Heyo.

Since I'm nearing the light at the end of the tunnel for my 'Nid army and various conversions I'm making for it, I'm seriously considering revisiting my first army (Dark Angels) and redoing a lot of the paint jobs and squads using what I've learned along the way.

One of the areas I really want to improve on is my current squads of Deathwing, as they honestly look terrible.

I've already put major thought into grabbing some of the new plastic termies and doing conversion work on them, but if I go that route I was also looking at the forgeworld Deathwing iconography shoulder bits and I have to admit they look really nice.

Has anyone used these shoulders? Is it worth the money, or is the casting quality / fit of the parts at a level where I would be better off grabbing the sculpting tool and a box of putty?

I have 2 sets of them, but have not used them yet.  They look really nice though.  I am a bit mystified about how they sell them as 5 deathwing pads and 5 generic crux terminatus pads, since you get 5 of those in the box.

The forgeworld Crux Terminatus look MUCH better than the plastic kit bitz. I don't know about the deathwing icons though. If I were only going to have 1 squad of Deathwing... I'd buy them. Were I going to do more than 1 squad, I wouldn't want the duplication. I would probably use them as 5 squad sergeant pads.

I agree with Kimonarrez. They would be ideally suited to sarge pads.

I bought a set to see how they looked, and quickly sold them. They are nice, dont get me wrong. I cannot sculpt that good, but I think I wanted something different for my deathwing, so i am waiting for GW to release their dark angel codex next winter to see whats in store. If they can do for the DA as the did for the BT, then all will be good.

I plan on buying multiple sets of the various termie pads when I get around to working on my sallies more. I agree that the duplicaiton can be especially annoying with the FW pads as a result of the extreme personal flair put on each pad, but I have a plan. I'm going to order a set of salamander pads and a few other assorted chapters pads. Then use some greenstuff casting to switch details over from the other non-sally pads onto some blank pads from the termie plastics. I'll move a sally symbol over to each pad using the same means. So I'll end up using one unmodified sally set and a bunch of unique, but similar style, pads. Plus I'll need the crux pads that come with the other chapters' pads anyway, so it gives me a chance for some varriety AND a fun modeling project.

I am hoping to vary my Deathwing Terminators when the Dark Angels come out too, but I am a little worried that the bling will be a little gaudy and chunky like the templar extras. Like the massive chains on the bolters etc..

- No complaints about the new templar helmets and chest plastrons though -

I am ordering some Deathwing Pads from FW soon so I'll PM you when I get them if this thread is dead.

Hmm. Yeah, that's a good point - maybe I'll hold back for the new codex, especially if they release "icon bitz" packs like they did for the BTs.

Usiel - If the thread's dead (likely) by then, I'd really appreciate that.

I love them. One day I will make as Deathwing assualt cannon list of doom. I think I am going to paint them Pre Heresy black instead of white though.
