Hi all.
So tinkering away with what to buy next after the betrayal box, I have come up with this static, but heavy hitting army.
I have not been playing for many years so I do not know what is good or not.
The idea is that the Devestators enter the fortified terrain that the techmarines make. Then shoot stuff and be Yellow.

Vs. light troops and horde armies, you will blow them off the table. Against anything moderately mechanized, you are going to be spending a lot of time bouncing light fire off of armor plates.
You have two AV units. The Cents (who have the captain tanking I assume) and the bikes, who can probably stop something with the grav.
Things I’d suggest:
For your tac squads, you might want to get razorbacks. Or bump them up to 10 men. These are your go out and grab objective guys, and 5 power armored bodies are not as sturdy as we’d like. Might also be a place to get a little melta in.
I’d swap at least one of the dev squads to LCs. I’m fond of HBs myself, but you need AV. and these guys are really good place for it.
TFCs are good at what they do, but how much of that do you need? Especially when bringing HB devs to the table? I might drop one for points for upgrades elsewhere.

I changed one of the rhino squad into a Drop Podding melta squad. Captain goes in that one to give the multi melta relentless so I can fire off 3 meltas turn 1. Other than that. I just boosted the Tac Squads with 2 members each.

I believe your capt points are off. should be 150pts for what you have on him. and id take a TH over the Relic blade. hitting at init 5 is nice but its only str6 AP3.

Yeah, I was off. I get it to 145 poins though. Hmm what to cut...
I like the Thunder Hammer but it is quite expenisive and the Captain is really expensive as is. If I where to squeeze in a hammer on him. What do you think I should cut?

Your drop pod needs to be at the full 10 men to take both a special and a heavy weapon.
If you need to shave points, you can drop some of the extra bodies from the tac/dev squads. Melta bombs are also an easy cut.

I do think the second list would play better.
Back to the first list:
If you are choosing between either the heavy or the special in a tac squad, you should default to the special. They spend a lot of time on the move, so the heavy gets snap fired a lot. While the old school Ultramarine in me compels me to take both in a 10 man squad, you don’t need to. But that melta squad stepping out of the pod to pop a tank would be much better served with two shots at full accuracy, rather then one good, one snap. The extra range is not an issue when you drop down from orbit to where you need to be.

Thanks. The reason I took out the Special is because the Squad have relentless due to the Cataphracii Captain.
Hmm, the second list will play better you say. I'm leaning a bit toward it myself to be fair.

Have you considered going Imp Fists with a tonne of Sternguard?
Combi-Bolters maxed out on them and Bolter Drill would make them pretty nasty!

Sweet, but to put in some Sternguards in the Sternhammer and benefit from reroll all misses I need to take the formation, dont I? Also, is there a way to squeeze in Pedro Khantor in there somewhere to give them objective secured?

While the superior bolter drill is extra nice, even the re-roll ones basic drill you get from the IF CT is pretty sweet. As an Ultramarine I have to pop a doctrine to get that, and love the results. You get it all the time.
I don’t think there is a way to get Kantor into the Sternhammer. An oversight unfortunately.
One thing to note about his ObSec rule is that it applies to sternguard taken in his detachment. So if you took him in a CAD (with some minimal troops tax) and then a 1st co. TF, it would not apply, as the formation would be a seperate detachment. He can be taken in a gladius though. So if you ran that, both he and the 1st co would be part of the same detachment.

One other fun "unit" to try out, that I have found really effect with Imperial Fists chapter tactis, is: Devastator Squad (8) - heavy bolter x4, drop pod + Captain - cataphractii terminator armor, the primarch's wrath He joins the devs in the pod and drops down raining absolute death with 17 AP4 bolter shots, some of which are S5.. plus the regular bolters... yeah. No snapshots either so they can land and fire to full effect, and move next turn and still fire because of being slow and purposeful (thanks cat term armor!) I like using this as a really nice cleanup crew pod. it wipes infantry units off the board and is pretty creative IMO Try it out, it's a blast!

That seems like a nice, fun and cheap unit. It needs to be tried out.

It’s very all-in. Not that’s a issue, but more of a playstyle choice. You will win or loose on the first turn with this list. There is not a lot of wiggle room. You crush them on the drop, and spend the rest of the game doing mop up, or you drop into a meatginder and don’t have the bodies to fight your way out.
If you want to play a hyper aggressive drop list, you might want to look into the skyhammer annihilation force. (although I feel dirty even suggesting it)

Im more of, or trying to be more of an attrition player, or at least trying to be to switch things up since all I have played before is skirmishing lists. Tau and Eldar and in Warmachine/Hordes Legion of Everblight and Circle of Orboros.

Only one Thunderfire Cannon to bolster defence. Will put the Las Cannon Devestators in a bolserd terrain to give them 3+ Cover. Hopefully it will help with their staying power.
The Captainn will Drop Pod in with the grav to unleash 9 rerollable grav shots turn + 2 Plasma shots 1 due to Tactical Doctrine.
Also I have 8 Tank hunting Las Cannons shots ans 24 rerollable s5 Tank Hunting shots a turn as well as 10 quasi rerollable Plasma shots and a total of 18 Grav shots. Good times.
