Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Hi guys, I'm curious what you think of my marine list at 2000.  Bored of Eldar I started it to tide me over before the next codex.  I've tried a few things and found this "final" list to be very effective.  Note that many of my choices were deliberate.  I only wanted Lascannons, no missile launchers for instance.  Note that I also wanted nothing to do with Assault Squads or fast attack HQ choices but found them too usefull/fun to leave out   (ie I was getting spanked TG == True Grit and Counter Attack, BG == Boltgun

HQ
Chapter Master;  Thunder Hammer/CCW, Bike, Artificer Armour, Iron Halo
// 181
Master of Sanctity; Crozius Arcanum, Rosarius, Frag Grenade, Bolt Pistol, TG, Infiltrate
Command Squad (10 man); TG, Infiltrate
2 dudes with BP/CCW, 1 Meltagun, 5 BG/CCW
Apothecary; BG/CCW
Veteran Sergeant; Powerfist, Bolt Pistol (need this in case of something nasty assaulting otherwise would prefer power weapon here)
// 383

Troops
Tactical Squad (10 man); 8 BG/CCW, Meltagun
Veteran Sergeant; Lightning Claw, Storm Bolter, Purity Seals
Rhino; SL and EA
// 383
Tactical Squad (10 man); 8 BG/CCW, Meltagun
Veteran Sergeant; Powerfist, Bolter, Purity Seals
// 227
Tactical Squad (5 man); 4 BG/CCW, Meltagun
// 100
Grey Knights (6 man); Justicar has a targeter (never seen these guys in CC even once but that's ok they're just there for the storm bolters )
// 176

Fast Attack
Bikes (4 man); Heavy Bolter, Flamer, Skilled Rider
// 160
Assault Squad (5 man) (no TG here) (these guys would be cool if I could give them BG/CCW)
// 110

Heavy Support
Devastator Squad; 3 BG, 2 Lascannons (no TG here)
// 145
Devastator Squad; 3 BG, 2 Lascannons (no TG here)
// 145
Whirlwind
//85

So the Command Squad takes one on the chin, the Assault Squad leads everything else up the field.  Devastators shoot tanks.  The bikes lay covering fire and can charge too depending on the situation.  The Force Commander hangs back taking advantage of being an IC, giving everyone ld 10 and then charges something on turn 2/3.

Almost every game has been against Tau, played a MEQ army a couple of times.  Had some bad losses against hordes but now I've got the Whirlwind and some fast attack elements.

By some bizare fluke it uses almost every model I own with the exception of a Landspeeder that I can't include b/c for White Scars Rhinos take up a fast attack.  All in all I'm happy with them.  I have to say I prefer painting marines over guardians .

Swerike

1. Why does your command squad have True Grit when they dont all have bolters. Give them all bolters or skip TG.
2. Those Grey Knights make no sense, if you want bolter rounds you wold be better off with 10 Marines.
3. The Assault Marine squad is a sweet spot for flamers, and maybe even a vet. with a pfist.
4. Making your Devastator squads into regular squads with 1 lascannon each saves you 110 pts, and you can give your 5 man melta squad a lascannon to still have 3st.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

1.  Besides a "fluff" reason there are _still_ 6 guys in there with bolters.  This squad takes the brunt of shooting attacks so depending on the situation I remove either bolters or bolt pistols.  It could be argued that true grit is a waste because 4/5 times they get their butts blown off but then you get back to the fact that it's the command squad; it gets true grit and that's all there is to it.  Since they've been infiltrating there have been times when they shot their bolters and ended up in CC in subsequent rounds (if they can infil 12") and the extra attacks have been nice.  If you pay 30 pts on 10 guys and end up with 4 extra attacks in CC at some point you're doing pretty good.  Counter Attack is nice too, especially with the chaplain and power fist in there.
2.  6 Grey Knights are 175.  8 Marines w/ a powerfist, TG and a meltagun are 186.  For this one squad I'd rather have the Grey Knights.  The storm bolters are more comparable to a Scout Squad with Sniper Rifle/Heavy Bolter or a Predator Destructor since they have decent range shooting on the move. Like the Chaplain the fearlessness is nice although I don't think the shrouding has worked even once.  They always seem to do something even if they don't get their points back.
3.  Yeah I could take more assault marines but I don't want to feel like I won only because my assault marines took on the whole army.  These five dudes are just there to be a pain.  I thought about flamers but I like having the extra attacks in CC, that's worth something too.  I wanted to avoid fast attack since my other army is wave serpent/assault squads.  This army is all about rapid fire and taking advantage of being a bad *donkey*MEQ.  If I want flamers I'm going to take them on bikes.
4.  I could have 3 Tactical squads with 3 Lascannons, 3 plasma and 9 bullet catchers or I could have 2 Devastator Squads with 4 Lascannons and 6 bullet catchers.  I'd rather have 4 lascannons since it's my only long range anti-tank.  Normally they get shot at, the bullet catchers die, the lascannons are still there and then the opponent has to worry about the rest of the army that is about to get into rapid fire/assault range.  6 man las/plas squads are something I've considered but I like the feel of these guys.  Originally I had 6 man squads with 1 lascannon, 1 meltagun and true grit but I always ended up with the two weapons and 1 cool looking dude with chainsword/bolter and I was like "what am I paying true grit points for here?"  Another thing I've considered is Devastator squads with heavy bolters to lay down some suppressing fire but now I use the grey knights, bikes and whirlwind.  I'd get a scout squad if I had the $$.
