Hello and well met!

In the hope of promoting Tin Mech Workshop and motivating myself to paint more I'm starting this log.
Its kinda bizzarre for me that there are two different spaces for miniatures and terrain on this forum so please excuse me for grouping it all in this one topic.

Whan you can expect here will be:

1. Painted miniatures mainly Warmachine & Hordes
2. Terrain Ideas
3. Everything else WarmaHordes & IKRPG related.

Im a bit of a nut for all things steampunk so you can expect a big collection of miniatures from Warmachine and Hordes alike.
I know this introduction needs some work but I'll have to do for the moment.

So for now some miniatures to get this started:

Firstly groupshot:

As I did in time move away from Gamesworkshop products I have to agree that they make some great terrain for warmachine. Most of the terrain in this shot is GWs kit.

You can even see sigmars twin comet But it does not matter when theres metal being ripped apart in a steampowered frenzy. Right?

Up until now all of the terrain was painted by my friend and member of the tinmechworkshop team Tarzan.

This is my design for something like a swampy pit with water but it just as well could be just aftermath of a bile thrall purge.

Its also my paintwork.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Last time on the Tin Mech Workshop show!

We've seen some terrain. So now to change the theme we got some miniatures.

Specifically miniatures used in the trailer that you can watch by clicking my signature (wink wink *cough* shameless plug *cough*).

Ok down to buisiness:

Gorman:

Theres something appealing about a guy that just loves to chuck acid in someone face. Ever since I saw this guy I wanted to play as such a character in an rpg. Sadly never really had the ocassion during my childhood.

Stryker:

Classic model from the full metal battlegroup. Never understood why he has such a bad rep. His gun is awesome, hes got good spells and he can quicksilver you to death no problem.

Danon:

I know she kinda looks soulless without actual eyes just her whites. But Im really bad at eyes, and the risk of making her cross-eyed was to much for me to and my trembling hands.

Talon:

One of my favorite jacks. Like the idea of it. Like its cost. Hell I even got a twin brother for it in the works. But for the love of me I can't use him properly. Usually I run him with Rutger. So that he stalls some jacks and makes them easier to hit for my heavies but It rarely works out. Usualy Im in a bad place at the worst time. This makes me ashamed, its just all my fault, oh woe me.
Ok now I need a pick me up...

... speaking of a pick me up.
Im no pro but I really like how he turned out. No fancy things but I've put some time in painting this mini. The colors mesh quite nice and even the cloth looks ok.
Kriel Warrior Brogo:

Ok thats all for now.

Cheers.

Weird.
Apparently theres a problem at the hosting site with my pics.

EDIT:
voila and now it works

EDIT2:

We had terrain! We had miniatures! Now its time for...

*dum dum dum* dramatic music!

... Math!

What?

Yeah, you heard me (read me?) ! Math.

Its not perfect, you can see some spots I missed with applying sand and glue and static grass but still this is a great and realistic stone wall. Its got great weight to it. You pretty much turn into a mason. Apply glue, put down the first row of rocks like you would do while building a real wall. You can make sounds like a steam jack put down this rocks... not that I was doing it at the time... don't judge me!

Ok thats all for this instance.

Cheers.

Time for an update.
Tinmechworkshop team starter working on the actual Fools Rush in adventure for which trailer I've been shamelessly advertising (*wink* *wink* *cough* description link *cough* *cought* Jesus... this could be a serious illness *cough* ).
OK back to reality.
During filming I've decided that this epic steampowered action can be just flat. So I started building this shack:

I'm trying out making riveted metal sheets that should be the most common building blocks in major cities. Especially in industrial parts of a city like Corvis.

This is the effect so far after a days work. Unfortunetly pesky human interactions kept me from devouting the whole 24h for this task. I'll probably finish today the building part.

I'm aiming for a ramshackle downtrodden look so I think its developing nicely.

Heres a shot with some minis to show you the scale

I don't have a specialized tool to make rivets. Currently I'm using a small screwdriver and as I said I'm looking for a ramshackle looks so it suits me.

As I've got room for one more pic heres some crates I also made for this project a while back. Can you believe this has been in my brain for about two years or more? Im a bit worried that this terrain building will be a detriment for this project. But that neither here nor there.

Pro Tip:
I don't recall who was the pro that enlightend me but I'm obliged to spread his gospel especialy to people from Poland as plasticard is this mystical thing around here that we know some gods make terrain from but how to get it?
If you need building blocks for your terrain like plasticard look in your hardware store for information signs like "private property", "stay of the grass" or in my case its a large information board for construction work.

Cheers.
Pozdrówko.

Hello.
Shack attack! Its finished. At least the building part. Looks quite well.

Managed to use some left over bits from Warhammer 40k.

The rest as you can see is made by my hand so the edges aren't perfect. Maybe when I'll finally build me a CNC it'll be perfect. But hell you decide if its any good.

As it's got the theme of a Corvis docks I wanted to add some detailes like a gaff. But I couldn't find suitable bits in my collection. So I settled for building such a hook and added mountings for it.

This chimney is actually a leftover barrel of the shadowsword tank from 40k. All I had to do is shave of two skulls.

Well thats about it for now. I'll give it now to Tarzan for some painting. I'd happilly paint it myself but It will take ages and take me away from other projects.

I'm having issues with hosting pictures here at privateer forums. The albums are restricted to a set ammount of pictures as it seems. Anyone got tips how to successfully post images using gmail or maybe some other free hosting option I should look into?

Cheers.
Pozdrówko.

Hello everyone.
As I'm away from my workshop I wanted to make just a small update to this log.
If anyone is curious how the window frame was made heres a picture of coins I used for the template.

I just use a thin marker to draw the window. While its still attached to the bigger sheet of "plasticard" I make the rivets using the said screwdriver and then I just cut it out using scissors.

The most difficult part is cutting the middle. I use a dremmel for it but with enough patience you can use a hobby knife.

It aint perfect but it looks just fine for my taste.

Cheers.

insaniak: thanks for the comment, I too like it this way. Does anyone who build terrain has the notion it sometimes looks better not painted? Wonder how It'll work out. Gonna pass it down the line to Tarzans painting workshop.

Also Insaniak nice terrain projects, I especially like the use of tubbing. Don't have a reliable resource for such tubes though.

I dedicate this update to Sletchman. His tip for using gmail for hostin works.

It is kinda finnicky but it works.

So heres the leader for my Sea Dog Crew who are secretly Thamarite Cultists!

Sletchman:

These instructions are for Chrome, but the process should be similar with Firefox, or another browser of your choice.

You can create a folder in your Google Drive (comes with gmail), and set it to "anyone can find and view". Then just upload to inside that folder (it'll default to anyone can view the images).

To put the images in the forum, simply right click and click "get link", then copy that link and paste it into the address bar of your browser. After loading the image, it will show up in edit mode, from here just right click and click "Open image in new tab". This will load the raw image. Then you can copy that address into the forum with the [ img ] tags.

Kinda fiddly, and a little tedious, but it works. It's what I do, and has like 15 gig of storage, so I'm not likely to run out of room (plus free from an email provider that most people have anyway, and even if you don't it's not exactly hard to make a random account).

You can shorten the ordeal a bit, instead of clicking "open image" just use "copy image address" and just insert it in the IMG tag.

Cheers and thanks for this solution.

EDIT: So yeah, the pics just didn't show after a while. Lets see how long this fix will hold... ;/
EDIT2: It held about 2mins... Round 2. How does it look now?
EDIT3: I give up. Pics keep dissapearing. Uploaded via the usual way using ppress forum.

Hello.
Nope. Firstly starting the TinMechWorkshop I made the youtube account ergo gmail. So I tried using gmails applications for posting but to no success. Privateer forums as I'm primarily Warmachine oriented now was a no brainer for me and they gave me the options of posting them.
And then as I always loved dakka forums (the inner green machine - still got some orks...) so I wanted to also post here some of my doodas.
Well I think I'm just gonna stick around to the old ways until I will make my own site for hosting purposes.

It just makes me furious that the tools are out there, gmail was pestering me for ages to use them and now when I could really use it it does not work for me ...

Oh well thats life for ya.

You can attach pics directly to your posts here on Dakka, if you want to avoid the linking issues.

You can also upload them to the Dakka Gallery and the Gallery software conveniently gives you the link code to post them on the forum... Although attaching to your post here in the Blogs section automatically adds them to the Gallery as well, so just attaching them is quicker and easier.

Hello all. Time for a small update.

This is a small project that was banging around in my brain for a while. Its WIP statue of Saint X from menoth. Anyone got a suggestion who is he?

I had one extra body of a flameguard temple leader. So I added a weapon from the warhammer range and stuck him to a custom cast base.

Cheers.

PS:
Thanks for the suggestion but I'll stick with pp forums for now untill I'll set up my own hosting.

Well now this sure took a while.

So I've been busy (lazy) and didn't post too much. Works on the IKRPG have been postponed for a while. Lighting issues and less time on our hands.

If anybody still wants to see some tabletop goodies I'll try to post more frequent.

OK enough talk.

The metal shack has been painted finally and as it seems I can now host picutres on my site.

Here goes:

So far so good. My hosting appears to work correctly. So on with more pics:

Some more shack pics:

So on my agenda I got still that menoth themed sculpture to complete and something special.

The question is: What do you do when you got some extra stat cards for units you got no models? *wink wink* Comming soon!

@home_brew : Thanks for the kind words. I got a bunch of ideas. Just not enough time and motivation to finish them I am weak :(

Speaking of doing some work done:

Hello there all lovers of steam and magic.

I've managed to finish another stage in building the Menoth Statue terrain piece.

I did all by hand cutting the groves so it would look like stones placed by a semi-competent craftsman. What can I say, I'm only human...

You ever have that notion that you have to buy a miniature? Well this pretty gal is one of those. I originaly bought for use in RPGs but lately she's been promoted to a Khadoran Manhunter Solo (got some extra cards laying around)
But wait. Theres more.

On the right we got another beautiful mini. Hes gonna be probably my Yuri the Broadsword for Khador (See what I did there?) The chick is something other. Probably will be my warlock for the surprise mini I said a while back. Or I wanted to say something and forgot. All in all neither of them would like that bile purging...

Unfortunately lately I pickup minis from my collection from factions I don't actually play and painted them up. At the same moment my halberdiers still lack proper bases ...

Some more pics of the gal:

I'm semi-happy how the paint worked out. I think I used to much of the GW's agrax wash. I usually over do it on women models don't know why. Or maybe this batch of agraxes is thicker...

Well all in all she looks fine. Theres also a topless variant of this model but this one is sexy and dangerous.

Added some broken pieces and sand.

I've got a dillema how to paint this thing up. I'll probably prime it in black. The sculpture at the top will be some kind of metalik. But the stone I got no idea. Was thinking about some white marble and sandy stones around it. But it will stand out on our green battlefield. So probably I'll go with gray stones.

Any ideas?

Cheers, pozdrówko

Hello. Thanks for the kind words.

I bought an old box of 6man temple flameguard at my countries version of ebay. And it had an extra temple flame guard leader model.
The great support at Privateer press sent me the missing grunt and then I was left with this model.
So I turned it into a sculpture for the glory of menoths soldiers.

Cheers.

Well hello there it is done.
I managed to complete this derelict statue. I call it Olaf Izdain - Flameguard Sovereign

Well its a good a name as any I suppose. Its the only Flameguard related candidate I found that sounds decent.

Here flanked by two exemplar soldiers that I'm slooooowly working on.

Some detail.

Im pretty much happy how the stone floor came out. But the pedestal. I don't know. Its decent I guess.

I think that my technique I use for the minis does not work to good on big scenery pieces

Oh well what do you think? Decent or should it be reworked?

Thanks, yeah it turned out well. But I'll admit it takes ma little to long painting terrain in general.

As and update:

Hello !

Well it took a lot of time, effort and willpower (mainly to overcome my laziness) to start working on my Rhulic jack which I got I think 6months ago at a quarter price.

The avalanche cometh!

Of course this is only work in progress.

But there is one noticeable feature which took the most time.
Theres this picture:

Notice anything interesting?

How about now?

Yeah thats right. It might not be terrible original but still magnetising your jack is awesome. When it goes correctly you can make some interesting jack configurations.
Also when something is in the way you can pop an arm of or something. I sure am sorry I didn't magnetize the tusks on my skorne gladiator warbeast. Oh well you live and learn.

Cheers.

Well heres a random update.

Its been some time since my supply of "proper" basing sand from games-workshop. It was gifted to me by a friend and up until know it served its purpose. In

the end it is only sand. And people tend to buy it from miniature shops paying to much.

Why am I telling you about it? Well its better to just use what you can find on the side of the road. Maybe in big cities its hard to come by but this is

what I gathered from my country asfalt road:

Its ok, but when glued to the base makes it a bit too rocky. Its fine if you want that effect. But I usually use it to simulate dirt. So I made myself this

simple tool to separate small sand material and bigger rocks.

Nothing special or hard to do. Just used the packaging for Privateerpresses blisters and made some holes. You could buy the tool but hey I got tonns of these

plastic containers and its free. Also works well as seen below.
In the end I got some good sand.

And rocks that I can use when needed.

Cheers.

As a parting gift to all of you Warmachine-lovers:

Time for an update.

So are there any fans of this movie?

Well I'm a big fan and so is my sister. So I started this project of a diorama to make this as a gift for her.

This is a mock up, now I need some undead. As for now I need to buy some more undead maybe from GW or Mantic. 3-4 skeletons, maybe on zombie to mix it up.

The minis that would represent Ash and his babe are from hasslefree Miniatures : www.hfminis.co.uk

For now it took about 2h to make this first take of the diorama. Need some proper base, some glass cover maybe some lights.

Cheers

Well its been quite some time but still I draw breath.
And I got some miniatures painted.

I know what you all, I mean all two of you think. Need to get some better lighting or better yet some kind of stage for making pics.
Am gonna work on it.
Any laughs? It cracks me up. I've only painted this lonely guy from my squad for this shot

Its a sample of bog terrain I intend to build. I'm aiming for a large base thas only shallow, bog water and these bases with some foliage will be added to make it a boggy forest. Taken completely off can be played as shallow water, with bases a forest or even forest with shallow water.

I did mention a while ago I was making an alternate minion beast pack for use in my Warmachine matches. This little fellow will be Snapjaw. Still work in progress, missing its rider. Disemboweled Troll can be a scary sight thats why its gonna be Wronge Eye and Snapjaw not Rorsh & Brine.

That is all for now.

Cheers.

Moving on to the good part.

As I said Im working now on the alternative Snapjaw & Wrongeye.

I've glued on the rider as you can see. And as she is a beutiful sculpt Im afraid my painting skills will not do her justice.

The quality of the pics is a bit better courtesy to the weekend sun.

Hello.
Time for another update.

I've finally completed the task of magnetizing my friends Cryx jacks.

I always like to see army equipment magazines showing all the parts and weapons that can be added to a fighter jet or gunship. So its blatantly obvious why I made this picture.

I always try to magnetize my warjacks in the same way so that between all my jacks of all factions the parts are interchangeable. So these are some of the combination that I made.

The biggest problem were the soul transference shatfs of Erebus or the Malices wailing souls.

As the parts are to small and delicate I didnt use magnets for them. Just pinned them and inserted into drilled holes in the jacks armor.

I think I just might glue these parts down and just run those jacks as normal jacks with swapping out heads and weapons. A normal slayer with Erebuses loin cloth does look sweet.

Well thats all for now.

Cheers.

Well then time for another update.
As I had some time at hand so I worked on this baby.

Its probably one of the only miniatures for light warjacks of a khadors heritage. If anybody read the short story about Khadors Butcher he'll know what a Laika laborjack is. Don't know if Laikas are actually light warjacks but it is a name fitting for this model.

Its gonna be used mainly for dioramas and if I'll have some more motivation in the future in IKRP sessions.

If anybody is curious the model comes from a boardgame GRIND.
I've managed to magnetize the arms so that there will be no problem swapping out weapons.

The game is quite good and it is a plentiful source of cheap warjacks. I'll post later size comparison of jacks if anybody is curious.
I had good fortune of being able to buy it for a fraction of the cost.

Cheers.

Hello steampowered maniacs.

As I already promised here a few images showing size comparison of jacks you could aquire if you bought the GRIND boardgame.

As you can see theres the named by me Laika jack and something more cygnar like flanking a Menoth Repenter.

As you can see the size is exact. So its perfect for some cheap IKRPG or regular Warmachine play.

Only problem is the material thats a bit rubbery but theres no problem to magnetize it and paint it up. I'll post some of the painted up models when I'll finally get something done.

Cheers.

Hello.
Time for another update.
So far so good on my weekly posting of something.

Managed to fight my lazy gene and finished some models.

Here we can see murdock being assaulted by Avalancher and one of the Cutthroats.

You remember this guy? All magnetised and all? Well its been a long time but I did manage to end this beast.

In theory hes gonna be awesome with Thors "Tune Up" -> everything gets boosted dmg under the template.

Still am on the fence about his shield arm.
At the moment its not glued on. Was thinking about some kind of pin to help keep it in place.

Thats all folks.
