Howdy,

So, I picked up Hordes: Primal and the Circle box. I'm looking forward to the elemental constructs, and I've been thinking of scratch-building some of the Circle's teleportation stones, but I have a painting question:

How do I create that glowing rune effect (cast light) as pictured in the PP pictures?

Does anyone know of a tutorial or do any of you have first hand knowledge that you could share?

I believe that there was a White Dwarf article on the subject as well, does anyone know what issue that was?

Thanks!

coolminiornot has a few tutorials; but the bottom line seems to be it's really hard.

I've been thinking of doing this for my Thunderhead; for the electro coils that festoon it's hull.

Its painting a realistic mini.
You simulate light coming from that light source.

Take these things into account, Intensity, location, reflection, hue, and shading.
If you want your Grey rock inscribed with Green runes to glow greenish, paint the runes bright green. Then remember that this is a glow, so it wont travel far and its intensity is fairly high. Paint the area around it green, then quickly and smoothly fade out the green with more and more grey mixed in with green.

You can always look at real life too, you know. Shine a flash light on something. Now shine a red flash light on it. Whats different? I reckon its insanely annoying with a 3d model and requires a lot of real-life observation.

Oh by the way, if you have a bluish grey rock, and the runes are red, make sure the glow looks kinda purplish (Shine red light onto a blue object)

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.
