Hi

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with or recommendations for painting darker or tanned skin? Preferably with reference to GW paints, cheers.
I'm toying with painting some dark eldar up like the dark elves you tend to see in anime - See example from 'Record of Lodoss War'.
Thanks!

Denmark.

The way I do it, I just use regular face paints (Bugman's Glow and Cadian Flesh, for example), and blend about half of a brown or musky colour in them. Somehow it keeps the colour while making it skin-like. End up shading with Reikland Fleshshade in the face, and you're golden.

It really depends how dark of skin you want to go.

You can start with a Rhinox Hide base and the slowly work up from there by mixing in Doombull Brown and eventually mixing in another lighter Brown tone.

These aren't with Citadel paints but are amazing tutorials on painting skin tones.

I kind of let this thread go dead because I wasn't totally satisfied by the results. But here I am again, once more about to embark into dark eldar nonsense (for real this time), and seeking advice.

I'm really gunning less for *dark* dark skin, and more of like a very rich golden/brown tan. Here are an assortment of anime and irl (ahem) modeling of the kind of thing I'm trying to imitate.

(reasonably nsfw (sorry mods), but no nudes)

The 90s Dark Elves such as the example from Lodoss War seem to be inspired by the "Gyaru (ギヤル)" and "Yankee (ヤンキ)" fashion trends, which, among other things, had an emphasis on being tanned, so I've chucked a couple of examples of that in for reference.

I do understand however, that this is increasingly becoming weirdly specific, but cheers for the help so far, and if anyone who's actually done anything similar, I would be super thankful!

also, if anyone knows of any good model kits to practice painting skin on (that I could reasonably get my hands on in Korea), please let me know!

Hmmm...I don't know if this is the right shade, but I use a simple single colour for my skin on my CSM. It's "Cork Brown" from Vallejo --- with strong tone dip/wash over it.

Similar in colour, but maybe off a bit. I find all of GW's flesh colours to be rather pants (way too stark or bright or crazily yellowy).

Yours looks to have a bit more grey/mocha kind of feel to the tone? I dunno.

Honestly, this is one of the best responses I've had thus far. I don't know if you have any way of telling, but how close would you say Cork Brown is to Cadian Fleshtone? I've had a lil look online, and they seem kinda close? I'm not sure how easy it will be to get hold of Vallejo in Korea - my local modelling shop doesn't even stock spray paint. But fortunately I've got my citadel paints, though, as you point out, not sure their pallet is broad enough to encompass they kind of tone I'm after.

Don't have any access to Cadian Fleshtone - if I run into somebody with some I'll take a swing. Keep in mind my Cork Brown is always dipped afterwards which drops the colour a bit. I'll see if I can take some before/after pictures with it on the next model I do.
