Well I have two land raiders which I rarely use as they don't suit my play style very well but I have a 1000pt game tomorrow and was thinking of fielding a crusader with a pretty maxed out Command squad in it (Master/Chap/PF vet. sgt./2 flamers/6bp&ccw)

regardless of advice here I think I am going to field it just for fun but a question/thought is wouldn't it actually be better to field a LR in a smaller point value game where your opponent isn't going to field a lot of heavy anti armor weapons? Of course the whole thing is moot playing against Necrons (stupid gauss weapons) but I rarely see more than 1-2 lascannons in games of 1000pts or less.

They tend to do well against bugs as long as you keep them out of range of monstrous critters and genestealers. I always take one crusader in my 1500pt GK force.

The real answer is: when you want to. I love the look and conceptof the Land Raider, so I use it from time to time. Simple as that. You dodnt need to max out your list all the time.

I agree with Orlanth...when you want to just mess around then take whatever you want. If you really want to win dont take a LR at all because chances are that your opponent will have some kind of can opener for it. In a few fun games that I have played I used a raider crusader. Since I like to sit back and let my opponent come to me it didn't do very well but I think that if I retooled my army for the right setup it could have been devastating.

I think that a Crusader deploying furious charging lightning claw armed termies into combat would be glorious. I've never done it cuz its so many points into one unit and I don't have a Crusader or Lightning Claw termies. But it would be glorious.

Land Raiders are great to take if you want to punish someone for not taking enough tankbusting weapons. Nothing like setting it up across from his autocannons and heavy bolters and watching the despair.

Crusader with Term Chap LCs 7 Norm Termies 2 of them heavy flamers. The LRC shoots 12 bolters then 3 Assault cannon shots then the pintle SB and the MM. Termis get out fire 10 SB shots 2 Heavy Flamers and then assaults! Yeah I had it happen to me.......thats when you shake you opponents hand and go cry.

Av 14 will make anyone confident until they lose 1/4th of their points total.

Also a LR in a 1000- pt game is just you being a dick. But I guess it would be funny seeing the opponent cringe about how useless their weapons are.
