Thinking about a Combat Patrol list.
(110) Level 2 librarian on bike sporting Biomancy.
(155) command squad on bike, w/ apothecary, champion w/ axe, 1 vet w/ axe
(75) scout squad w/ cloaks and sniper rifles
(50) land speeder storm w/ multi-melta

Another thought is to drop the level 2 and give one of the bikers a power fist.

With combat patrol you can only have 1 of each and 1-3 troops, no forgeworld units, named characters, multi wound critters are reduced to 2 wounds, vehicles are reduced to 3 HP and armor facing of 12, psykers can only cast one spell (level 2 hoping to get better spells), and..... i know I am forgetting stuff but that is about it.

Whatta ya think? It doesn't have any anti air but I am hoping that in 400pts there wont be any air to worry about. On the other hand if I drop the Librarian (HQs are not required) and trim some fat I may be able to take a stormtalon.

I would swap out the snipers for bolters on the scouts so they can ride along and not snap shoot. Give the srg a melta bomb for a dread you face on occasion. Keep the cloaks, just add the melta bomb and the points will be the same. Stick to the libby and command squad. T5 will be very useful and I don't think you'll have to deal with a flyer at 400 points.

My 2 cents man

Cool! Good advice. So you wouldn't suggest the StormTalon?

I'd purchase it and hold onto it for your 750-1000 point levels. Don't think you'll see them at 400 points. If you do, ignore it and kill the rest of their army!

Man, I hate to say it but I got owned. The bolter scouts did well in their speeder but the librarian in biker gang command squad just could not bring the ruckus. Granted I played against thunderwolves, but still. Ugh. Now I am thinking about going more drop oriented. If I had more time I would build up some more Land Speeder Storms and more scouts but I don't think I will have the time before Adepticon.

Sorry to revive this if that's not allowed, but I did a search as I'm trying to work on a Combat Patrol. Hadn't considered starting my force with bikers but it sounds like it didn't go well! Did you take the list to Adepticon and how'd it go? What was the issue with the bikers?

I would have given the bikers Swords instead of Axes b/c of the initiative boost, and given the Librarian the Mindforge Stave if that was legal - it would give you a PF-equivalent on him, which would be better given his multiple wounds (he likely won't die in the 1st initiative round, especially with Look Out, Sir!) while giving you an extra attack for not being a Specialist Weapon. And it's 10 pts cheaper than a PF on a biker On the flip side it is a relic and would prevent you from taking Chain of the Gorgon for an invuln save, though that is v. pricey at this points level.

For combat patrol games, I think your list has fine potential. I would go with a shooty-command squad though with grav. In a game this small, you would be better suited mowing down everything with relentless grav bikes, than trying to go toe-to-toe in cc with things like thunderwolves (a very popular, and good combat patrol army).

The thing is, this type of "beatstick command squad" works at higher levels, where everyone has a maul/axe and pistol, you have a conclave on bikes, and/or an invincible chapter master... but at such a low points game, shooting is going to be king.

Drop whatever you have to and give the command squad 4 grav guns. Other than that, the other advice on the bolter scouts in the speeder is great. I'd drop the melta bomb though. It's nice in theory, and yeah, I know... it's cheap, but you aren't going to want to get the speeder that close to a vehicle, because it's weapons are anti-troop (heavy flamer and cerberus launcher all the way). Fill it with naked bolter scouts and outflank for a super-effective unit that comes in cheaper than a TFC.

Librarian - bike, axe & pistol, level 2 -- I'd roll on the new SM powers, they are amazing.
Command Squad - bikes, apothecary, grav x3, combi-grav x1 (on one guy just to fit in the points limit)
Scouts (5) - bolters, land speeder storm w/heavy flamer

Try that.
