So after the tournament yesterday I'm honestly wondering:  What would beat my Turbo list in Mangled Metal?  It's pretty sick - resilient as all hell (Centurians take a pounding and when they go down I make them get back up).  It's fast, you can't charge me, and oh yeah - I have halfjacks running around randomly shutting down your warjacks systems for turns at a time.

Anywhere, here's the list:
Darius
2x Centurian

My strategy is simple:  fortify on one centurian, jackhammer on the other, move forward as a group.  Use halfjack mines to close off likely flanking paths if I'm facing a numerically superior force.  Charge the enemy, grind into paste.

I'm thinking bonejack heavy Cryx with lots of arc nodes would mess me up - get around the Wall o' Centurians and arc spells into Darius.  But I don't know how that army would fare in a tournament?  What kind of take all comers lists are going to give me fits?

I dont know half the things you just said, but you sound pretty confident.

How does your army list do against itself?

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

Shadow: against itself? Purely down to dice rolls.

How do you think you would match up against the Coven + 6x bonejacks?  I have not played against Darius, and I am not sure what he's got for offensive spells to break the girls' "Imprison" spell.  As well, any failiure to finish off a bonejack in melee = Ghost Walk + Direct LOS on Darius.

Honestly I'm not familiar with the Coven at all. What does Imprison do?

This list would not fail to finish off bonejacks in melee. Charging Centurians will make quick work of bonejacks.

6 bonejacks would provide too many 'nodes for Darius to deal with. One of them would get a noded Imprison on turn 2 and then it would be 'good-game'.

So what's imprison do?

And would the coven+6 jacks list be a viable list for a take all comers tournament?

6 node coven seems like a pretty decent build as an assassin list.  The girls have 9 focus between them, and in perfect conjunction, all spells are boosted (hit and damage).  Not much survives 3 boosted "stygian abyss".  I don't see why you'd run anything other than bonies, since the coven can't fight in HTH, and has little debuff compared to Dirty D.  You can almost make it a 7 node coven, but it goes over 350 by 1 point!

Imprison throws an impassible barrier around a model which may only be breached with a magical attack.  I forget it's ARM value... it's something reasonably high.  I don't know what offensive spells Darius has, but if he has none, it -will- take a Centurion out of the game, (either that, or Darius will waste focus bailing it out).

Thr Problem with imprison is it can not cut a model in half.  So if he keeps his centurions in a tight formation with Halfjacks, you'd be hard pressed to get any imprison off.  All he has to do is cast his movement spell and keep the other four focus making him armor 22 with 22 life.  Send out the halfjacks to dismatle arcnodes at the right time, and WHOOSH!!!  Two centurions in combat with the witches isn't good.  I personally run Darius with a Stromclad and Centurion just b/c the Stormclad is a little bit faster.

Also this list is a take all comers.  The Coven List with 6 death chickens would have a sad, sad day against Nemo.  Then again who'd ever bring Nemo in a take all comers Mangled Metal.

I generally keep the Centurians (and sometimes Darius) in base to base as they advance so everyone is benefiting from Fortify. So you're saying that will prevent Imprison from working?

They have to be able to put down an AOE of 4 (I believe it could be 3) centered on the target without it crossing over any base.  If the entire base is not encompassed in the AOE then the spell will not work.  Also don't forget as long as those Witches are in they're "We're so powerful" stance, they do not benefit from stealth.  Dropping a S13 shell on one of them could really put a damper in their mood.

Maybe the list would be better off with Gaspy instead of the coven.  I dunno, I just love the models on the girls.  In the past I've always had trouble with massed bonejacks.  Granted, with Darius, he can have a lot of models in play (pesky halfjacks).

B/C of his half-jacks and Fortify; Darius is probably the best caster for MAngled Metal.  However you can always exploit someone's strength.  Plus don't forget he can only have fortify on one jack at a time, and Darius being so close to his jacks doens't mean he can't become the perfect bowling pin.  Especially if you have 2 open fists (Thunderhead, Deathjack, Devastator).  Not to mention you could play ring around the rosey with Siege and two (brain fart) big gun heavy mechs widdling down the Centurions.  Also Karchev could probably get around Darius if Jeff continues to run his force that way.  The Haley Turtle with two big gun jacks as well could really wreak havoc on this Darius list.

Green monkey: Don't forget that fortify means you cannot knock down or move the target warjack & anything in base to base with it. If Darius is sticking close to the cents (and honestly the distance is situational, typically he's anywhere from right behind them to a few inches behind depending on my opponent).

I don't think Karchev has the speed to outflank me - I'm pretty sure I can make him go through the Centurians to get to Darius. Given that I'm almost certain to initiate combat (since I can't be charged for the most part) I think I can probably knock Karchev out and/or kill his two jacks before he can kill the Centurians twice.

I wonder - can the Halfjacks system lock Karchev?

I don't know about Siege; never played him before. Sounds promising.

The Turtle would suck - but I'm not sure how much. Probably the best bet is Haley + Defender + Hunter; 2x Defenders won't do enough damage before the Centurians and Darius get into melee. Maybe two hunters and a Centurian of her own?

Karchev does not count as a Jack.
So I doubt Halfjacks can lock him.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

He'd be a big pain then. Question becomes can I keep him away from Darius while the Centurians chew up either him or his Warjacks. Thus far in my play against Khador it seems like a Jackhammmered Centurian can all but destroy a Khador jack with a charge.

You'd be hard pressed, pending what jack it is.  Don't forget Karchev's feat, and Unearthly Rage.  He can tow the Jacks around your Centurion screen, pop his feat, and cast Unearthly Rage.  His two war jacks can then turn any direction, charge Darius, and have boosted Melee attack and damge rolls.  Even worse if he takes the Sprigand or Sprigands which have 2" reach giving him more of a cushion to round about your screen.  Darius is beatable, though I have yet to lose with him in Mangeled Metal, just don't too comfortable in one technique or else you'll get spanked one day.  One trick ponies always get figured out.

I don't have enough experience with Darius yet to tell you for sure, but I think Deneghra with bonejacks could indeed do nasty things. My usual combination in 350 MM is her, a Slayer, two Nightwretches and two Deathrippers. 350 on the nose. The bonejacks are all arc nodes, the Nightwretches each put out a P14 shot at 6", and the DRs are mostly used for arcing and Slamming. Fortify takes away some of my tricks, but Crippling Grasp on one of your Cents makes it painful to keep them in base contact- CG gives -2 speed, strength, defense and armor, and cannot run, slam, charge or use special attacks. This spell can just about take a heavy out of the game, and chaining your other heavy to it is obviously less than fun.

After slowing them down, a 14" run with a bonejack around your formation to arc spells into Darius becomes much easier.

What about Kreoss, he's got Lamentation to make Full Throttle cost 6! focus and AMP to remove upkeep spells.  It seems like without the advantages of fortify, it becomes a more even fight.  Maybe a Guardian +2 Redeemers.  I dunno if it fits under 350 though.
