Hello All, just wanted to tell you today about an alternative system to play small skirmishes in the Warhammer Universe...Heralds of Ruin Kill Team.

Each army has an almost 'mini-codex' that you can build your army from. Games generally start out at 200 or 250, and then can go up from there. Some rules are tweaked from normal warhammer, to preserve the idea and feel of this being an elite team sent in to accomplish a mission. If you click the link below, you can see our rules, campaign rules, and army lists we have.
Heralds of Ruin Kill Team Blog!

All our lists are currently in development, so feel free to join our Facebook group to help steer the course of the game!

Very crisp and clean layouts. Had that i wanted to know right away. Points per side and table size.

Looking over the list, this can be a great thing to jump back into 40k by buying the new starter boxes without playing the chesse and horribleness of 40k itself.

My question is will you add weapon tables to the army books or other special rules? I left 40k a few years ago and dont plan to go back til i see the next edition. Id rather this be self contained so i didnt have to buy 40k codexes to play kill team.

Same with speci rules like hammer kf wrath

Yeah, the bummer of Kill Team is that while it's inexpensive to build a team compared to an army, a player is still required to own some very expensive rules and codexes.

For the most part, armies have an armory in each list. Models have their profiles listed, but there is only so much we can out out there without drawing the wrath of gw...

We still consider ourselves an 'expansion' to 40k, and a good way for people to have smaller games, and a way to ease new or returning players back into the game.

Well that quickly disappointed me. Thought this was a self contained game without needing a codex to get all your model special rules and your weapons.

Not that its a huuuge deal as I know people with some "codexes". Possible I still might try it out.

One thing I did see others posting that I agree is the formatting. Theres a good amount of breaks in codexes where its just s name, then next page is the rest. If it could be made to do 2 units a page that would be great

I apologize that we can only post so much of gws materials, we definitely do not want to get shut down, in sure everyone understands and appreciates that.

From before, all the army lists are currently being redone, so until they are finalized, the formatting on some might be off. Should be fixed in the next few weeks though.

Please join the FB group and help contribute your ideas, everyone is welcome!

Wow, lots of self entitled people in this thread. If you have the models to play it, why don't you have the books in the first place?

Maybe they wanted to try out a faction they don't have the book for? Or maybe they see the models as high-quality enough to pay GW prices for, and the codex rules as...not? Or maybe they love the universe and fluff and want to give this ruleset a whirl, but are using alternate models and don't want to buy anything from GW?

Lots of reasons, actually!

Regardless, Heralds of Ruin is pretty darn cool for putting together this ruleset! I keep meaning to try it out and I've sketched out a few different lists (couple for Guard and one for Storm Troopers) but have yet to find the time. It's really easy to make fluffy themed forces, which is a huge plus for me.

Quick question - am I missing anything, or do none of the base missions have the Built-Up Area rule?

What Spinner said. There are TONS of armiesf or this game. Id like to give few a try without needing to spend 41$ on a faction book then an additional 85$ on the rules itself. Ive played GW for many, many years and have moved to games where all the rules are in one book and its 20$ or under ( mostly free). Luckily, those like me have Russia to thank as they put them out on google in their entirety.

Moving on - Going to hopefully get to try a game out this Saturday on Orks vs Nids. The rules for tis look geat and I hope it keeps being developed

The built-up area rules applies to every mission. You would need to say in any homebrewed missions that the rule does not apply

You should be using at least twice as much terrain as you would for normal 40k to account for the way the rules are written/work with the models and terrain

Ah! Gotcha, the second part of that sentence ("in a game using this rule") made it seem like it would be a special rule noted in the mission descriptions. Am I right in assuming that the Drop Troops Regimental Tactics for Guard/Militarum provides an exception to that? It doesn't say anything specific, but it would seem odd if they couldn't use their special rule in any of the basic missions!

Also, can someone point me to where I can find the Orbital special rule? Not seeing it in the main rulebook or any of the Heralds of Ruin stuff, but I could just be being dumb.

Not sure on Orbital, just started getting back into it.

As for Kill Team, got to play it on Friday.

Did Orks vs Nids.

Was my first game back into 40k, since 5th edition I think. Its been awhile. We had the Posession mission with 5 counters across the battlefield.

I had a lot of Dakka and killed a good amount of nids, but all the Genestealers ended up winning out in many of the close combats slaying many orks.

The best moment was my nob charged in at the broodlord and managed to take him out! Lucky rolling on my part. Looking forward to playing this again soon

How's it going everyone! We have a few more armies added to our lists, and many armies have been revised, some completed.

Take a look and give them a try. Any feedback is appreciated.

Bumping for additional army lists added, and due to new "rules" being rumored

Played Necrons vs AM today. Possession. Did not use the optional Injury rules due to time constraints. Had fun, the rules are sound. Both of us got to make some reasonable tactical decisions. AM camped for a while till Necrons seized the tie-breaker relic (in this case, Titan crewmen). Then, AM got aggressive. Necrons down to 2 models, but Ld 10 kept hem in the game. AM's 10th loss was its Commander, which forced a last turn Bottle check, which it failed. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. Fun for all (well, both).

I play Necromunda, so this was a first time to play an individual model scale with post-4Kv2 rules. It worked, and has promise. Thanks!

We are doing a campaign right now at my store and it's awesome, I have personally discovered running a Deathwing army of all terminators and teleporters is quite a blast

To many unpainted models to count.

I played this for a bit, it isn't bad. Though the direction of the design crowd keeps pushing toward Necromunda and Necromunda is 100% better at being Necromunda.

Definitely fun with the mindset that it is zoomed-in 40k, as a skirmish system with minor campaign elements.
