Hi there!

I'd love to share some preview images of a WW2 US Rifleman set we're working on. I'm with a new group called BugBear Miniatures and at the moment we're focusing on what we see as a lack of options for high quality 28mm WW2 figures for wargaming. We're planning on taking these to Kickstarter but we're also very much open to collaborating with any manufacturers that are interested.

Note: These images are computer render previews.

If previews of yet to be manufactured miniatures are frowned upon in the news section then don't hesitate to delete this post!

Cheers!

Those do look nice- give off a bit of the retro plastic army man grocery store vibe, most likely due to the coloring and package style.

Figures themselves look nice and thick. Almost too chunky for 28mm. Makes me think closer to 30-32mm, but then again, what do I know?

Will be keeping an eye out for these. What material do you see yourselves casting them in? Metal? Resin? Both?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

These DO look rather nice.

Will there be more variation in equipment and heads?

Also wondering about material.

Yeah, material is the big question... The renders look lovely, but it's how they translate into actual miniatures that counts.

Fantastic looking renders! I love the proportions of the figures as they have a good deal of realism without looking too spindly on the tabletop.

Hopefully you find a good method of producing them, the bulk of the models seems to lend them nicely to resin casting so I wish you the best of luck getting them produced!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Yes we've tried to go for a more exciting overall style than your typical historical figures but not too far to the giant head heroscale side of things either.

Separate heads are planned. Hoping to add some variety to equipment, grenades, pistols etc.

We're talking to a few options regarding producing them and resin seems to be the logical choice considering the sharp detail we want and the single piece posing of the figures. What we'd like to ask you guys is who are your favorite companies when it comes to quality and or affordable resin miniatures?

Those models look great, or the potential of them i should say. Im def going to follow were you guys go with this.

From a model company point of view, there a several i have brought models from recently that really knock things up a few gears when it comes to detail of the models and the quality of the final product.

1) anvil industries. They have some real nice designs but it the detail that is amazing with those models. Even the very small models have a great quality to them without losing detail and are still really robust.

2) Kromlech. I have recently purchased there alternatives to gamesworkshops space wolves. By looks alone on their websites really dont do the sculpts justice. I got them on a punt hoping i would be good taking the risk. When they arrived i was blown away. The level of clean clear detail is superb. Even once i undercoated and painted the pieces there was no loss of detail or definition.

They are two companies im really impressed with currently. There are a few other companies that make good stuff but those stand above the rest for me atleast. Some companies can do great models/whole figures etc but those guys can also do smaller bits like hands and customizable small bits and still keep the same level of quality.

I would have to agree that Anvil Industries have some of the best resin casts I have ever come across. They also work exclusively with digital sculpts now so any tips you could get from the would help a lot!

They look great.. but since you did the renders in green, I'm afraid I must insist you make them out of green resin now.

Quite like them, the chunky weapons in particular are IMHO great, look a whole lot sturdier than the Warlord plastics I did away with not too long ago.

Fantastic look. My only fear is if they are too big they wont scale well with the tanks an such for games I would like to use them in for bolt action, or that in order to use them I will have to get a whole different scale of tank to fit them in. Something to consider. Man are they cool. Necros could be on to something. Casting them in colored resin may cost a tad bit more but you might tap into a green vs brown type niche like old school army men, already indicated buy your boxed art. I will pay very close attention to these. Please keep us update if or when you go to kickstarter.

If they are chunky then they will scale well with 1:48th scale kits of which there are loads of cheap options

I appreciate how chunky they are actually, it's kind of a "heroic scale" sort of aesthetic. I also absolutely love the rendered packaging; I'm used to very functional and bland packaging for miniatures that I get excited when I see something novel like that.

Absolutely fantastic. I love the poses as it brigs a more pulpy feel to them, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I love the box too. They have to come in something like that!

Need some grenades hanging off their suspenders and maybe a hole on the back of their doughboy packs so a lil brass rod can be added for the handle of the entrenching tool

That's what I was thinking too!

Love the look so far, can't wait for more details!

EDIT:

Love your company's name too!

Hey thanks for all the encouraging feedback guys!

I'd love to cast them in green as long as it wouldn't affect painting? Grey germans, tan brits....maroon russians?

Anvil Industries look solid! Thanks for the tip.

Glad you guys like the packaging Hopefully similar themes could be carried over to other nations if successful.

We've gone for a chunkier style to give them a more grounded, well balanced and solid presence than your typical historical miniatures, but there overall size/height won't be much different than current lines so your vehicles should be okay. And on the tabletop I don't think our minis will look overly exaggerated like certain heroic scale games. Of course test prints will confirm or disprove all this!

Very nice stuff. Love it. PuppetsWar does very nice quality casting as well, but they are based on Poland, so might not meet your geographical requirements.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

These are really nice, although the poses are a tad samey, would be nice to see one or two either fully kneeling, or in a more upright braced aiming pose. I do love the actiony poses though, the model in the rotating pic of the Thompson SMG is crying out for a head with a Sergeant helmet, and a facial expression that's grimacing around a big ol' cigar held in the teeth

As with all renders though, I'm struggling a tad with the scale - are the fake bases supposed to be 25mm or 30mm?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

They look really good, but honestly after that title and the name of your company I'm SUPER disappointed that they aren't actually bugbears wearing GI uniforms :(

Hey guys, I'm working on nailing down the final scale for the Troopers and would like your input if you don't mind I've attached a .gif that cycles through a few sizes. I'm going to be measuring the scale based off his neutral standing pose for consistency across all poses. Interestingly I have to bring his standing height up to 34mm for the posed figure to match the height of a Warlord Bolt Action mini. Although got to keep in mind my figures are in lower crouching poses generally. If the Bolt Action figure and Space Marine were standing straight I'm guessing they'd be 30.5mm and 33mm respectively. So yeah, kinda tricky but I'm thinking 32mm standing height? Just worried that if I do make some Troopers that are basically standing straight they'll be taller than your standard marine! And at 30mm he's quite small when posed next to the BA figure. Also I think this side by side comparison might help alleviate fears of the troopers being overly big/chunky. Any thoughts?

(Does anyone know if the basic plastic US infantry from Warlord are indicative of all their figure heights? And if the Marines from the Battle for Macragge set are the same height as the multi-part Marines?)

P.S. Should I move this thread to another section?

I like the 32mm. 34mm is probably a bit too big.

Yeah, 32 looks about right.

The BfM Marines are fractionally smaller than the regular models, IIRC, but not enough to alter the result there.

Great looking models. They seem pretty heroic compared to standard historical figures, but that's fine. The resin suggestion makes me think they'll be a bit too highly priced for me to go with, though.

As for sizing, probably 32mm, but 34mm looks good as well, especially if they're mostly crouched.
