It will probably be the absolute last release. Codices that already saw updates to 7th, such as BA and SW will probably get updates before CSM.

A codex (soon)? Or a codex that rivals 3.5 codex(never)?

My gut instincts are telling me next year we'll probably see something close to;
Tyranids
Guard
Wolves or BA's
Chaos Daemons

If Chaos Marines come, I don't think it'll be much before May'ish. And if past trends are anything to go by, GW will fix none of our current issues and the only model releases we'll see will be Khorne & possibly Nurgle themed units.
And of course, no new kit for Havocs, because our current one is more than sufficient for us worthless hive scum.

Im actually hoping that they don't do chaos this quarter. And before the torches come alit: I think this because of what the new quarter is looking for codexes. The new Tau layout of just being FAQ: the codex with a couple new model releases is perhaps the laziest I have seen for GW, rivaling the last tyranid/ork/Deldar books. If chaos was done in a similar fashion it would likely mean another daemonkin book with no changes to the units in it, add a new Greater daemon, and still have overcosted options. Aka another 6th edition book, again again

I honestly hope most of all for a re-do of our basic model line... We're still without plastic heavy weapons, which is purely criminal at this point. Our basic infantry and especially our Termie kits are absolutely unplayable due to the fact they're missing 50% or more of their options, etc...
New, refurbished & properly updated kits for Chaos Marines, Havocs, Terminators & Chosen would mean we'd see new weapon options, and thus, can finally pull our basic options out of 3rd edition and into 7th.

Just compare the basic Special/Heavy weapon sections of Chaos vs. Loyalist to see how neglected we've become:

Chaos options = Flamer, Meltagun, Plasma gun/ Heavy bolter, Autocannon, Missile launcher, Lascannon.
Loyalist options = Flamer, Meltagun, Plasma gun, Grav gun/ Heavy bolter, Heavy flamer, Multi-melta, Missile launcher, Plasma cannon, Grav cannon, Lascannon.

We just can't compete when we've only got half the available options nowadays!

As an Ork player, I saw the entiriety of 6th go by and codex after codex got updated ahead of orks and I was left in the cold.

And then I got my new codex.

While I feel for CSM right now because they keep getting passed up, and I read a rumor that nids/IG are coming out early next year, here's my advice:

Be careful what you wish for.

I always assume never. Worked for 7th/8th ed brets and 8th ed skaven / beastmen!

Anything else is a pleasant surprise (or unpleasant as case may be ).

CSM have great models. That counts.

Chaos can use others models too. Battle of Calth is full of chaos models.

About a week before 8E, or whenever GW has a sudden stock hemorrhage.

I say there will be a chaos AOS release before the end of the year/beginning of next year. I don't think CSM will be update ultil at least Q2-Q3 of next year as the new rumors point to Feb being a nids-am campaign.

Gw treatment is near criminal at this point for an army that is just as popular as vanilla marines according to dakka polls.

The only way this would be remotely justifiable is if / when the new csm book comes much of the model line is also redone and the rules are extremely well written and competitive in the current meta at the time of release.

The current book on its own compared to others is basically laughable.

Tyranids are rumored for January, with Guard + a new campaign book following shortly afterwards. I do agree though that the earliest we could possibly see our regurgitated pile of garbage and our typical 1 crappy kit update (which will be Berserkers), would be late Q2.

At this point, I'm putting my expectations so low that even GW's typical neglect can't beat them!

I'm setting my expectations quite high. Whether or not I spend any more money on gw largely depends on the chaos codices and their execution. If they continually ignore one of their most popular factions, and then update it and leave it gak like it is now, I just can't support it. It would be like giving your adult son money when you know he's just gonna burn it on blow and cheese doodles and then not talk to you for 4 years.

Chaos release would make mad coin for gw. I don't know what they're thinking. If the csm codex came out and was competitive and fluffy they would have access to about 1500 of my dollars. As it is now, they have 0 for csm related purchases. And I'm not even close to the only person who would drop cash like that.

If csm wasn't a joke, it would be good for the game overall. There's alot of csm players who don't touch their models, or play with them and continually get beaten. The more codices get updated to the 7.5 power level, the more challenge the big 3 will get, and the more engaging the game experience will be as a whole.

Speculating is so ridiculous, you don't know, and until it comes out and theres actually rules in your hand or in a white dwarf why even consider rumors. Just sit back, paint your gak and wait for it to happen. Getting hopped up about something that's not tangible is a waste of energy you could allot to your current forces.

I will continue to work on painting my 9 metal Oblitorators with the expectation that I will have a good formation to use them in.

Same here. I have bought so far this year, a couple codices and a box of the new Devastators. That's it. I've got more than enough for my Daemons, with the only things I'm looking to add currently being the new plastic Greater Daemons. (and I want the LoC first, since I'm a devout Tzeentchian!)

Currently I'm just saving up my twoonies on the hope that GW finally gives us our long-awaited due... If they do it right, and overhaul our frankly disgustingly out of date model line, I'll drop serious coin. (again, like $750-1000 or so - in TWOONIES!! *insert evil laugh*)
If we yet again get a single updated kit and a pile of gak we don't need instead of actual options and access to our basic unit upgrades, I'm through. I'll look elsewhere to get my supplies and just keep my current Daemons as a playable army.

One can only enjoy painting the same 15+ year old model line for so long... I want new toys to build and paint. Or rather, I want to be able to build my units using actual Chaos Marine kits, instead of being forced to cannibalise Loyalist crap, because GW is too ****ing lazy to even put our basic upgrade options within our own kits!

I'm also really sick of converting up Autocannons & building plasma guns... I've don't that for over 15 years now! I want some Heavy flamers and our own unique toys for once.

Oh I totally understand what you mean, even though I haven't been in the business for nearly as long I've gotten a lot of stuff from online and done conversions and kit bashings and felt the pewter pain. I'm just saying, at least for me, that its easier to not get excited about something until there is a solid on paper proof of it coming out. All these rumors are a waste, maybe its a military thing but nothing should be counted on until its guaranteed. But if you don't get excited about stuff you cant get disappointed.

Tzeentch tells me in January. Or was it July? It should have happened yesterday. But it might be in a couple of years. The voices say soon, but soon is relative. Let's just call the whole thing off.
