A friend of mine who has recently suffered from some health issues has asked me to help him out by painting up some Bolt Action figures for him. These figures are to be used for a 1940 scenario that is intended to depict a group of British folks hanging out at a pub, when all of a sudden German paratroopers start dropping out of the sky! The British are going to be represented by the metal Dad's Army box set, plus a few figs, while the Germans are going to be built out of Warlord's plastic Fallschirmjaeger army box. All told, I'm looking at about 20 Brits and 26 Germans to paint!

I've decided to divide and conquer on this one; I'm starting with the Brits that are in uniform. Here they are after clean-up:

Again after basing:

And after priming them in British Khaki (which looks more brownish to me, but oh well!):

I've also assembled one of the Fallschrimjaeger, just to see how he would go together:

I have to say, after years of assembling GW Guardsman figs, I was pleasantly surprised by this model. The legs and torso being one piece is a plus in my book, when you are talking about painting a whole army of these guys! I plan on painting this model up as a test model in parallel with the British, to keep things fresh.

I completely painted one of the British riflemen as a test mini:

I'm fairly happy with how he came out! Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.

My friend was happy with the test model, so now it is full speed ahead! Today's task was to basecoat all the exposed skin:

Its amazing how much difference this one small step makes to the look of the minis!

Made a bit of progress. I got the webbing, pouches, etc. base coated with a bit of khaki:

Got a bit more done over the weekend. Everything has been base coated and washed:

I also started on the (shudder) eyes:

This is probably the best of the bunch as far as my attempt at eyes goes. Not too horrible, but could be better for sure. There are one or two I think I am just going to have to do over .

Progress has been slowed over the past week due to "real life." Still, I was able to get caught up some today:

Apologies for the cruddy cellphone pics! At this point, all that's left to do is the sealing and to finish the basing. Once that's done I'll take some better pics!

Whew! Been a couple of weeks. Sorry, real life and all that .

Got the Brits done!

Now, it's on to the Germans!

Looking good! They are a bit shiny though, did you hit them with a matte varnish? That's pretty important, especially with metal models.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

I love bolt action, though no one plays locally :(

Anywho, great models! though they do suffer from 'model eye' syndrome, so to speak.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Two coats of matte, actually. They don't look as shiny IRL as they do under my photography lights. I might go back and hit them with some Dullcote to kill the residual shine.

Yeah, I'm not very good at painting eyes, yet. . Fortunately, it is also much harder to see IRL than it is when under magnification in photos.

I've been slowly chipping away! I've finished up my test model for the German paratroops:

Went for a slightly less involved method with this guy than I did with the Brits, for the simple fact that I've got to paint a lot more of them!

I didn't make as much progress as I wanted to this week, but I still have managed to get the base coat onto the first group of the Fallshcrimjager:

Just have to let them dry, and they will be ready for their ink wash, highlighting, and final detailing!

I also managed to get most of the rough assembly done on the rest of the line troopers:

I need to get them cleaned up a bit, and then they will be ready for priming. What I discovered when I painted the first batch above is that it is actually easier to paint these particular models with their arms not attached in a lot of cases. So, my plan is to paint them up through their base-coat with the arms off, and then do the final assembly before washing and highlighting.

Made a bit of progress this weekend! The "specials" (the officer, NCOs, machine gunner, ammo carrier, and medic) for the Fallshcrimjager are nearing completion:

I'm particularly happy with the medic:

\

The plastic Fallshcrimjager box does not have a medic included in the bits, so I had to do some light modding to get this guy.

In the mean time, as I've been working on the highlighting and other finishing touches for the models above, I've also been moving forward on the first squad of Fallshcrimjager riflemen:

These guys should be ready for their wash and highlighting in the next day or two!

Sooo...it's been a while since I updated. I have been working on the Fallschrimjager in fits and starts, though, and today I finished them!

Command squad:

Two squads of riflemen:

Overall, I'm fairly happy with how they came out. They are certainly the best I've been able to manage on 28mm infantry up to this point, I think!

Whew! It's been a long time since I updated this thread. I'm closing in on finishing up the Dad's Army project. Here is all the civilian models:

They are pretty much done, except for being sealed and put on their final bases.

My friend has also asked me to work on this figure of General Patton for him:

And finally, as a side-project I've been working on: Tanks! My friend traded me the models out of a Tank War starter box for the painting I'm doing:

Thanks for the compliments guys!

I just finished up a couple of tanks for BA! Here is a M4 Medium and a PzKpfw V Panther I've been working on:

I still have 5 more M4s and 4 more Panthers to paint up, so this is just the beginning!

Making good progress on the Panthers! I got the decals on and sealed, and the weathering applied. All that's left is a few details and a final coat of matte varnish and they will be done!

Looks like they're coming along nicely, Ruckdog - I take it the bits of green in the background are tank crew?

Yep! I've got two crewman for my M1 HQ, and 4 gunners for each of the M113s.

I managed to get the Mech Platoon figs all done today, and made some good progress on their transports, the air defense tracks, and the objective markers. Not bad for an afternoon's work!

Now that I've got the Team Yankee project more or less tied up, it's time to move onto the next one!

I've started working on an Empire of the Blazing Sun fleet for Dystopian Wars. I've just finished the test model for the scheme I'm going to use:

Welp, I'm not going to let a small thing like Spartan Games going out of business to keep me from painting!

I've made some progress on my Blazing Sun force. I've gotten some of the metallics the decks, and the red highlights have been base coated. Next up, I have the copper/brass metallics, and then it will be time for the washes.
