Considering the lack of attention that the Sisters get, I was interested in putting together a fun little list. I have absolutely no illusions about this list being effective in tournaments or even winning in casual play. I just got bored, but let me know if it's at least interesting.

So the basic plan is to have the Battle Sisters act as a gun line from cover. Each of the Priests will go with a Repentia Squad, doubling up with the Cannoness. The Penitent Engine Squadrons will act as a screen for the Repentias and we hoof it into assault range. I know they'll all probably get shot to pieces before they make it, I just kind of want to see the look on someone's face when I deploy my army.

Hmm... Thoughts?

Repentia are lethal as all hell. But be very, very sure you want to attach the preacher as it's going to cost you Fleet!

A priest is a good buy for a unit being held back as a counter-assault unit, or one that's got an assault transport from somewhere, but less so for a footslogger.

The battle sister gunlines are....okay. I wouldn't die in a ditch over a simulacrum; with a small squad, Light of the Emperor isn't going to do too much, so spending points on getting to do it twice isn't so amazing.

The penitent engines should be impressive. Yes, they're incredibly fragile and will be shot to hell, but they're cheap and if one or two make it your opponent will damn well know about it!

I dunno. The massed loony charge has its moments, but I'd suggest that providing them with some more cover (small squad in rhino?) or fire support (retributors/exorcist) with two of each assault unit is more likely to have someone actually reach the enemy than three units with no support.

Wow man, I had completely forgotten about losing fleet! Thanks for that.

I'm beginning to agree with you, in that taking some troops in transports in place of a few Pen Engines will be more effective.

Thanks for the feedback.

you're welcome.

If I dropped anything, It'd probably be repentia rather than penitent engines.

As I say; don't let me put you off repentia with a priest being a good unit. They're nothing short of devastating - packing twice the punch of a terminator assault squad with thunder hammers for less than the price of a normal assault squad with chainswords.

Their downside is that they really, really can't make it across open ground into a line of troops with rapid-fire weapons.

Which is why, as I say, they make a great 'second strike' unit - hiding behind cover and counter-charging enemy assault units (who have conveniently wandered over to charge range, and who - if they're already engaged - won't be firing overwatch).

That's less useful in an army designed to advance en masse, though - so stripping off the priests not only speeds up the repentia by letting them reroll run and charge moves, but saves quite a few points (especially since you've bought them eviscerators - does a repentia unit really need more chainfist attacks?) that can practically buy an extra battle sister squad by themselves.

It does cost you hatred - but you're still fearless, and since you wound most foes on 2+, and most of your durability comes from Spirit of the Martyr, War Hymns don't actually add much to the squad (not compared to the effect reroll armour saves can have on a power-armoured celestian squad, for example).
