I think I'll keep this separate from my 28 thread and just run both a 15 and 28 as they come along.

Your set up always looks so nice, it makes 15mm mighty tempting. I am already determined to get into 20mm just as soon as PSC starts making it easy to do.

Thanks Piers. I've been needing some decent roads for awhile.

Hopefully my urban ruins show up soon so I can get my early winter board rolling. I'm starting to feel like I'm spamming the historical forum with pics of the same stuff.

Very inspirational Strombones, thanks for the pictures. I'm finally getting to my Flames of War 15mm stuff and I've been glancing at the Battlegroup rules with a curious eyes. How do those rules play?

Thank you!

The Battlegroup rules play well and out of all the wargames I've played over the years it is certainly my favorite. The core rules for the game are decently streamlined and pretty easy to memorize during your first encounter. Standalone supplements then layer a few extra special rules on here and there and contain theater and timeline appropriate weapons and equipment specs for the period that the book covers. All equipment is well researched and properly represented. When a Tiger's 88 contacts a Sherman, you can say goodbye to Brad Wardaddy Pitt.

The core rules are based around a morale system that forces you to draw numbered tokens/chits blindly from a bag whenever a unit is destroyed or if you need to rally pinned down soldiers. Once you reach your morale number your force has had enough and withdraws from the battlefield. While somedays this will cause your elite Waffen SS supermen to withdraw before their glorious final stand takes places, it ensures that their is no power list building.

Perhaps the best part of Battlegroup is that you will absolutely not see a phalanx of tanks using each other as side skirts.

The game scales well from a platoon sized skirmish with a vehicle or two all the way up to full company and beyond. A few squads based on pennies and a tank or two is a great place to start.

Here is a great run through by the author

Big P (dakka member above) is the co author of many supplements as well as the author of the newest early war book. Browsing his gallery will also paint a good picture of what the game is like.

I hope you try it out.

Thank you for the details. I will most certainly be trying this out, in fact, I will probably pick it up at Gen Con.

Some fantastic looking terrain there Strombones.

I like the idea of using 'scatter' of tufts of hedge around the board, were these tied down?

Also, can I ask how you did those hedges? They look great!

Thanks Pacific!

All of the clump foliage on the table is loose, but with the grass and the texture it stay in place pretty well, such much so that it can be difficult to pluck off. The hedges are the clump just lumped into rows.

How would you compare Battlegroup to Chain of Command?

I'm trying to decide what to purchase to use my new individually based 15mm's with. I was leaning towards Chain of Command since I like the idea of the fog of war element and WWPD has some good battle reports with it. I know less about Battlegroup.

Hmmm. Definitely very different games. To be honest, I own coc and have read many reports but have never actually played it. The fog of war/ patrol marker feature is indeed super cool and is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Coc is primarily platoon plus support, while BG scales from squad to batallion.

If I had to put it in short I would say Battlegroup is a rather streamlined ww2 game that seeks to capture the feel of specific theaters while players fight to break the morale of the enemy's force.

Each supplement has it's own list of equipment to choose from according to the time and place you are playing, along with some special rules that layer onto the core.

I lean toward BG but certainly see the merit in COC. Good thing about collecting WW2 miniatures is there is nothing stopping you for using them in both.

Is that a scratch build for the station or a kit?

Neat... as always. Great tables make such a huge impact.

Im running a huge BG game this year recreating the assault on Langerwehe in 1944.

I might have to look for a station...

Thanks guys. The station building is an mdf kit from impudent mortal. Everything else is just cobbled together scratch built stuff, beside the crane which I found in my bitz box and am pretty certain it is orkish in origin. I scattered around piles of industrial debris made with pegasus bricks, coffee stirrer lumber, and piles of saw dust from that goddamn wood beetle living in the roof of the shed.

Nothing makes a game as well as a decent table to fight over. Glad to have a place to share the pics with people who don't settle for soda can terrain.
