Hi, I'm fairly new to 40k (running an all Tzeentch DoC), so I was hoping that you guys could apply some experience to my take on pink horrors.

I figure that it's better to cast Change spells with other units (higher BS, everyone has flickering fire), but most things have better spells to roll for.
So take a herald, give him a Change mind bullet (going for the low AP stuff, depending on what I'm facing) and use the horrors as a meat shield for him and to roll on malefic. This means that the low BS horrors get a shot at producing heralds (for shooting of whatever powers the situation calls for) or pushing a cursed earth bubble out of whatever they're hiding in.

Will this approach work and/or what are the better ideas?

Pink Horrors generate a lot of Warp Charge, and you use that to summon more Pink Horrors. Just more and more! So even though your opponent is killing stuff, your total army strength never really goes down, while your opponent's does. You then win by having guys on all the objectives. Excess warp charge is channelled into a few Deathstar units that use psychic powers to buff themselves up immensely, giving you some hitting power where you really need it too.

Pink horrors are good for hiding behind LoS terrain. Move them out in movement phase, shoot mind bullets in psychic phase, then run them back behind cover in shooting phase...

Also good for summoning Daemoms that summon daemons that summon daemons that summon daemons.... Etc.

You can't just look at their combat effectiveness. The value in Pink Horrors is that they're a cheap source of warp charges, and you can take a lot of them (Grey Knights are the only other army that has access to psychic Troop Choices). It enables very psychic-heavy lists, since your pink horrors can acts as psychic batteries.

They're also a decent choice for camping objectives - they get a re-roll for their saves, so they're moderately tougher than other Daemon troops (with the exception of Plaguebearers).

I don't like to use horrors for flickering fire etc. Due to the annoying warpflame rule. I prefer to use them as backfield support units, ideally sitting in some ruins camping on an objective. Pros in this situation are:

They provide a cheap source of warp charges
Act as warp charge batteries for your more offensive units
Surprisingly resilient in ruins as they can go to ground for a 3+ cover save, re rolling 1s
Count towards your mandatory troop choices at the same time and gain obsec
Can summon other units through malefic powers, suffering perils isn't usually a big deal as you may only lose 1 horror
Screamers are a good summoning choice from backfield horrors as they can turbo boost straight away to get into the action and claim objectives etc.

Change power.....ewwwww such a horrible chart.

Pink Horrors on the otherhand, so awesome! I just want to reinforce what everyone here is saying, they rock cause of warp charges and summoning! Go summon and see all you can do with all those warp charges!

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

Change power can be pretty sweet sometimes. I mean, an AP2 beam? That isn't half bad, you never know when you need some ap2 and ap1.

So I might be able to pick up 20 Pink Horrors on the cheap, bringing my current total to 30. Would the best bet be to run them in squads of 16 and 14 to get WC3 and WC2 respectively? Is there any bonus to 2 squads of 15?

Run them in 2 squads of 11 for the 2 WC and summon away. If I ever roll possession I will sometimes sacrifice the units for a greater daemon.

Pink horrors are batteries. hehehe. and hey why not, they can squelch loudly on top of objectives too.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Other than spending spare points to get some extra wounds (so losing 1 horror does not cost a warp charge), more horrors is not the best thing for more warp charges.
It costs 99 points to get the horror unit and 45 points to get to the next warp charge. Rather take the 45 points and get a herald which needs only 25 points for the next warp charge (or add to your greater daemon or prince).

I agree with the other guys, run 2 squads of 11. I often then add an ML3 herald to one or both units; so you can potentially have 10WC for less than 400pts.

What you could do then is give one of the heralds the portalglyph, deploy it asap and use it to bring in the rest of your horrors in small squads, further boosting your WC. Even if the portalglyph just spawns a 1 horror unit it still provides an extra WC.

Pink Horrors used to be a great source of dakka. These days they basically just exist to sit around and generate warp points and summon.
