Hello there Dakkanaughts!

Many months/years I have lurked in the shadows observing the fruits of the labor that is warhammer and other tabletop miniature hobbies and with recent re-incarnation of the WHFB game to Age of Sigmar I have dusted off my collections and began to not only regain motivation but build up courage to post some of my progress on here!

Seems a shame to dump a whole lot of imagery without context on how and when but I will be brief and point out notable things!

let us begin by outlining that before AoS I was on my way to build a Tomb King force, that did not work out so great as I was taking my time looking for deals, still a fairly sizable portion is what I currently own.



About half way through the work on these horsemen, the AoS announcement came and I had to get some troops completed so I switched gears and 'completed' these skeletons.



Most unfortunately as outlined by the title of the 'studio' my attention span frequently wanders and I think of new, not too drastic distractions. While my significant order thinks the collection is far outrageous, it really is majority Tomb Kings + 40k Orks (entire cabinet full and some)....

Somewhere in the AoS boot-up , I discovered the love of Dwarfs and picked up an auction on eBay with a standard portioned Skull Pass plus some extras, told myself I won't go overboard so I really picked up what I 'needed' to cap off a 20- or 30 unit and stopped at that.

All that I have left remaining is to paint the bases to resemble cobblestone, while I regret not making a more 'themed' + 'cooler' bases , this was my 1st ever attempt at making models look good from 2 ft away without doing a 'lot' of work or being super OCD about under armpits and between the legs.

Moving along!

Somewhere along the dwarf project making its way along, I played a small game using forces of death. My interest plateaued as usual with infantry and I fancied some zombies so Mantic it is !




I think I lost majority of the progress pictures there, went sort of from the hoola hoop skirt base to the final tray of brain eaters.

Tell me what color do you like most !!! I pretty much just bashed things together but the biel-tan green on GREEN skirt was .... most... unfortunate...

Another update! can't get around doing these often enough but then again, not sure if I would like the painting to catch up to me. Went to Adepticon 2016 as it is just down the road from my house and hit the bitz guy of course.

Picked up a bunch of stuff my significant other probably doesn't think I need anyway so that is that!

Of course when I got a closer look at the loot (just like last year) but I did not stop there! picked up the paint brush and got this empire artillery piece done including the crew. Don't ask about the names, my girlfriend sits in the same room I have my corner desk setup and we were just chatting along while some names came up to our head, 'twas fun and I think they are fitting.

The whole process took about 4 evenings ? and the results while not exceptional, surpass my expectation for table-top miniatures. Knowing me, I will probably pick them up somewhere down the line and touch them up or improve em, until then enjoy the snaps!

Been a long time since an update and I am hoping to post some more progress. Life has been most work but war gaming always finds a way no matter how much time is allowed. Death has not been treating me well in skirmishes so Dwarfs were it for time being but breaking away from my army a friend requested I paint his Giant he picked up so I did! Here is what I am considering a completed job. sorry for the crappy picture. Enjoy!

It's been a long time, its always interesting coming back with motivation to post something I am working on. Holy long time since last post!

Looks like its been quite some time ! 2016! , anyway figured I would upload something in progress at this time. With rumors of Death forces I am wrapping up the Shadespire warband , little Mordheim minis here and there but I am building willpower to post more frequently as I get ready for Adepticon.

Hello fellow Hobbyists!

Sharing some more progress on Squirrel Paint Studio work!, in progress, at this time (due to Moulder taking some much-needed rat-siesta) we have Order Warriors!

This provoked me to wrap up my Order/Dwarf army. You can see mixes of Stormcast/Free People/Iron-weld in the studio galleries.

The first snapshot is of the leader that I wanted to test Auric Armour Gold after deciding it was THE metallic I would be putting on them. I don't foresee myself buying enough of the handsome sculpted but overpriced Ironbreakers. With enough friendship across the table, I could run them as such, should one wish to try them out. I like the scheme so I am also including progress on the block that needs to be painted!



I have peppered in there a metal, Hammerers command to give this unit a bit more character. It also contains a blend of old Warrior units from starter sets as well as new unique Warriors. This works well, at least on the transport device I have them going on.

Looking forward to my entire Order army taking shape once complete, similar to that of the Longbeards and Stormcast alike!

It's been less than a month so I guess this is a high 5 for me on trying to keep the ball rolling. Never understood how often, or how rarely one should post. I have a few treats today before we take a quick extended break from work to vacation.

I have been working on some Daemons of Khorne, this will be used in the new Age of Sigmar game. They always fascinated me and a friend whom I got into the game purchased an army, keeps it at my house. I've come to realize that I hope my paint job will make him happy and he will want to field them.

I am buying all the trinkets he needs to actually play like the rulebook too! , and I may be beefing up this Bloodletter unit as well but let's not get into Army building.

Having fun painting Demons.

From the moment I have seen those miniatures in my life, I imagined them coming from out of the ground Dante Inferno's style. They are creatures that are of Red color mostly, darker might not necessarily mean better as older skin is less prone to stretching. They don't have Gold Bond where they come from and are completely formed out of flesh that is many layers of skin.

While bones do come out looking clean out of their standard created limbs (unlike my paint job) , they too themselves are very hot, anything they touch singes of and that's that! On another very hot related point, besides getting distracted, (squirrel paint studio), The blade is nested in the gold heath which does have or at least attempts to be completely drenched with blood.

Blood of enemies as it gets drenched in it upholds the livelihood that is The Hellblade. Unimaginably hot beyond anything described. Forget a lightsaber, have you ever felt heat so hot that you felt your eyeballs leave your skull as it sliced you in half? that is what I would imagine being cut by one of those things would be like. Not a good place. Come to think of it Beastclaw Raiders are so cold, maybe they could handle it?

In any case, the red and gold work very well with each other, these guys are a delight to put together and very fun to paint. Looking forward to completing the Altar, it will serve as good decor and we could use it in Mordheim games as well! Sigmar knows it busted out of the ground in somewhere beyond the walls because Khorne wanted in on the action!

Hello, fellow hobbyists!

Well, here we are. I spoke too soon and did not submit work during the month of April, after bragging about it in May. Shame because the hobby has been flowing on and off, time permitting of course. Craving Mordheim on some nice terrain.

Continued the work on Khorne upon leaving for my vacation to Japan and managed to produce this. Bloodcrushers are all assembled.




The Chaos Hounds and Karnakk models still need to be put together, looks like it will have to wait...

When I returned from the trip, the Khorne train subsided due to considerable pickup in work-life, this will continue as I planned some development work in the Summer of 2019... in the meantime, bloodletters are all taking a Khorne bath.



This brings me to an opening of the next chapter here at squirrel paint!
In anticipation of the most recent 2,000 point game as my beloved TK/Death, I've picked up and made progress on a unit of dire wolves!



I put them on 40mm bases due to originally using them as 40k Space Wolves, considering changing them to proper AoS bases. This kit is stupendous, such detail, and a treat to put together. Basecoats and some blood for blood god so far. Just need to detail out the fur and some minor skulls/bones/chains, potentially yellow eyes but many of them have skull sockets, so that's a little weird. I love the way they look on the tabletop... maybe I should bust out the 80 mantic zombies with them next game!



There is a good chance now that I am back in the States, updates might get posted more frequently.

Also looking forward to posting my first picture of the Nagash figure. Several of his elements are completely base-coated but I am actively working on his base. If my fellow wargamer persists to reward me with his time to play, we should see him posted on here as my tabletop standard by the end of this summer!

August! , looks like I skipped over the month of July altogether. Rightfully so, enjoy some of these products from SPS.



We (myself and my wife) are actively involved with a Dungeons and Dragons (2nd ED) game every Friday. Wife of the DM requested a female, elf, a fighter with silver hair and purple eyes. The image is a rough picture of her, I've cleaned her up since, made the base a little more scenic and fixed the rim. This was my first time attempting to spend less than 30 minutes on a miniature, quite enjoyed painting her. For those interested, it is a Reaper mini "Nicole of the Blade, Sisters".

Next, on the block, we have my long overdue block of 30 Tomb Guard (Grave Guard) used in Age of Sigmar. Quite a bit of work left on these guys... not sure if I want to attach the shields on them yet, but they were fun to paint as well! Going well with my desert red and green themed Death army. Nagash model has been getting some work but I will likely upload him once he is 100% complete. I feel anything I give away now, will spoil it...



Next, this block of extra skeletons I've purchased on eBay. I got some of those new fancy 25mm movement trays and because it's likely best to run them as 40, I needed 16 more. This picture is before they got some shading, typhus corrosion on some random weapons and going to pick out some highlights on bone + ryza rust. I will try to match them to the best of my abilities to the previously completed block of 30 you can check out in my gallery.



Lastly, in between all the above work, I guess I 'finished' these Morghast as Nagash's minions. If you stretch your imagination, you can imagine what Nagash will look like. However a little more summon-yy might I say. Quite excited to get these guys done to field them, although not particularly impressed with their stats...., they've been laying inside their box for about a year and a half....




That reminds me ...... this Dreadfleet set has been getting very little love ...... Happy August !, Squirrel out !!!

Dakka! I have not forgotten about you!

It has been some time but I've been busy painting. Need more time to upload official photos but the unit of 40 skeletons is all complete! based and touched up with extra special love. Together with the Tomb Guard, they have been put away into my foam so that they don't take up space and only get brought out when I need them on my next death battle!

Nagash has been done for some time, I really need some good photos taken of him! Off to some things I was able to snap picks of!

Picked up Gotrek Gurnisson when he came out, why would I not try and run him in an all dwarf army! Love his choppiness, even if I get to use him at least ONCE ever in melee, it will be worth it. A quick paint job with some highlights. Mostly on Hair / Beard and Wood which I found most pronounced. Everything could use an extra highlight but for now, he is alright. I actually spend time to magnetize him to both the scenic and the 32 mm base. 4 magnets in total, 2 in his feet, and 1 in each base.



Along the same lines, because Cities of Sigmar came out and I picked up the book, I am trying to wrap up all my outstanding units.
I painted the gold elements on the Warrior unit with Retributor Armour and I like it quite a bit! , also touched up black elements for some. There goes that Black Legion theme creeping up on me! Bases have since been coated and off to the checkered pattern my Longbeards similar to in the gallery. 30 of them will take some time.




Speaking of checkers! I got the Artillery from Soul Wars box done so that I can field it and it is not grey, I tried to spend very little time on these guys and I am happy with the result. Enjoyed them as well, who knows if they will get playtime... I have like 6 artillery pieces in the cabinet that are dead now because of the CoS book...




In addition, the Evocators got some love so that they don't feel left out. I think Duncan's 'sword' effect video was out around that time so I tried to mess around with my version which tool a lot less time and a little less clean, but it looks good up close, and even better on the tabletop! check!




I also had a pewter dwarf hero laying around in my dwarf Hero Box I am churning through, and decided to get him done quickly as well, Axehelm of Kragmarr, needed him to get placed on a table and match the rest of the crew so here is what I was able to come up with. He has a pretty neat cloak and honesty this picture does not do him justice. The beard has some nice highlights, the light leather has like 3 levels of highlights and he has a pretty neat cloak on the back I created some fades on. His horns also transition from dark brown to white at the tip. One of my fav blends.



Currently, working several pieces, some terrain, GW chests from the ruin set, the base coated rune dwarf and few others.


Most excited for the 25th anniversary White Dwarf on shield bearers. I got assembled and magnetized so that when I place him on the shield he stays put. It's the one being held up by Gotrek and Buggman, quite a nice piece! It's a shame the rules for special shield-bearer hero have been taken off. I enjoy pewter models, they remind me of my childhood when I started the hobby with a set of Space Wolves... long time ago, I still have them somewhere...

In addition, I kitbashed this Dwarf hero to make him an official 32mm 'Runepriest' because my other is another Dark Heaven Legends pewter model and who knows... maybe one day I would want to field them at a GW store and we all know how they don't like non-GW licensed minis in their stores.

I was going for MAX yellow on him with gold, also used Sepia Shade vs Agrax, I like it, just need to give him some good highlights with bright yellows, touch the skin and some blue. My standard painted on cobblestone checker base and he should be good!. ... make that lantern POP with some OSL maybe....


The hobby is moving forward! I made space to airbrush more frequently. Got some Spirit Hosts to beef up my Death army and still need to assemble the Nighthaunt half of the Soul Wars box set. Not much playtime, its been since September so looking forward to rolling some dice as well. Itching pretty bad for some Mordheim! I enjoy the small skirmish type character build games! , need to read up on the Kill Team rules for 40k and get BACK to ORKS! which I have like 3,000 pts of collecting dust.... sigh...

UGH...... there I go being a squirrel again.... the Order army is getting done first! Got a set of 30 miners which I made some fun conversions, coming up next and a General on Gryphon! He's a nice model, acquired him a long time ago and while he does not FIT the dwarfs in-game at all, I had to have it as a centerpiece! it will look great and the colors of my Order army will make him shine no doubt!
