Low Gothic is represented by English. Since Orks speak Cockney English, they must speak some form of Cockney Gothic.

We know Orks have their own language(s). So Orks must've learnt Gothic somehow. Obviously, the Imperium does not give them lessons.

We must assume that the Imperium has its own version of chavs and cockneys.

Humans like to watch TV right? IN the 40k universe the only way to distribute programmes planet-to-planet is via shipping, not the internet or the airwaves.

I suppose Orks learn to speak Gothic by raiding these human vessels and watching human TV. And they happen to raid the Cockney part of the Imperium, or somehow most of their bootleg human TV comes from there, and that's how Orks picked up the accent.

Orks do indeed have their own language. The stories Engine of Mork and Evil Sun Rising are both written in translated Ork rather than the traditional 'Orks speaking low gothic.' While some of the typical nuances are seen, those among ork society that consider themselves "high class" (mainly Deathskulls and Bad Moons) speak in a somewhat more posh manner.

They learned to speak English by listening to American TV and radio, like you are supposing the orks did.

They sound like English soccer hooligans from the 1980s because that's what they're based on. It's done because it's funny, nothing more.

Most Orks probably don't even speak their Low Gothic variant, cuz they don't really want to talk to 'oomies, just smash them. Many probably lack the intelligence to learn it. Only the Big Bad Important Orks and Blood Axes have any reason to learn Gothic. Their accent could be a combination of the fact that Orks are not very diligent students and their vocal cords being different from ours (just spitballing here).

From my notebook of random fanon ramblings:

Orks speak a form of Low Gothic due to the tiniest bit of psychic diffusion happening between their Waaagh! and the Warp, so they are able to speak and write the most widely-spoken language in the Imperium, even if not very well. The Eldar subconsciously decipher almost any language, spoken or written, through a mixture of mind-reading, psychic prediction, and sheer intelligence (although this is not always instantaneous) and can use magic to project their voices to be understandable to almost any sapient species (not as in speaking in their minds, though; this is why they can talk to, say, Tau). The Tau have highly sophisticated translation technology, as do the Necrons (though the Tau need to study a language for some time before they can crack it). The Imperium itself has a wide variety of languages, but Gothic is the "spoken word of The Emperor" or whatever, so its teaching is enforced, even if only as a second or third language in some places.

Also, my fanon is that there is a connection between Orks, Tau, Eldar and humans; possibly Old One or ancient Eldar dabbling (obviously the Orks and Eldar were both created by the Old Ones, so they're sort of cousin races). My Eldar have theories about this. It's why everyone shares the same rough body plan and they all have very similar psychology.

No, they learned to speak, and got their love of violence, from watching the back-catalogue of EastEnders.

Orks have been around since the War in Heaven, so it's around 60 million years. The had to communicate somehow during that long time. Just open the codex, there is a picture of the orkish glyphic writing system (writing comes after language, never before). We even have some rky words there: wazza - quick, wurr - strange/weird, snik - cut/kill, zag - lightning and so on.

orks could have reached a human civilisation with different classes who spoke different accents. Naturally the orks chose the accent of the humans they viewed as the best.

I know it doesn't make much sense but this is the best I could come up with as a in game explanation.

Orks had their own language for eons both oral and written. There's been many cases of Orks speaking the human language as well. Some seem to learn the human tongue pretty fast. Ghazzy was speaking Gothic to Yarrick when on Golgotha just after his first war on Armageddon. Since he had no prior wars with humans before I'd say it didn't take Ghazzy long to figure it out.
