The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Personally, I am very unsure about this. Or perhaps I am just very sure I don't like what I see. Looks like it could be a great fantasy movie, but a horrible version of the Arthurian legend.
Still haven't seen anything that comes close to Boorman's Excalibur.

I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

Totally this, I think anyone thinking of making an Arthur movie should first sit down and watch Excalibur, this in theory should stop about 95% of sub-par efforts, with the remaining 5% either topping Boorman or being so bad they are fun like First Knight
Camelot the telly show was kind of interesting, but suffered from UK budgetitis

Yeah...I don't agree with that. Excalibur never did it for me. It's a weird film that just feels 'off', not weird in a charming or interesting way. Awkward, maybe?

Yes, it's a very awkward movie. It feels like it should be great but it has no energy. It takes liberties and risks with its sets and costumes but then remains shackled to retelling the legend out of a children's storybook. And using Wagner for the score, rather than maybe hiring Queen or Toto or whoever to do an original soundtrack, was really out of proportion with how everything else was basically goofy.
Oh I can see the monks at Glastonbury turning in their graves over this one. You going straight to hell for this, or maybe not as they made the whole buried at the tor story up anyhow.
Getting back on track it looks like a film that you can just switch off and watch with a cold ale. Not one for fact that's for sure lol

Trevor Jones did the score for Excalibur aside from a few bits that featured Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and some Wagner but the majority of it was new. I agree with you that it wasn't anything special or great, well aside from Orff's Carmina Burana, who doesn't like that?
I can see the points about Excalibur, and how it might be an acquired taste, but its kind of endearingly bonkers and makes no excuses for itself about being anything other the telling of a Legend. (Clive Owen and Co I'm looking at you, well mostly Keira in paint and string but you get the point)

I wish Excalibur really had made no excuses. But it was only halfway bonkers. Where it is less restrained, it is best. I will say that it has a romantic tone that is altogether, and tragically, missing in contemporary films.
Excalibur is one of my top 10 all time favourite movies.
Yeah, the armour might be a bit dodgy at times, and Patrick Stewart might chew scenary at times , but Merlin has to be the best portrayl of Merlin I have ever seen.
And of course, the young Helen Mirren

The armour is fine, considering the Arthurian legend is a mish-mash collection of pre-roman legends coupled with some sub-Roman British ephemera filtered through a history written in the 12th century, co-opted by a 14th century king for social/political purposes, filtered again through victorian and modern perceptions such as T H White.

It definitely looks that... I just wonder if we're gonna get the 800 story lines converging at one time montage from this Ritchie film as we have in some of his other famous works?

Careful seems like this cheeky Mod is trying to force learning on us ! And anyway the armor, considering budget and the time the film was made is awesome, sure beats the Dark Age Biker Leathers that everyone from Beowulf to the Muskateers is sporting in more modern tales of ye long ago

It's more to do with the fact that everybody looks like they're about to keel over at any minute

WTF did I just watch? Even the trailer had massive and weird tonal shifts and change the scope and scale of the film from tight and low key to epic level. This is going to be a mess of a film!
It looks like Sherlock Homes and LoTR had hot monkey love and this version of King Arthur was the offspring! It looks like the cinematic version of puppymonkeybaby.
Weird.

I guess something to keep in mind is that the person hired to edit the trailer is often brought on and managed by the people marketing the film and a lot of films with novel styles or ideas are really a puzzle to the marketing people.

Also there is one guy who I hope is careful when putting on his helmet. Otherwise he might lose his hands.

Yeah, the armour is a tad silly at times, and the fight scenes with people hacking lumps out of each other with 2 ton battle axes are comedic at times, but still a wonderfully atmospheric film to watch that does the legend justice, and one of my all time favourites...

That trailer is far more even in tone than the first one, but it doesn't feel as much like a Guy Ritchie film, now.
Ah well, I'm probably going to see it anyway.

Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)
Its sad it's going to bomb so bad. Because it's got the talent in it to be good and actually looks decent. But that never stops medieval action movies from bombing.
