Black Templars. Playing Black Tide, via Land Raider assault, deepstriking dreadnoughts, etc.

What would you consider a very handy HQ choice for them? Atm I'm taking an Emperor's Champion, due to him giving my main opponent a very sore bum-bum every time he's fielded.

With Black Tide you want to make your CC units attacks count, especially on the charge so I think Chaplain Grimaldus would be a good start. From what I remember he dropped in points quite a lot and the 6" Zealot bubble will definitely help keep you in the fight as well as make those crusader squads hit a lot harder. The only issue is having to clump closer together to get bonuses but he's still more cost efficient than having multiple chaplains in each squad.

Depending on how big your game is you could even just take him as a pure support HQ and give him some cenobyte servitors, load him up in a Rhino/Razorback and stay within a 6" range of your land raiders to give them Zealot and FNP since these buffs work as long as one model from each unit of crusader squads are in range.

I second Grimaldus, though without the retinue. Even without it he is VERY undercosted for what he does. Also consider upgrading one of your land raiders with the Battle of Signus Prime legacy of glory, as it gives any friendly units that start their movement phase within 6in of it furious charge until the end of the turn. Combining that with possible rage from BT chapter tactics and Grimaldus' zealot bubble and suddenly those crusader squads become a lot scarier.
