Oh dear. Yes, me again, with yet another stupidly large terrain project. I'll finish the other two one day as well....

Still need to make some final decisions about the connecting walkways between buildings and the manufactorum block atop the central spire, but progress is progress...

I keep on forgetting to update this blog...

Still, slow but steady progress is being made - more is getting glued together, it's the finer detail as ever that takes so dratted long...

For those wanting more pictures, be careful what you ask for - here goes:

(NB, apologies for the 'bedroom scene' but I've run out of useable space in the man cave so had to relocate to take half decent pics! Obviously I still have an awful lot left to complete, and that's before I even consider paint... Skitarii figure shown for scale purposes...)

And one final one alongside another couple of neglected projects you might remember. I generally don't do small....

That's an awesome piece!

What are the pieces for this? I see bastions, Aegis line, manufactorum, and the landing pad, anything else?

So far it's 9 Bastions, approx 6 manufactora (4 full sets and some eBay wall purchases), an eBay skyshield (sans legs), some bits from Sanctum Imperialis kits, a central column from a drop pod and a load of the old movement trays. And some styrene rod. Mostly though it's a lot of time consuming fiddling around getting things to fit together!

A fruitful day today, various bits of assembly done but the main effort has been sorting out the join of the landing pad to the 'spur' buildings. Thankfully, things have turned out quite well, despite one bit of bad measurement resulting in cutting a piece 1mm short ( ) luckily I had a spare...

First off required removing the link to the usual side elements of the landing pad:

After sawing out the central block and sanding that smooth, found I also needed to remove about 1.5mm of the surround as well:

So that a cut down bastion deck plate can fit into the gap:

These plates, once lined up (and boy, getting that accurate on a build of this size has been a challenge!) will then sit on top of the bastion wall. Each of the bastion floor plates has half a hatch on one side - this fits neatly into the space where the floor 'grill' normally occupies:

I did contemplate filing the wall down so that all the floor plates would be level, but that was going to be a pain where things were already glued. But to be honest, the step up/down is not a huge issue:

So it's all coming together:

Still lots of fiddly stuff to do - need to work on filling the sides of the bridging plates, but the 'spare' landing pads sides should (hopefully) fit once cut down. However, this being a theoretical AOP board, there is one major issue:

The one main rule of AOP is that the board shouldn't take up a footprint of more than 2'x2', and quite obviously the landing pad overhangs two edges by a good 2.5"... Now I've seen boards where there has been some overhang so hopefully if and when I ever finish it (and an army to go on it!) I might get away with it. However, if not, I plan to make it so that the landing pad element can be removed:

And have alternate end walls so that if doesn't look half finished... Ah the 'fun' I put myself through!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Sadly, Master of Asgard, I imagine there would be some that would complain about rules infringement (and to be fair it's quite a big infringement!) so always best to be prepared. Anyway, I'm really doing this for myself rather than a competition, so in the end I'll still be happy either way!

Anyhow, some progress on 'bridging the gaps':

First take one of the unused small edges to the landing pad, and cut the middle section out (and the two tiny end 'lips'

Then in order to fit the edge of the pad itself had to cut a bit off the edge of the bottom mounting bracket:

Similarly, the internal decoration piece needed to be trimmed down so it would sit on top of the plate:

And how it'll appear in situ (having also cut down the end of the bastion wall to fit snugly):

As with all my terrain builds, the majority of my time is spent doing tiny, fiddly and frustrating alterations to pieces, but hopefully the attention to detail will pay off in the end (whenever THAT might be!) Now, on with the other three...

Wow. That's a LOT of fiddly work. But I can see it paying off when everything comes together seamlessly once the paint is applied. Very impressed with the amount of work put into this.
