Firstly, I know a lot of people are still waiting for their KS deliveries and are rightfully pissed off about it.
There is other discussion that has been going on about that for more than 2 years: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/556916.page

But, thought it might be an idea to keep comments about the game itself, modelling ideas, painted examples etc. and conversions in a separate thread.
Partly because I don't think it's very fair waving miniatures about in the face of people still waiting for the game or miniatures. And also because that other thread has become a focal point for people receiving news about when the KS will arrive (I know I managed to contact a Prodos guy through it) and discussion about the game is going to be pretty difficult when you have the contrasting comments going on.

Anyway, will post some of my own thoughts about the game when I get the change, but wanted to leave this here for a few days first to see what people think. If the mods or other posters don't think this is a very fair thread to make in light of the KS struggles then I won't make any further posts.

I think it's a very good idea.

We, in France, are in the same situation : the thread about AVP is a place to grab (a very) few informations about the KS (it's the most viewed in the "news and rumors") but if 95% of backers are very angry about the prodos behaviour, they're pleased to put an eye on paint work of those who were enough lucky to get their minis.

I'll wait too for more opinions but if everybody agree, I'll post some pics of my stalkers aliens ^^

As an "outsider", I'm fine with the thread, though less so with the way that Prodos appear to be handling it. I'm interested to see how the models ended up coming out, and what people manage to do with the models.

I would like to see what they actually look like, not expecting mine anytime, soon or otherwise.

Going to start work on my minis (almost certainly the preds first) but have put in an order for some bases.

If anyone is not aware Fenris Games do a great 'Sulaco' range of bases, reasonably priced. There are both standard ship hulls, and 'hive' versions which I shall use for the alien bases. Believe the 'DS' profile type are the ones to go for if you want them to match the style of the supplied bases.

I follow with the fantastic Oyumaru paste ^^. As we have absolutely no information about alien tokens or facehuggers from prodos (despite the fact we were told that "We get more approvals" ) I decided to make my owns with 2 Secret Weapons 60 mm bases + Oyumaru + Fimo Air paste :

All you need is :

- Vallejo (or Prince August) water effect

- Fishing lane or wire kite

- That's all ^^

=> you put a little bit water effect on the mouth, then you insert in the water a little piece of Fishing lane/wire kite. You wait until the water effect is absolutely dry (about 15 min) and finally, with a little brush, you put some water effect on all the fishing lane/wire kite... and now everyone will showing respect to your alien

It's really REALLY easy you know ^^

This is the absolute paradox with prodos indeed : on the one hand, this company is worst than all I ever known... But on the other hand, they mold the best resin minis I've ever seen on my life (the 2nd would be RN Estudio without hesitation)...

I have just assembled a Predator and Marine, ready for priming. Can't wait to get started on them, such fantastically detailed miniatures. Of course I need to watch Aliens again while I am painting, to make sure I get the camo pattern on the marine right

Morikun - Can I ask which type of water effect you have used? There seem to be different types, is it 'Agua Transparente' ?

I have finished painting a test mini for the Marines, pending some resin bases I'm waiting on from Fenris Games. Next I will do Aliens as I want to leave the Predators for last, and spend the most time on them.

I have to say these are some of the finest resin cast miniatures I have ever seen, almost no flash or mould lines and the detail level is excellent.
These are the Colonial Marines miniatures I have been waiting 20 years for.

Hopefully when i get mine in feb/march i will have the willpower to actually paint them as ive still got all the correct screen used coloured paints from my actual uscm armour and pulse rifle

Few bits on the minis i want to change but that's purely a personal taste thing . Look great i may have to paint a set up for terry the armourer who made the originals .

Those infant aliens look awesome! I love some of the poses, like they are standing and waiting for the parent aliens to tell them what to do

I'm just putting some of the adult warriors together now. Bloody fantastic sculpts. It seems ridiculous, but after so many years of the movies (and being gak-scared watching the first two as a kid) I almost feel... uncomfortable putting them together. They really are the stuff of nightmares, HR giger was one fethed up dude

Regarding painting, it seems silly to think too much about painting them (they're black!) but I might try some very, very dark grey (perhaps even with a slight blue tint?) in an airbrush, try and get a really smooth finish on them.

Morikun - did you try the Vallejo Water Effect on the skin of the alien to give a 'wet slime' look? I might try to make that effect with gloss varnish, then try the water effect if it isn't strong enough.

These Infant Aliens are just black undercoated at this time (the little light effects are due to the magical natural sunlight of Bordeaux, France )

I'll paint them with white/grey dry brushes and after that, black ink for everyone ^^

No. For my Stalker Aliens, I used a mix water/GW gloss varnish 50/50 and put it all on the minis. After that, I put 3 times of pure GW gloss varnish on the head... and that's all

I'll look after my Basius Pad 2 for the bases too...

I'd like to see the edge cut sharp / flat, which you could just paint black. I think you could even do this now after the fact!

It's just the way your aliens are all lined up, they look like they might start dancing like the zombies in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video . Like any joke, it's a little less funny when you explain it, but no Thriller reference is ever wasted.

If I had as many bases as you did I think they would be going on absolutely everything

The Sedition War bases are 25mm, these are based on 30mm, but a quick look at the miniatures (Aliens and Marines) makes me think most of them should fit on 25mm. A couple might overhang (the marine with Smart gun, the alien on all fours only just fits on 30mm). The predators you could fit on the larger Sedition Wars bases.

The base size doesn't really have an impact in the board game rules either.

I really don't know : I want to spend all the time needed on this minis because these are really awesome and 100% real aliens trademark... I have 2 little children so my free times are very rare ^^'

I'm working on the bases too : I dont want to get "stamped bases and go !" : I've "one ou two little surprises" for it ^^
