A little slow tome round the Mean dungeons, so I found myself an interesting little movie.

Ex Machina

I thougt it was a really good movie! Noce little twists and turns in it, and the way that Nathan discusses utilization of search engines and the information...whoah!!

Saw it in theatres. Very bad date movie, but I liked it a lot.

I enjoyed it enough. Quite a dark ending which was nice but I felt some of the dialogue was weak and the overt use of sexuality was unnecessary.

More a geek media thread btw?

I saw and enjoyed it. Bit of a niche movie. I’d not recommend it to the general populace. It was a nice change of pace from the Hollywood formula, but was odd enough that I think the “average” movie goer would not enjoy it.

I thought it was well directed and well acted, with writing that swung between great and embarrassingly pretentious. There's a lot of fridge logic that brought it down in my mind the more I bought about it. I can't say I enjoyed the movie, but I appreciated the artistry that went into it.

I enjoyed it. And then unplugged the toaster.

Saw the movie last year, enjoyed the effort that went into the visual aspect. The dialogue was sometimes well done, but other times it just took you out of the movie. The ending barely made sense though, just too convenient, with giant question marks on why this, why that etc.

Sorry for my spelling. I'm not a native speaker and a dyslexic.

I saw Ex Machina on the plane, and it was beyond pretentious.

I was actually surprised by the ending...it didn't go the way I thought it would go. However, given Nathan's explination of the "rat in a maze with one way out" comment...the more I thought about that, the more I could see it.

I really liked it when I watched it, but the other 3/4 people I watched it with weren't so keen.

I really like the AI genre, there were some pretty good Outer Limits episodes (see Valerie 23). I wasn't really that impressed by Ex Machina though. My favourite bit was probably...

Spoiler:
The security video, where the robot scrapes so hard at the door, she trashes her own arms. That bit was really creepy.

You might also like The Machine, which is of a similar ilk.

I really enjoyed it.... There were parts that certainly could jar you out of suspension... but by and large they were few.

One of the scenes that really stood out to me was

Spoiler:
when Caleb gets the key card and explores more of the bits he's not supposed to see... and finds the super creepy coffin/mirror setup that surrounds Nathan's bed.

It really kind of put Nathan's isolation and persona into perspective.

Ohh, and here's the plot twist I had kind of expected:

Spoiler:
When we first see Caleb's scars, I expected the movie to sort of climax or end with his discovering that he is the Turing Test subject, that it was in fact he who was the crowning AI achievement, not the visible androids.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Excellent film, really worth watching. I thought one of the stand-out sci-fi efforts of last year.

There is a lot of subtlety to it, makes you think, and laugh actually (the dance scene)
