Hi all,

Welcome to my project log for all things Black Templar, Celestial Lion, and the odd Steel Legion/Guard I started this prior to 8th edition, but with the new rule set I've picked up my Templar's & Lion's with a zealous vengeance!

With the release of the new £50 boxes I wanted to start a new Guard army. I then saw the Cadian Defence Force and thought sod it, I'll start there instead.

My intention was to run with the FW bits packs to upgrade the models, but as luck would have it I have a ton of Napoleonic's kicking around I've barely touched.

As such I was very close to going all French and using the Old guard from Victrix, but the Brit in me said no.

I didn't want a shaco feel, and the next best thing was actually the British hussars. I've done a basic head swap so far, and used backpacks as well. Hoping to work on the pelisse's they also wore as more of a fashion statement, but bring more diversity.

Now the scale is off, there no avoiding that. I'm hoping with some ok painting that this won't be to prevalent.

Basing will be city fighting, with broken tiles, steel beams and rubble.

My paint scheme I'm undecided, but along the lines of Emperors scythes.

Here is the first 5 troopers:

CnC welcome.

Luvvo.

Woah dude! They look really cool so far!

I actually don't think I've seen anyone do this before, so I'm stoked to see how they turn out.

Do you have a general for the army planned? If you decide to make Wellington, don't forget to use plenty of green stuff when you're sculpting his conk :-)

Oh, and for what it's worth, I think the scale actually looks fine.

That's awesome to hear man! Thank you.

I'm hoping with the hussars to use them more as vet's and focus on a bearskin shaco that way. Makes them more elite.

In regards to my command structure I'm not 100% yet. Honestly its so fresh I've just stuck to troops. Scale starts to get to noticeable with torso/legs on the Perry miniatures so may have to stick with nice head swaps, and a few extra bits.

Thanks for the comments!

First test model on the Voxcaster. Eyes, decals/free hand on shoulder and his gaiters to do. Then a few dials and cables on the vox itself. Might replace the antenna also.

I'm happy with the overall theme though.

What are your thoughts guys? CnC welcome.

Hi guys,

Quick update.

Started on some of my Templar as well, just a simple head swap at the moment. But working on a Grey Knight/Templar Termi conversion as well.

Morning all,

Quick update. Was up til the small hours last night throwing some paint onto one of my Sword Brethren. Still a WIP, namely the black armour. Would appreciate CnC.

Oh and also a slight conversion on the jump pack Chaplain. Was not a fan of faceplate on the helm, so replaced that. Swapped out the jump pack as well.

Thanks,

I think the head swaps and backpacks work well! There is, however, something about the way the head sits on the big blob of now black greenstuff in the sword brother that looks off. Not sure how to fix it though... Do love the head you picked, nice expression.

Mmm I see what you mean Oddball. It's were I've extracted the old head and not smoothed out the remaining resin. May have to come back to that, or lower the neck on the head. Good spot!

Some diameters of plasticard tubing slices thin work well for adding detail to that area when your doing head swaps.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried any of the Scibor Miniatures for Black Templar combinations?

http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?group=176 <--- These guys?

Or at least the shoulders pads, looking to spice up a stern or vanguard unit.

Many thanks,

I really like the head swap on your chaplain. The marine with the beard is also quite keen. It's amazing the variety and uniqueness that can be achieved with a simple head swap. Are those terminators Templar or grey knight based? I like combining the parts with those two sets. I think their iconography compliments each other nicely.

Thanks Waaazag. For the chaplain I loped off the front of the helm and then just jimmied on a wraith so I still get the cabling underneath from the SM helm.

Hopefully I can get the others painted up to show you the variety of more head swaps. Really makes a unit stand out vs vanilla marines.

The termies are GK base, with the physic hoods removed so far. Intended to use spare bits from the GK paladins on sternguard/vanguard at some point.

Thanks for the feedback man.

Ladies/Gents I've started a post in the Army List section as I could really do with some help making this fluffy stuff come together into an army that I can actually compete with.

Would appreciate any efforts to help build out a list with what I have:

Hi all,

Quick update on my Terminator Sargent.

Not sure if I need to Templar him anymore, have more nick knaks, but it might be overkill.

Many thanks,

I think your termie captain is Templar-ed up enough. Adding more details at this point would definitely be overkill.

Afternoon all.

I really love what a simple head swap can do to a miniature. Here comes my Marshal, or counts as Helbrecht:

Unfortunately I broke off the sword, when re-posing. However I may rethink the right arm, as I had no idea it was mechanical. Even after reading the latest small novel on Eternal Crusade!

Also I have ordered a few bits for a Celestial Lion conversion. Will be either a 5 man Sternguard unit, or a 10 man tactical squad. So keep an eye out for that coming back!

Many thanks,

Hopefully later today I can let you guys into a lilttle mini project!

As for a hint:

It involves using one of these shoulder pads.

Hi guys,

If you did pop in for the hint awesome, if not then suppose that doesn't matter either way.

Put some time back into assembly last night.

Say hello to my Black Templar Assault Terminators! Two single handed blades, count as lightning claws. Storm-shield and TH/PW count as TH/SS.

Love the pose on the far left terminator. Was very tempted to make a diorama!

With the Marshall

*Just noticed the inquisition symbol on the inner left sword. Will have to clean that up.

Many thanks guys,

Hi all,

Put some time into my Celestial Lions, specifically my Sternguard sergeant as a test model. Quite a bit to go, but I think he's shaping up ok. Would really appreciate CnC as first time working with gold on the majority of the model.

Attempted some muzzle flare on the melta as well, but it's not super clear in this snap.

I went for:
1:1 Brass/Liberator Gold Base
Agrax Earthshade Wash
Liberator Gold Highlight
Runefang Steel Highlight

Thanks!
