I tried to mix up the weapons a bit so it doesn't always end up with the same mech having left and right weapons that were always the same.. there's a couple like that, but most are mixed so there will be more variety.

After I get the samples painted I'll be putting together PDF pilot cards that will have all of the other info, so those of you that are testing can use the official stats if you don't want to make your own from scratch. I want to have the cards all ready to go for the relaunch.

Trying to hurry, but now i'm stuck waiting for them to get me the medium mech samples. I hope that will be this week. Then a couple weeks to finish painting and then I'll be ready to go I'm aiming for around the end of the month to relaunch the campaign, but I'll still have the same November delivery date.

So, I got some price info finally! For once, my guesstimates were right. Medium mechs will be $35 retail, which includes packaging and all. There won't be any packaging other than a ziplock bag for the KS though, so that drops the price to $30. I wanted to do discounted pricing for the campaign, at first I was thinking of bundling to get a discount but just to make math easier all around I'm not going to do a bundling discount and instead just make them $25 each.

Medium mech weapon packs will be $15 each, there will be one with all melee weapons and a booster jet, and another with all guns & turrets.

I'm still waiting for final prices for the light mechs, but I expect them to be in the $15-20 range. Hopefully I'll have those prices later today. Based on these prices, I'm thinking if we get it unlocked the heavy mech will likely be around $60 retail, $50 for the KS. There will just be 1 heavy mech that comes with all weapons and cards for a pilot for each team.

So if the big ones are 28mm scale, what is the objective size of the model? Is it comparable to like, a Space Marine Dreadnought? What size bases are those on?

And when are we getting the next BWG? ;-)

The Last Chancer Who Survived

The light mechs are about the same size as a space marine dreadnought, on a 50mm base. The medium mechs are bigger and closer to a DreadKnight and on a 60mm base. I was actually planning for the lights to be around ogre sized and the mediums to be dreadnought sized, but when the prints were done they were bigger than I expected but I decided that I love em bigger

BWG, I'm just waiting for Game Salute to greenlight new sculpts. I have a bunch of characters left over from the last campaign that are ready to get sculpted, and other new ones too. I'm thinking they just want to get the newer models out in the world first before they start developing new stuff. But we have decided to postpone the Underlands / weird west stuff. With that game Shadows of Brimstone and so many other weird west things happening, we figured we can't really add much to the genre so for now i'm going to keep BWG historical and what I hope to do later on is a big hardback 2.0 rulebook that will feature all of the folklore stuff for the skirmish game.

I'm taking the Underlands core rules though and I'm gonna be turning that into a sci fi dungeon crawler set in the Mechadrome universe. It's kind of like a cross between descent and warhammer quest, only with phased plasma rifles in a 40 watt range. Really long way to go for that though, I might start it off as a print & play kind of game through wargame vault and see if it can grow from there.

The price sounds great. The weapon packs are high enough that I might wait on those, will they be sold later / at retail, too?

Also, since I haven't been a part of your campaigns before, what do your pledge managers look like?

For example, if I could only pledge for a single medium mech during the campaign, how long would I have to add on for 5 more? Things have gotten awfully tight for me with miniature spending, and I definitely want to back this and get these, just not sure if I can get the number I want while the campaign is still running. So, general info on that would be appreciated.

Game Salute ran the pledge managers for BWG, so I'm going to be setting up my own all new one for Mechadrome. Basically I'm thinking of doing it the same as Bombshell did for Counterblast... Set up an online store with products set to pre-order status, and your pledge in the campaign becomes an online gift certificate code # that gets emailed to you for store credit. So you plug in your # on the site and you'll have that amount for credit for ordering whatever you want. If you want more stuff and go over the limit, you can just add to the order and pay the rest with paypal.

All of the bonus items that get unlocked will be to anyone who pledged over $100... So it really doesn't matter what pledge level you choose, your pledge amount will be credit and if you're over $100 in your pledge, or add on enough extra stuff in the pledge manager to get above $100, then you get the freebies too

I was thinking I'd set that store up right after the campaign ends, and keep the store going forever but for pledge rewards you'll have to get your order submitted within maybe 3-4 weeks to make sure you can get in on the first shipment. I'll still be ordering extras though for retail so it won't really matter if there's a few stragglers.

Okay, the 3-4 week timeframe post-campaign is the key info for me. I think I should be able to make that work, although if it was more like 6 weeks that could help, too. Thanks for the info

We'll see how it goes. It's going to take several months to produce all the models when I place that final order especially with Gencon happening in August and that will shut production for them down to almost a stop for the whole month, so I doubt it will be a problem to add in some extras here and there before everything ships.

I'm still planning on november to ship out the lights and mediums.. then if we get them unlocked the hazards would be december and heavy mech would be January or maybe february. But, hopefully everything will come sooner.

I haven't decided yet but I may just leave the other races out completely and focus on the rulebook and terran mechs now.. so that things don't get sidetracked or delayed with too much stuff. I think I'd rather be able fund everything and be free & clear and then work on separate small campaigns for each race later on, so each one will be quick & easy to fulfill.

More not-so-unexpected delays. Well, I wasn't expecting them, but I knew it wouldn't be so easy Before they can make the molds for the medium mech, they have to edit the prints for the legs.. there's an open area between the back of the knee and the piston that connects the hip and the lower leg. We're either going to slice the legs at the hip and have 2 separate leg pieces, or we might be able to just remove the pistons and have those be an extra piece you snap in. Waiting to see what they think will be the best way to go.

Anyway, this means they're going to need even more time to get these models done. I don't want to wait till July to re-launch.. I can't afford to. It will take me 1-2 weeks to paint the mediums when they do show up. So I'm thinking I'll finish painting up the light mechs, take some nice photos, and then when I finally get the samples for the mediums I'll show them off unpainted and launch the campaign around the fist week of June. Then I'll be able to paint the new samples up to show off during the campaign... extra excuse to spam pics all over the news sites and keep traffic coming to the campaign page

I'm working on the images and things for the new campaign page now. I'll probably be launching it in about 2 weeks or whenever I get the samples for the medium mech. There were some edits that needed to be done to legs for the molds to work properly, so those edits will be finished this week. I want to be able to show off the actual mech models on the new campaign page, rather than using 3D renders for everything.

I just got the finalized pricing for the models now. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to raise them a bit.. but not too bad. For the KS prices we'll have to do $20 for light mechs and $30 for medium mechs. Starter sets with 2 lights and 1 medium will be $65. Those will also be the first 3 pledge levels, followed by $150 for 2 starters, a rulebook & arena cards. (Retail prices will likely be about $10-15 more for each...)

For goals, I'm looking at $4000 to fund. $7000 for alt poses for the light mechs. $10,000 for arena hazards and objective markers, plus every pledge over $100 gets 2 free hazards or markers. $12,500 for Trion, $15,000 for the terran heavy mech. $17,500 for the 15mm scale medium mechs. $20,000 for another free agent (haven't decided which one yet) and every order over $100 will get a free light mech. After that, I'm going to plan to do a new free agent mech for every $5k. Not really expecting to get that high, but just in case... i will most likely not be doing the Bionics or other full races in this campaign, unless it starts going amazingly well. I want to keep my goals focused on what I know I can deliver in a timely manner, rather than promising tons of new models that end up taking 2 years to finish.

For shipping, I'm going to have every pledge over $100 get free US shipping, or $10 shipping credit for international pledges. Shipping charges will be added in with the pledge manager and paid through paypal, so you don't need to add shipping charges to your pledge. I'll have a little chart showing estimated costs. The pledge manager is going to basically just be an online store, so it will be easy to add shipping or even other models to your pledge if you want. Your initial pledge amount will be treated like store credit.

The starter set contents will be fixed for retail, but for the KS you can choose any pilot you want. So, for example if you do the $150 pledge, you can pick 3 mechs from each team and make it like a 2 player starter set.. or you can pick all 6 from one and have the full team. You can also add in any unlocked free agent mechs instead too.

For the arena hazards, when they get unlocked I'll be offering them in sets of 2 of the same type (rover or crawler) for $10, or a set of 4 hazards and 2 objectives plus 6 new arena cards for $25. The heavy mech will be an add-on for $45, the rulebook will be $20 separately and the standard arena cards will be $10 for a deck of 30 cards. And for the 15mm mechs, those will just be add-on items and the same prices as the old campaign. The game will just be focusing on 28mm going forward, but since the 15mm were already made I'll still be offering the models as add-ons... 15mm scale models will eventually be used for a squad based wargame I'm hoping to do maybe next year or possibly the year after depending on how it goes.

So that's where we're at now. Sorry it has taken so long to get this far, there were so many delays, but we're finally almost ready to go

No pledge for a group of mediums? Say, 3 of them?

Right now you don't really have incentive to pledge big, so that's something to consider. Would've loved to see something that would incentivize that, like a discount or extra weapons if you order a certain number.

That said, the price is still very reasonable (to me), and keeping it simple makes sense. Looking forward to it

I could do a add-on bundle kind of thing.. Maybe 3 light mechs for $55, 3 medium mechs for $80? 3 heavies for $120?

Shadeglass Maze

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking . And then it's easy, you just select that as an item from the webshop (i.e. a 3-pack instead of a single add-on) when the time comes.

An "add-ons only" pledge level would then be a catch-all for all of these if people wanted them in lieu of a starter set. So, instead of needing an all-mediums pledge level, someone could select the "add-ons only" pledge level, and then just up their pledge to the appropriate number (for example, to $160 if they wanted two 3-packs of mediums).

Yep, I'm going to have an a la carte pledge too that will be $1 and then you just increase the amount to cover whatever you want from the add-ons menu

It won't really matter what pledge level you choose, the free stuff will all be based on the amount you pledge, so you can pick any level and increase it to whatever you want to cover the stuff you want. I thought about only having the a la carte pledge and no others, but I figured most folks are used to having different levels so I want to make it easy for everyone to follow.

I still have a lot of graphics to make for the stretch goals and add-ons, but here is the KS page so far

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gangfightgames/1745794300?token=84223861

Right now I'm planning to launch it next week, probably around wednesday or thursday, depending on how long it takes to finish and get approved. If I'm not able to get my medium mech samples by then, I'll use the old photos of the 3D prints for the size comparison shots. Since there's already going to be tons of images on the main page, I figured I would post Update #1 right away and use that to show all of the different pilot payloads. There will be 6 different pilots for each team, 7 if we unlock the heavy mechs.
