OK, so I've gotten into Dark Age in a big way - skirmish scale, fantastic looking miniatures, books with amazing production values - what's not to like?

I noticed that we don't have a consolidated "Dark Age News & Rumors" thread here on Dakka Dakka in the...News & Rumor forum.

Well, we didn't until now!

Here's an Outcasts preview from Templecon earlier this month:

The Salt Nomads are what finally push me over the edge, and now I'm going to be starting up Outcasts (Salt Nomads!), Forsaken (Prevailers!) and Kukulkani.

And maybe CORE too!

Please feel free to add in anything interesting that pops up - the whole point of this thread is to help keep everyone up to date!

I have a small force of CORE and have only played one game of it with my friend who used the big alien guys (can't remember the name), all I can remember from the game (it was a while ago) that not much happened till towards the end where everything kept dying! We keep on meaning to get back into it as the models and background are amazing but sooooo many other games have gotten in our way lol! This reminds me I need (not need but you know how the addiction goes) to get the walking mortar thingy for the CORE.

Ohhh, very shiny!

I'll definitely have a look at some Dark Age stuff if I can find it at Salute... add another game to the ever growing list of 'stuff to see'

I believe I will be doing the same, good sir!

The miniatures are undoubtedly stunning, and have a very cool aesthetic.

Hmmm looking at those and looking at the box of outcasts I have, I can see why the ones I have were 75% off :(

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

Yeah the new models are really amazing the old ones are in dire need of being re-done.

I picked up the rules and a few minis at Christmas, just need to flesh them out I went for Kukulkani as my first faction but want most of the others. Outcast's are on my list along with the Dragyri Fire Caste.

The last 12 months worth of sculpts have been really nice and although I'm not ready to jump on board with the game yet I did order some of the minis back in October. Still waiting on them :(

I'm liking Dark Age's new aesthetic more and more with each release. One day, I'll pick up a few models just to paint and next thing you know I'll have a whole faction.

I want to like Dark Age, I really do. It's post apocalyptic with aliens and robots and stuff. My problem with it though is that it tends to be a bit too sci-fantasy for me. Thankfully, those Salt Nomads seem to be taking things more in a direction that I prefer. Hell, they might even be what actually brings me into the game. I just wish the other human factions looked as cool.

i've been collecting Dark-Age minis since 2003...
being a fan of Brom's art, i thought the original minis were amazing...
i really enjoyed the art and fluff in the original rulebooks...
after watching them struggle along for about a decade, it is really cool to see them coming on strong, and really uping their game with the new sculpts and factions...
i was already a fan, but they blew me away when they released the Kukulkani a couple of years ago, and haven't let up with the awesome minis since...

now i just need to get caught up on the fluff again...
i haven't read about the new factions since the Kukulkani were previewed in Ravage...

good to see some new people getting turned-on to this cool setting...

cheers

The latest round of sculpts are definitely what got me to make the jump.

It started with the Prevailers:

and the Salt Nomads sealed the deal...

Though this guy here:

convinced me to collect some Kukulkani too!

Dark Age started out a bit 'hit or miss' but lately?

All hits, all the time!

(More or less!)

Hi

Incredible , is more than a week i reading of dark age , and now this thread had open , coincidence?

The only problem is , for who live outside the US , even buy/find the models is complicated.

And half of the range need a resculp (half of the forsaken , all the skarrd and the brood IMHO).

It's a shame they don't release these figures in resin for those who are interested in the figures but not the game.

Yeah, I'm super glad they're getting more serious about moving away from the samey bondage fantasy look every miniature had. It was like everyone playing the same faction of BDSM fans.

The quality and variety of their latest sculpts rivals the of Infinity, but fantasy, while still keeping their gritty aesthetic.

That Cabrakan (along with some peer pressure from some friends) almost got me into Dark Age at TempleCon two years ago.

Those Prevailers are seriously gorgeous.

I think I need to avoid reading anything Alph posts about a new (to me) miniatures game. It's rough on my wallet.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

I have absolutely no idea what that is, only that it's the coolest thing I have ever seen!

So are you able to play this game with a starter/core set (the ones priced at $50?) If so I will probably pick up some of these at Salute.

Yeah you are supposed to be able to play with the starter sets, although good luck finding one of the new ones in the UK.

Wayland is the distributor for Dark Age here but never have them in stock.

Speaking of Dark Age, I just came across a stash of stuff in my FLGS's consignment case. Had to pick the stuff up. Will post some photos of what I grabbed later.
Been wanting to pick up more Draygiri as it stands.

That Cabrakan is MASSIVE. It's one of those figures that starts to stray away from the whole "miniatuer" concept.

Eventually I will one one.

I've tried to buy one two times now- both times I got snubbed by the seller. Probably just going to have to order straight from Dark Age/ CMON.

The Prevailers have also been really tempting me...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Completely agree, the Salt Nomads and Core seem like a decent place to start! Apparently it's quite difficult to get a lot of the Dark Age stuff in the UK, so be on your guard! I'll wrestle you for it all, should we cross paths at the ExCel!

Unfortunately the Archangels are out of stock. How quickly CMON resupplies?

Good question!

I'd love to get all three Archangels, but they're still at "Out Of Stock" and have been for some time now...

They Spartan-kicked me into the Dark Age well also.

I'm primarily a collector/hobbyist before I'm a gamer, but the models are cool enough that I downloaded the rules to see what it's all about. Though I still plan on purchasing some of those figures regardless and using them for something relating to my desert based SM chapter.

And I can't seem to find any of the products I want on CMON's store. Specifically, the Outcast book and the Salt Nomads from this listing: Link

i don't see what you were seeing...
the look, and the setting, has always been post-apocalyptic, not fantasy, and it has only been the Skaard who really had the S&M look...
not only that, but it the Skaard sculpts translated Brom's art quite well...
if you are not a fan of his style, that is one thing, but to say that all of the factions looked the same makes no sense to me at all...
the four original factions seemed very distinct to me...

good to hear that they are moving in a direction that appeals more to the masses...
though why so many people think that the old models need re-sculpting is beyond me...
i still love all of the Dark-Age minis i have collected over the last twelve years...

cheers

A lot of stuff in that link was available at TEMPLECON 2015 and from the CMON shop while TEMPLECON 2015 was going on.

Sadly, that time is now past, and we have to wait until they hit general release...at some unknown to me time.

I have a bad feeling that they'll be trickling out for the next few months though, so we may be waiting a while now!

I did get the Outcasts book ordered though, so I'll have that to tide me over until then.

So, while the Outcast book isn't out till next month, the rules for the new models and the revised rules for the older Outcasts have been released:

http://dark-age.com/outcasts-and-bounty-hunters-updated/

I'm a long time player and while the model quality dipped for bit around 2010-2011, its been nothing but hits lately (speaking as someone who just threw $250 at the Templecon pre-release stuff).

If you have any questions about the game plays or want to know more about a faction, let me know. Happy to help spread the good word!

Some OUTCAST releases for March - some we've seen before, but some I don't remember seeing before.

But all are fantastic!

I just wish that CMON would re-stock the Prevailer Archangels already!!!

Wow... I remember looking at this game about a year ago and the models were okay, but these are incredible. Reminds me a bit of Infinity, they kind of suddenly just hit their stride with the sculpts. Shame small games like this aren't very prevalent around my area.

Same here. Been trying to get a group to play for several years.

Hasn't happened.

Don't know if it the aesthetics, rules or what.

There is just zero interest.

Shame, spent a lot money over the years collecting them.

Yeah, the "New Generation" of sculpts got me interested, and I much prefer smaller, skirmish scale games these days too.

There's a small group of dedicated players at a store about an hour from me too - that's good enough for me!

The production values on the rulebooks is top notch too...
