Today I looked for some FW upgrade sprues. I figured that they might be one of the top best selling FW products so I clicked Horus herecy -> Best sellers

Best selling model

The Warlord Titan followed by more titans the fellblade. Would that really be their best selling models or is it just an other trick to convince us to not miss out on buying expensive stuff.

I'm sure the Mars Alpha Pattern Warlord Titan is their Best Seller in the Mars Alpha Pattern Warlord Titan category.

Well they have sold at least a hundred Warlords last I checked.

It may go by total gross sales rather than by units sold, which would result in a bias towards the big showy models rather than the cheap upgrade packs and generic stuff.

A "best seller" is a product that sells out faster than you can replace it. The Warlord meets that description.

Warlords are made to order. You can't replace warlords because there were none in stock to begin with.

My guess would be they go by gross sales rather than by units.

It's like a 3D film winning the box office, partially because it costs more to see.

This makes perfect sense as the best sellers on the GW site etc are always the expensive bundles or products. Never the thing everyone would need a bunch of that would actually sell more units. It's not entirely fake, but it's really just another marketing tool to help push more sales on those big products.

They had stock at least at one point. At the event where they first revealed it they brought a pile of them, and they were sold out almost immediately.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I know a guy that bought one of the first ones and according to him they made an initial batch to satisfy the first wave of demand. After that point it is all made to order. Again I'm just saying what I heard from my friend.

You realise that the best sellers result is sorted by price, high-to-low by default?

So the warlord could be the 14th best-selling item?

Also, since the reaver and warhound bodies are on the list but the arms aren't it's clearly best sellers by revenue rather than by units shipped.

When I followed the link the results were sorted by 'Recommended', not price.

And recommended is price high-low. (which is also the recommended order throughout the FW and GW sites)

Unless you're suggesting that it's organised by best selling and that just happens to be in price order?

Which makes complete sense from a business perspective. It has to cost them around $800 to simply make one. No way are you going to make one for it to sit in the warehouse after the initial release wave. Especially when the quantity demanded will be low enough to where you can simply make them to order.

Almost seems redundant to have the same option twice... I was wondering by what metric forgeworld were 'recommending' things to me!
