Like many players I've been intrigued by the image of the chaos wheel where Slaaneshi's familiar symbol is replaced by a new one. After all for most 10 and 12 year old the purchaser is a parent not the child and you have to make sure mom and dad are OK. Which is why the Chaos warriors in the starter set are so toned down and sedate. You can tell they went to great -pains to ensure there was nothing on the figures mommy and daddy might object to.

Rumor has it that with AoS reaching for a more mass audience GW realized that the hermaphodic god/goddess of wanton excess, pleasure and debauchery is perhaps not as family friendly as a Blood God covered in skulls, a rotting bloated plague god corrupting the living with his foul flesh-rotting illnesses and a god of madness and magic who twists bodies, minds and reality itself like wet clay.

Yeah, certainly no room for boobies in that family friendly bunch.

So then, who might the new, family friendly, fourth Chaos God be?

I have some ideas.

I expect Slaanesh is being rebooted via the fluff (as s/he probably sells the least of the four).

Probably taking her/his title of Dark Prince quite figuratively.

The Son of Sigmar. The Omen. The Dark Prince.

He'll snatch the Sigmarites who've lost their humanity through constant resurrection.

I'd be surprised if they removed slaanesh. Bear in mind that Khorne has got a lot less family friendly in Age Of Sigmar - the Bloodreavers (Khul's Marauder scouts) are cannibals as well as psychotic axe-murderers, and the novella is fairly graphic about the fact.

Expect all factions to get a reworking and you may get less of the secondary female characteristics, but I'd be surprised if they dropped Slaanesh entirely. Corruption and Betrayal is still a big part of the background - note that the Age Of Myth fell apart because of some as-yet-unexplained catastrophic betrayal (presumably starting or culminating in someone opening a realmgate to the Realm of Chaos), which is the sort of thing Slaanesh may have inspired.

At the same time, there is a mention of 'Lord Tyrion' trying to attack slaanesh, so it's possible slaanesh isn't about. In which case, the obvious other one to point at would be the Horned Rat. I'd expect them to keep the classic heraldry, though.

The symbol looks a lot like Malekith's or Morathi's crown. I wonder if one of them overthrew or replaced Slaanesh. I'm not sure that would make the 4th god any more family friendly.

The AOS fluff booklet has a bizarre mix of graphic violence and child-friendly welcoming text. It feels like the fluff in the book was written by one team while another team developed a sales brochure, and then management told them to fit it together--and make sure to use these key phrases from the marketing department! It's a real kludge.

GW will not be making hot female anythings. It's not their style.

All joking aside, it's a good bet it will be Lannsleesh. Of course, Lannsleesh will be called Slaanesh in all the GW books.

As I say in the other thread, I want to see more greed for Slaanesh troops. Give me golden armored Sigvald-esque warriors that look glorious to behold but are twisted and rotten at the core.

Give me pirate marauders, wrapped in the fineries of the world that they took by any means necessary.

Someone did a unit of resplendent Slaaneshi Chaos Warriors. I'll see if I can track down the pic.

The symbol is very reminiscent of Khaine, so who knows anymore.

Also apparently Slaanesh still exists, s/he's just... missing.

So many games, so little time.

So many models, even less time.

Screw it, Netflix and chill.

Those models are fabulous, I have a daemon prince of Slaanesh painted up similarly.

I think it will just be Slaanesh coming back as a slightly different and more family/IP supportive version. Of course that latter bit is from GW's perspective.

Just to summarize the 'family-friendlly'-ness in US culture (not sure how similar/different we are from Europe in this category)
-Any amount of violence is fine, so long as you don't see the gore
-Any amount of gore is fine for teens or older, as long as you know it isn't real
-Anything so much as a broken bone is only fit for a mature audience if it is real
-Any public showing of a female nipple or genitals of either gender is completely unacceptable
-As long as the above are covered, any amount of sexuality is permissible
-Any amount of sexuality is also distasteful

That should be the gist of it, though I may have missed a few points.

Looks like Morathi's crown to me...I think they just changed the symbol, I don't really see any non-conjured evidence that they've ditched a god. Hell, Slaanesh is even mentioned in the AoS starter booklet.

I still don't understand why people think slaanesh is gone. Tyrion only went to attack her, it was even deemed ill conceived and she was at that point glutted on the souls she had just consumed, so at the apex of her power.

From the descriptions I've read of shadows in the chaos realm perhaps Belakor has taken this chance to rise.

(1) the symbol of Slaanesh is missing (and replaced with something else) from the chaos star in the book that came with the AoS starter set and (2) excerpts from the campaign book coming out next week talk about Slaanesh being missing.

OK, didn't see the chaos symbol in the book from the box set. Must have missed it. Didn't someone have a blurb about some fair damsel chilling with sigmar that sometimes has two shadows? Everyone loves her, listens to her advice, feels better about themselves when she's around, has 6 boobs...

meh to tell the truth, I doubt they would fully get rid of slaanesh, he is just missing and a missing god is better than a dead one :/ the fact that his followers remain is a good sign, I also never liked him, he was always boring if you ask me and in the world of war he never made any sense.. but then again the horned rat is very close to nurgle at this point, I hope he is more than just

Slaanesh is missing, not gone, not dead. Its made pretty clear that hisher throne is sitting empty and that hisher followers are currently very active. Nothing in that is indicative of Slaanesh being replaced. As for the Horned Rat, it makes it pretty clear that he ascended the pantheon but he isn't accepted by the others, i.e. - he hasn't replaced Slaanesh.

Personally, I believe that the "Slaanesh and the Great Horned Rat get busy and make a daemon goat-rat baby" theory is where this is headed.

Why did they decide the Great Horned Rat should be a god when from that description he sounds like a mix of two of the other gods.

Blight and Pestilence were part of Nurgle, Treacherous Plots and all that sound like Tzeentch.

I though Tzeentch was more on the magic side instead of plots for fantasy

As to Nurgle? i dunno theres a lot of overlap :/
