I'm curious to know if this slow, entirely non shooting list has the durability to stick around for a whole game and, if used well, win via objective scoring. It uses the daemonic incursion formation for objective corruption, warp storm mitigation and a feel no pain bubble from one of the heralds. Each herald joins one of the larger plaguebearer units, the herald from the tallyband gives a feel no pain bubble to other plaguebearers and nurglings within 12"

Command GUO level 3, plague flail, balesword, greater reward (290)

Command GUO level 1, plague flail, balesword (220)

Tallyband
Herald, greater etherblade, locus of FnP
15 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
15 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
10 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
10 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
10 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
3 Nurglings
3 Nurglings (795)

Rot Swarm
Herald, greater etherblade, locus of FnP
3 Plague Drones with plaguebringer, etherblade
Beast of Nurgle
Beast of Nurgle
Beast of Nurgle

Beast of Nurgle
Beast of Nurgle (543)

Being mono nurgle everything has shrouding and slow and purposeful, but the beasts and drones are a bit faster than everything else so could potentially hold units in combat until the rest of the army moves in. The idea is the plaguebearers can screen the great unclean ones for 3+ cover saves, and at least the unit screening the more expensive GUO will be within the FnP bubble of the first herald, so removing them shouldn't be too easy.

The level 3 GUO rolls all three powers on biomancy, the other I haven't decided yet but the new nurgle table seems solid enough.

Lots of etherblades for AP2, lots of plagueswords for glancing vehicles and poisoned attacks

No armour saves at all so grav spam and low AP weapons are wasted. Ignores cover shooting is effective but everything still has invulnerables.

The intention is to build an effective list that can win games, but allows the opponent to play their own game so isn't too frustrating to face (shooting armies can go to town, CC armies will have all the CC they want)

Any feedback is appreciated- this type of army will play unlike anything I've used before so don't be afraid to point out the obvious. Thanks!

Interesting idea. GUO's are hard as nails but absolutely too slow to be anything but road blocks. Swap them both for kitted Nurgle Princes and you're off to a much more functional start that sticks with the theme. After that I'd trim down the plague bearers replacing them with Nurglings and beefing up the Drone unit to mid tier death star status. That way you have at least 3 mobile, credible assault threats that have to be dealt with while retaining a strong and durable MSU presence.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Quick sketch looks like this:

Tallyband:

Herald: ML2, Locus of Fecundity, Greater

7x Nurglings

Daemon Lords:

Nurgle Prince: ML3, Flight, Armor, 2x Greater, 1x Lesser

Nurgle Prince: ML3, Flight, Armor, 2x Greater, 1x Lesser, Grotti the Nurgling

Rotswarm:

Herald: ML2, Greater

5x Plague Drones: Rot Proboscis

6x individual Beasts

A lot less bodies but way more punch

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Grotti upgrade can go on either Prince or on to a Herald depending on where you want it. Either way it pairs well with the tallyband toughness modifier, just be wary of instabity.

That's a good list, far more fast elements and winged nurgle princes are great units. I'm pretty attached to the plaguebearers though, the main inspiration for the army was a shuffling horde of plaguebearers, and I despise converting so I'm not keen on grafting wings onto a prince

How about the following to maintain the theme but put more points into fast elements:

Command GUO level 3, plague flail, balesword, greater reward (290)

Tallyband
Herald, greater etherblade, locus of FnP
20 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
15 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
15 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
10 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
3 Nurglings
3 Nurglings
3 Nurglings (825)

Rot Swarm
Herald, greater etherblade, locus of FnP
3 Plague Drones with plaguebringer, etherblade
3 Plague Drones with plaguebringer, etherblade
3 Plague Drones with plaguebringer, etherblade
Beast of Nurgle
Beast of Nurgle
Beast of Nurgle
Beast of Nurgle (721)

1836

So no second GUO, same number of plaguebearers, more nurglings and three units of plague drones now. It's not really close to the list you suggested but there's more investment in fast units. A bit more better?

Thanks for the input, it's appreciated

If you absolutely must have PBs, that's fine I guess.

You really need a 7-Drone unit. it's fluffy, hard to kill and can do damage as well. The bonus to the Rot swarm applies to 1 unit, so make a unit that counts. Icons wouldn't hurt in some units either
Here's a rough layout of what the list should look like:

Command GUO level 3, plague flail, balesword, greater reward

Tallyband
Herald, greater etherblade, locus of FnP
20 Plaguebearers with Icon, plagueridden, etherblade
15 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
15 Plaguebearers with plagueridden, etherblade
4x 3 Nurglings

Rot Swarm
Herald, greater etherblade, locus of FnP
7 Plague Drones with Icnon, plaguebringer, etherblade
6x 1 Beast of Nurgle

I didn't really rough out the points, but this gives you plenty of fast units, your PB horde and a Death Star. The icons give you the option to Deep Strike the GUO if needed to get him close.
At least 1 Herald stays with the Drones and they can "conga-line" him into combat (this is the another reason you need a bigger Drone unit)

Ah... I'm seeing the wisdom now. Pack a bunch of drones into one unit to benefit from the dubious command power... 3 extra attacks each and re-roll charges if the herald (within 12") passes a leadership. Nice.

I'm liking that list a lot. It's a shame you can't stick the herald on a drone but I can't complain, the formation benefits are incredible and really help out a fluffy army composition on the table

Cheers guys, much appreciated

Hey man, I have been running this list and so far it is unbeaten.

I tabled my friend's Space Wolves in turn 6 and managed to finally beat the Necron player in my group using this list.

Edit it as you will, The point of it is the synergy between the heralds and the GUO. Heralds casting cursed earth and summoning. The exalted herald uses the grimmoir.

I send one great unclean on the middle. And deep strike two units of plagebearers and the other great unclean to the back table. It is a very tough list to contend with when you add in summoning. I summon blood letters and more PB. I summoned a blood thirster once.

Yeah it would be nice to have the Herald on a Drone, but at least he doesn't slow the Drones down too much, other than needing to stay in coherency with them.
In most lists that I have seen like this, BOTH heralds join the Drones and get "sling shot" into combat.
But in those lists the Tallyband is all Nurglings, so there isn't a need for both Heralds to have the FNP locus.

Speaking of, here is food for thought. The bonus to these formations is that that can benefit from multiple Loci, so if both Heralds are with the Drones, the Drones can get 2 Loci
For your list it makes sense to have FNP on the PB horde, but it you even want a true Drone Deathstar, there you go

Multiple loci benefits would be nice, but like you say I've got a need for both of those FnP bubbles. It would be fun to try out a real drone deathstar at some point anyway. Maybe in a small one off game if I'm forced to use a CAD

Very cool list, is that 1850 or 2000 points?

I'm curious to know how all parts of the list have worked out for you so far. Do you use biomancy on the GUO's? How do you rate their general impact on games? It seems to me like a unit that will usually not make its points back, but there must be a lot of value in having something the opponent is actively trying to keep away from as far as the mission objectives go. I'm keen to try out myself though, the last time I fielded a GUO it was the 3rd edition version that was T5 and cost 80 points. Apart from the head the model hasn't changed

Given I only have one psyker (the GUO) would you recommend one roll on daemonology for summoning and then the next two on biomancy? Initially when I had two in the list I was considering giving the other one the daemonology primaris but now that isn't an option it might be worth a summoning power to guarantee a power worth casting on T1. Of course I could give a power level to one of the heralds instead

Do opponents even bother trying to double out the nurglings? I often see swarms criticised for being easy to instant death, but it's hard to imagine the opponent not having better things to do with their stronger weapons, especially if those nurglings are shrouded in cover

EDIT: I've just realised how effective the Doomsday Bell can be with the tallyband's enfeebling nausea... I'm having one

First of all, I'm not a tournament player but I prefer cast Endurance on the Drones, FnP 4+ and EW is better than only FnP 5+

I understand that this list you are building is mono nurgle, which I have run and is super fun, but I wanted to share a better version imho (if you decide to try other than mono nurgle)

I have been using a warpflame host as the core with kairos then the drone star with 6 single beasts. Tons of shooting. Fast units with shrouded and scoring. summoning of more units with the dice load and of course rerolls on the chart AND + or - 1!

Great Uncleans ones have a bad rep because they are slow, I biomancy them with iron arm and march one up the middle and deep strike the others, they are threats that cannot be ignored!

One Psyker is a bit redundant, I would drop the drones to get more heralds into the list with psyker, I use 14 in a game and it's a respectable amount. I only buff and summon. Armies becomes a tough swarm army then.

I literally only use them for the troop choice for extra heralds but I find them fantastic for dropping on back field objectives. They become a problem when the opponent wants the objective they are on. I've had cases where they have bought me 3 turns to get reinforcements.

The doomsday bell is fantastic! I combine it with grotti the nurgling which gives -1t to all non nurgle deamons around within 6 inch. If they fail enfeebling nausea they are down by 2 toughness! Plaguebearers really kick ass then.

In one game I had a great unclean with 10 toughness, 2 + invul that he could reroll and a feel no pain 4 plus. Opponent didn't even bother trying to fight him but I charged him up the right flank and decimated several units with him.

GUO are fantastic never doubt it.
