I love the idea and fluff from the thousand sons, but hate the rules from chaos space marines. So long story short I'm wanting to build a thousand sons theme in codex space marines. What chapter tactic should I pick to help keep the feel. Looking at iron hands to keep the feel for resilience of rubric marines.

You could wait until Thousand Sons get the Horus Heresy treatment.

I'm not sure any of the Space Marine Chapter Tactics really do Thousand Sons justice.

Maybe a librarius conclave and Iron Hands.

I say Iron Hands because the Thousand Sons are supposed to be hollow suits of armor. So really its not like cutting through their armor would do anything. No bleeding wounds and the like.

That would so take away from the heart of them, if you aren't taking them to a competitive game theyre fine to use. I've got a buddy that plays with them now and then at FLGS and doesn't get tabled or anything.

Lotd would work well, they ignore cover, are fearless and have 3+ invulnerable saves. Like a much better version of thousand sons.

I'd say that LotD are close but they have no sorcs. You could probably attach some libbis in there but not sure if it's allowed by rules.
csm 1000 sons can still do surprisingly fine in certain lists though. Force axes, fearless and 4++ in cheap rhinos is still not all that bad.

Maybe ultras with tigurius?

Iron Hands I guess.

Honestly though Centurions make great Thousand Sons. They fire screw-your-armor magic bullets that crush tanks like tin cans and are hulking armored automatons that are damn hard to kill.

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

Grey Knight are loyalist Thousand Sons, for all intents and purposes. You can't really go wrong with them when modeling an entire chapter of Psykers. Also, Sanctic Daemonology covers the bulk of TS sorcery.

Thing is Thousand Sons aren't all Psykers. The troops are basically robots controlled by the psykers. Though Grey Knights certainly make a good pre-everything-going-to-gak Thousand Sons army.

I was answering the OP on which loyalist codex best matches Thousand Sons. If we just restrict ourselves to the SM codex, Ultramarine Librarius with heavy use of LotD is a good match up.

Grey Knights with LotD sprinkled in then?

Purifiers are better than LotD, as their power is a 9" nova.

Purifiers don't have a built-in Deep Strike (I believe), take Warp Charges away from other squads, and are less durable for the points.

Nah, LotD do much better than Purifiers.
