If you take a Scarecrow, put on either
--dual Clingfire sprayers or
--a Clingfire sprayer and a Chemtek sprayer (which I like better)

And choose Overdrive instead of Rapid Fire, you have a 5 point 'bot. You can take a pair for 10, and while you lose the Railrifle, you gain two cheap units that can rush the enemy and force your opponent to make a choice. They are good for contesting objectives, and the "ignore cover" aspect of their attack means that your target priority decisions become a bit easier.

This is cheapest way that the Epirians can get a flamethrower unit. It's not the fastest unit out there, but the initial Overdrive push, plus the open ground move bonus, means that you're getting 13 to 17 inches of movement (or more, depending on how many command points you spend) to grab an objective or deny an area to the enemy (or both).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the dual Clingfire sprayer setup is a bit lackluster (only +1 shot). Am I playing this wrong?

Has anyone else run Scarecrows in this way?

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I haven't run scarecrows this way - they're my favourite unit on the Epirian side, and I use them for sniping away at things, but this might be worth a go for springing a surprise on somebody.

As fantastic as ME is, my two opponents pretty much know what to expect as there is only two armies to date. So yeah, this could be worth a go.

Oh, I know, those are GREAT, but they come with the additional squad. I like this loadout because I can get them cheap!
