Hey, not really sure what section to put this in but where do people get there 6 x 4 for wargaming? Do you buy a full table solely for this purpose or do you buy a board that fits on top of a regular table? Which ones do people usually purchase?

I bought 2 plastic 6 foot (by 2.5 foot) folding tables. Price wasn't too bad and you can store it when not in use. I use on of those giant mouse pad like FatMats for my board.

My gaming table consists of a folding 1800x750mm table (folds to 900x750mm). The board that sits on it is made up of 3 pieces of 1200x600 12mm mdf (painted both sides).
I've got a non-skid mat on the table to mostly prevent them sliding, and clips to hold them together.
It all packs away in my shed when not in use. Terrain for it goes into 55l rollaway tubs (with lids) that also go into the shed.

My group's first table was three table tops from IKEA next to each other, and flocked. Now though, we just get mats and a board piece of wood big enough to lay it flat on. Those mousemat-material mats have really made making a good table easy as pie.

I’ve got a 4x8 that I picked up for free when a FLGS went out of business. It was scratch built out of lumber; not a hard thing to do with some simple tools.
If you have the space, building your own is a decent option.

If you dont wanna buy a whole new table, do what me and the college boys do when we play beer pong, we just lay a large piece of plywood over the table that fiits the need, then remove it when we dont need it. just dont lean on the table.

To many unpainted models to count. |

I ended up getting the Citadel Realm of Battle Board set back before the GW price increase, and at 25% off RRP from Darksphere. Skull pits filled in and sculpted with Milliput. I rather like it.
I tend to use it for historical games these days after re-painting and flocking it from my original blasted wasteland.
I'm tempted to pick up some of the mouse mat material gaming mats. I've seen and used them at my local club and they are wonderful to play on. The only real disadvantage is lack of elevation unless you specifically make terrain and do your best to match it to the mat image

I have a pair of folding tables I lay out my Secret Weapon tablescapes on. Not a huge fan of the mousemat dealies since computer generated textures don't mesh as well with the look of hand painted models as moulded or flocked hand-painted boards do.

I also went with a couple folding tables. I put those interlocking foam tiles (anti-fatigue tiles?) on the table after to make sure the join line doesn't show up in my drop cloth.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I tend to go for a plywood sheet over some supports. Next attempt will likely be a 4x4 over a couple of old kitchen carcasses.

Sorry PLC, but wherever you bought the materials for that table, they told you wrong; that's not pine you used.
You obviously were sold several lengths of awesome and a sheet of wow, and probably a gallon of win for the finish.
