First, official, trailer for the new AMC series based on the comic books "Preacher".

Premieres in 2016

http://www.amc.com/shows/preacher/video-extras/amc_prch_promo_worldpremieretrailer

Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper, Agent Carter), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun, This Is England) embark on a journey to, literally, find God.

Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy = Gold! That was a fantastic choice for that role!

I am less than convinced that Preacher will translate well to TV, especially American TV. The subject matter alone is going to positively enrage a lot of powerful people. I wonder if the ending will stay the same?

Having just checked up on the plot line to hazard a guess... Yes. People would totally rage about that story line XD So the question is will AMC have the balls to say "screw you I have creative license"

Yeah, I am a pretty big fan of the books, but I don't see how they can do more than a passingly okay job at this on TV. Like a lot of the stuff is just going to be too much.

Better than one thought it might be , and casting looks good.

... don't think there's any way in hell they can pull off some of the more extreme story elements.

Who the heck do you get to play Jody and TC ?

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

If it isn't HBO/Showtime/Starz at least it's AMC. We saw the preview and I think all of the recent Emmy winning shows combined with the powerhouse that is the Walking Dead (which is fairly extreme if a little toned down for TV) means that we could have a solid show on our hands.

Granted I haven't read the comics and am coming at this cold. So it might enrage a bunch of comic book fans but still be a show the uninitiated like myself might enjoy quite a bit. Plus I like the actors involved.

Or Herr Starr or the Saint, I wonder if his full storyline will feature?

I hope that this stays quite close to the comics but in reality I just don't see how they could. Just imagine the gigantic gak storm that the Jesus bloodline (golden child? its been years since I read Preacher) would cause.

My wife has been completely put of this by the 'Darby magill' accept that the guy doing Cassidy has, understandable.

It'll be fine.

Remember, Seth Rogan is one of the Producers and he stated that the AMC folks gave him license to do what he needs.

The Saint story shouldn't be too hard... 2 episodes at the most to fill in his back story.

Honestly, with all the shocking subject matters on TV these days, it won't garner any more controversy, then say 'American Horror Story' or even 'Sons of Anarchy'.

Supernatural is a basic cable show that has pretty much made a mockery of the Christian faith and it's on it's 11th season. Like I said, I don't know the story lines
Spoiler:
but even killing god
isn't something people would get that concerned about. It's not basic cable and it's not going to be advertising to much on basic cable so it'll be fine.

People really get more worried about this kind of thing than they need to be.

Let's hope so.

Spoiler:

One suspects though the idea that Jesus' inbred descendant is kept in a cage and throws his own waste at people might raise something of a furore.

.. wonder what they'll do with regards to Arseface ?

make-up etc would all be easy enough to do, but obviously Cobain's death is no longer a recent/semi recent event.

Easy enough to replace him with a factious alternate one supposes.

be intrigued to see if the Sexual Detectives make the cut

.... really cannot wait to see what they do with Odin Quincannon too

Well, yeah, I mean, an on-again/off-again romance between two brothers could be considered a mockery of the Christian faith, I guess.

I think they actually nailed Arseface pretty well.

I imagine there will be some stories that get cut out, like the sex detectives.

I hope they leave out the whole Meatman story as well, that wasn't the best.

I am hoping for the Saint to still play a part in the story because he was so crucial to wrapping it up.

Hopefully in season 3 or 4. This isn't a series that can last as long as TWD.

It sounds strange, granted. But the story from a-to-z is great.

The characters are well developed and add a lot to making this one of the best comic book series to have been written.

Its also very dark, often darkly funny, but some of the character arcs are tragic; not least JCs backstory. At least it does plausibly explain why he can kick the gak out of special forces goons.

I may have to re-read my Preachers.

Hope they fold in the Saint's origin from his miniseries.

Bit when the devil and Angel of Death are playing cards and then hell freezes as the Saint rides in

I found the Preacher comics to be nothing shy of atrocious. A textbook example of horrible, lazy writing.

The show, from everything I've seen, looks like it won't be a faithful adaptation at all, so maybe there's hope.

W Earl Brown's going to be in it, too, which means I have to at least give it a shot.

Fortunately, my expectations are so low, it shouldn't be hard to pleasantly surprise me.

His guns were forged in Hell with the metal of the Angel of Death's sword. They never miss and are always fatal. The Saint himself is basically the Angel of Death and is God's instrument of death and punishment. Since God is generally considered to be omnipotent and ominscient, one could argue that God used the Saint to commit suicide by allowing it (both the creation of the Saint and the actual act) to happen.

I hope they do the comic justice and this trend of making good comic adaptions continues as it has with the walking dead.

Who knows maybe they will do a nice adaptation of The Boys too.
