Maelstrom's Edge has reignited my enthusiasm for hobby related stuff after I have recently moved house and been prevaricating about tackling the grey plastic mountain stored in my gaming room. Decided to tackle some Karists and took my inspiration from keltikhoa's thread:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/676620.page

Whilst my Karists will never look as spiffy, I was taken by the whole purple tinged metallic vibe so decided to do something similar, the only caveat being it must fit my credo of being a quick and easy paint scheme. I find that if I can't paint something quickly and easily, I soon lose motivation and yet another project falls by the wayside. So whilst my painting will never win a Golden Daemon, I can live with that if it means getting things finished to a stage where I am happy with it.

That being said, here it is so far. Apologies for the crappy iPad snap - my mini photography never matches my expectations.

It doesn't show up great in the photo, but what you can see if Halford's BMW arctic silver with a Leviathan purple wash. The guns I did in a sort of light grey colour to hint at a kind of ceramic type feel rather than the standard boltgun metal finish.

The best thing was, both models only took maybe 30 mins to do so definitely fit my criteria of being fast to finish. OK so they are table top standard at best but I have long since learned to embrace my deficiencies if means finishing stuff!

Yay I am inspiring!!

Nice work, Nothing wrong with a good clean fast paint job and yours is all 3 of those. The only thing I would suggest trying on at least one of them is a Nuln Oil wash to the recesses of the armor to give it a bit more depth and not much time added.

Also I have much experience with using crappy photo taking technology. As you can see in my own log you linked the difference of a very simple cardboard lightbox is dramatic. If you don't want to make one of those, then just remember not to hold the ipad. Meaning, rest it on a box, the table, just something stable to support it. then you can either get closer to the models and it will focus because it is stable or you can use the zoom function to better effect.

Really like the look of these. I'm still deciding on a colour scheme for my own, and today assembled 2 Angels, the Kaddar Nova, a squad of Troopers and two Tempest Elites while browsing the interwebby to look at everyone else's colour schemes.

Having a reflected aura from the weapons gives a nice painting challenge as well.

looking forward to seeing more of your models over time.

Good to hear what medge did for your enthusiasm I really feel you on the 'getting stuff finished' issue. I tell myself 'just get it done you gakker' on a regular basis :p

well, who'd have thought that would set off the profanity filter

It doesn't help that at the moment I am working away from home 4 days a week so my hobby time is somewhat disrupted.

Anyway, I shamelessly stole some ideas from Panic's excellent terrain thread. Actually, it would be more accurate to say I copied what Panic has done more or less

But to be fair, his terrain looks great, the bits needed are cheap and easily available and even a complete spanner like me can get some decent looking stuff done relatively painlessly. I have been working on a couple of buildings so far - here is a very rough and ready WIP

Really impressed by the terrain sprue, lots of useful bits and pieces on there and extremely extensible.

There are some prongs on the bottom of the gutter buildings that I need to chop off so it sits flat and a few more detail pieces to add and of course, painting still to do but it is coming along nicely I think.

Excellent so far filbert, and no shame in stealing a freely offered excellent idea . The gutter-buildings are by far my favorite use of the terrain sprue so far, and yours is looking great!
